Download or read book The Earth Policy Reader written by Lester R. Brown and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, the award-winning environmental analyst Lester Brown and his colleagues have charted progress in building the eco-economy - an economy in harmony with the Earth's ecosystems, not undermining them. This edition of the biennial reader highlights 12 key trends, from population growing by 80 million annually, to ice melting, to the boom in use of solar cells. It explains, for example, why wind-generated electricity is emerging as the foundation of the new post-fossil fuel energy economy. It also specifically investigates China's desertification problem, the issues surrounding food production, and the challenge of controlling climate change. Drawing on research and analysis by the Earth Policy Institute, the reader monitors the shift from the old economy to the new.
Download or read book Germany and Denmark written by Nicholas Hill and published by Imray, Laurie, Norie and Wilson Ltd. This book was released on 2022-07-07 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation title is the successor to Brian Navin’s cruising guide to the area, covering the exposed North Sea coasts and the more protected Baltic Sea coasts of both Germany and Denmark. Coverage has been updated and expanded from specific routes to a comprehensive sequence of ports and anchorages along each area of coast, with introductory information about places of interest to visit ashore. Author Nicholas Hill cruised the region extensively for many years and has enriched the text with new photographs throughout. Plans include up to date hydrographic data for both German and Danish waters. This cruising guide is an ideal companion for those who plan to explore the more challenging, shifting coastline of the North Sea and the comparatively gentle and intricate indentations and archipelagos in the entrance to the Baltic. It is also a useful resource for anyone sailing on a more direct passage through to the Baltic Sea proper.

Download or read book 2012 13 update on indicators of the financial sustainability in the NHS written by Great Britain: National Audit Office and published by Stationery Office. This book was released on 2013-07-18 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This update finds that there was a surplus of £2.1 billion across the NHS as a whole in 2012-13, matching that in 2011-12. The financial performance of NHS trusts and foundation trusts should be considered in the context of a period of little to zero growth in funding for NHS services over the last two years and during a period of significant structural change across the NHS. Measured by the total surplus or deficit of hospital trusts, financial performance for the NHS appears stronger in 2012-13 than it did in 2011-12. However, there are signs of increasing pressure. As last year, there was a substantial gap between the trusts with the largest surpluses and those with the largest deficits. When primary care trusts (PCTs) and strategic health authorities are also included, there is a similar variation between local health economies. NHS trusts in difficulty rely on cash support from the Department of Health or non-recurrent local revenue support from strategic health authorities and primary care trusts but this is not a sustainable way of reconciling growing demand with the scale of efficiency gains required within the NHS. At the end of 2012-13, there were still 100 NHS trusts that had not achieved foundation trust status. The risk that NHS trusts will not maintain their planned trajectory to foundation trust status increased substantially in 2012-13. This is a period of major transition for the NHS, as clinical commissioning groups take over from strategic health authorities and PCTs the responsibility for commissioning health services.
