Book Vertebrate Paleontology in Utah

Download or read book Vertebrate Paleontology in Utah written by David D. Gillette and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 1999 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 52 papers in this vary in content from summaries or state-of-knowledge treatments, to detailed contributions that describe new species. Although the distinction is subtle, the title (Vertebrate Paleontology in Utah) indicates the science of paleontology in the state of Utah, rather than the even more ambitious intent if it were given the title “Vertebrate Paleontology of Utah” which would promise an encyclopedic treatment of the subject. The science of vertebrate paleontology in Utah is robust and intense. It has grown prodigiously in the past decade, and promises to continue to grow indefinitely. This research benefits everyone in the state, through Utah’s muse ums and educational institutions, which are the direct beneficiaries.

Book Stratigraphy and Paleontology of the Cloverly Formation Lower Cretaceous of the Bighorn Basin Area Wyoming and Montana

Download or read book Stratigraphy and Paleontology of the Cloverly Formation Lower Cretaceous of the Bighorn Basin Area Wyoming and Montana written by John H. Ostrom and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2020-03-17 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fiftieth anniversary edition of a landmark publication showcasing prehistoric North American landscapes and ecosystems, from a celebrated paleontologist at Yale University's Peabody Museum The fiftieth anniversary edition of John H. Ostrom's Stratigraphy and Paleontology of the Cloverly Formation revisits his groundbreaking work pinpointing the age of the continental sequence of the Bighorn Basin area in Wyoming and Montana. The Cloverly Formation is important for understanding the development of North American terrestrial landscapes and prehistoric ecosystems, and current investigations are reinterpreting the age of the Formation with new evidence and data. The reissue of Ostrom's original benchmark research offers contemporary relevance for researchers and students today.

Book Tertiary Frogs from Central Europe

Download or read book Tertiary Frogs from Central Europe written by Z.V. Spinar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remains of fossil frogs, elsewhere scarce, have been found abundantly for more than one hundred and twenty five years in the Tertiary deposits in northern and western Bohemia. In most cases they are imprints of complete skeletons or their parts poorly preserved in carbonaceous claystones, and difficult to interpret. A new locality of Tertiary diatomites that has been discovered in 1950 in northern Bohemia, not far from the town of DMin, is Bechlejovice. This locality yielded very interesting material: in addition to innumerable leaf imprints, frequent frog-remains were so excellently pre served that they made possible studies not only of skeletal parts but also outlines of muscles, organs, blood vessels, nerves, pigments, some cartilages, glands, etc. Up to now, numbers designating remains of adult individuals have totalled 1,100, besides 80 palaeobatrachid tadpoles. There were also found seven adult specimens and more than 60 tadpoles of pelobatids. Nor should be omitted other localities in Bohemia (see below) which furnished new material and thus much new information. Examinations made on the new finds necessitated revision of earlier collections deposited at the following Institutions: The Department of Palaeontology of Charles University, Prague; the National Museum in Prague; the State Museum for Mineralogy and Geology, Dresden; the Palaeontologic Institute and Museum of Humboldt University, Berlin (East Germany); the Institute for Geology and Palaeonto logy of Martin-Luther-Universitat, Halle-Wittenberg, DomstraBe 5, East Germany; the British Museum (Natural History), London.

Book At the Top of the Grand Staircase

Download or read book At the Top of the Grand Staircase written by Alan L. Titus and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2013-10-09 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is the location of one of the best-known terrestrial records for the late Cretaceous. Prior fieldwork confirmed the richness of the area, but a major effort begun in the new century has documented over 2,000 new vertebrate fossil sites, provided new radiometric dates, and identified five new genera of ceratopsids, two new species of hadrosaur, a probable new genus of hypsilophodontid, new pachycephalosaurs and ankylosaurs, several kinds of theropods (including a new genus of oviraptor and a new tyrannosaur), plus the most complete specimen of a Late Cretaceous therizinosaur ever collected from North America, and much more. The research documented in this book is rewriting our understanding of Late Cretaceous paleobiogeography and dinosaur phyletics. At the Top of the Grand Staircase: The Late Cretaceous of Southern Utah is a major stepping stone toward a total synthesis of the ecology and evolution of the Late Cretaceous ecosystems of western North America.
