Book excerpt: “Moving Forward arrives at a moment when inspiration, insight, and optimism are in short supply. Karine Jean-Pierre delivers all three in abundance.” —Stacey Abrams, author of Lead from the Outside “Karine Jean-Pierre illuminates her path to insider status so others can follow in her footsteps.”—Essence “Jean-Pierre inspires us to get involved in politics—every single one of us, no matter where we are from or who we are.”—The Atlantic Most political origin stories have the same backbone. A bright young person starts reading the Washington Post in elementary school. She skips school to see a presidential candidate. In middle school she canvasses door-to-door. The story can be intimidating. It reinforces the feeling that politics is a closed system: if you weren’t participating in debate club, the Young Democrats and Model UN you have no chance. Karine Jean-Pierre’s story breaks the mold. In Moving Forward, she tells how she got involved, showing how politics can be accessible to anyone, no matter their background. In today’s political climate, the need for all of us to participate has never been more crucial. This book is her call to arms for those who know that now is the time for us to act.

Book excerpt: About the Book: The U.S. legal system was built to address predictable health and environmental injuries, but it can seize up when health or environmental crises combine legally confounding fact patterns with huge humanitarian and financial stakes. Because these crises present serious societal challenges that affect large slices of America, however, they must be addressed--and resolved--in an open, fair, and equitable fashion. Looking Back to Move Forward: Resolving Health & Environmental Crises, released by the State Energy & Environmental Impact Center at the New York University School of Law, describes the tools that advocates, judges, legislators, and policymakers have applied to address and resolve--with varying levels of success--seven major health and environmental crises of our time. From Diethylstilbestrol to Dieselgate, the seven crises provide a rich source of insights that should inform and guide how the legal system responds to future health and environmental crises--including crises that already are on our doorstep, such as the opioid and climate crises. About the State Energy & Environmental Impact Center: The non-partisan State Energy & Environmental Impact Center supports state attorneys general in defending and promoting clean energy, climate, and environmental laws and policies. About the Editor: Hampden T. Macbeth is a Staff Attorney with the State Energy & Environmental Impact Center, New York University School of Law

Download or read book Move Forward with Dyslexia written by Sjan Verhoeven and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-06-23 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a self-help book for dyslexic (young) adults, but it is also beneficial for parents of dyslexic children and professionals who counsel dyslexics. That dyslexics have a big problem with language is often all too obvious. Language is a predominant given in our society and determines almost all of our interactions with each other. If someone is not so good at automating language, this frequently results in uncertainty and tension. That is exactly why, when dyslexics learn to read and write, they develop fear of failure in the form of performance drive or procrastination at a rather young age. "Move forward with dyslexia" has been written for and about adults with dyslexia. The authors take a stand against the belief that dyslexia is a disorder. Dyslexia is largely due to a different way of thinking, which is called conceptual thinking in this book. It is that way of thinking that forms the basis for being successful and developing your own way of working in your studies or at work. With your own way of working it is possible to read faster, write better, communicate clearer and build bridges between conceptual thinkers and linear thinkers. The book gives the reader an understanding of what dyslexia is, what causes fear of failure and how these two phenomena go hand in hand. When the fear of failure is reduced, dyslexics also have less problems with their dyslexia. By perceiving dyslexia differently, dyslexics will be able to better accept their dyslexia and build a positive self-image. A positive self-image provides space and freedom in life and is a good foundation for having success. The book provides many stories and examples from dyslexics themselves to illustrate the authors findings, the latest scientific insights and all kind of alternative strategies to work and live more efficiently. Dyslexic readers on the Dutch edition: "For me as a dyslexic a feast of recognition! This book has given me more understanding for both myself as for the non-dyslexic other." Security coordinator, 38 years. "This book is easy to read, analytical, but also practical, and above all very positive. It is solution oriented and gives a lot of tools to help my dyslexic son." A mother, 46 years. "Wow, this is a book I would like to have read years earlier!" Anonymous on internet. "The book has shaken me completely from head to toe. After reading I felt that my mind calmed down. If I had read this book 40 years before, I could have done my work with much less energy wastage." Entrepreneur, 66 years. "This is the only non dusty book about dyslexia." Student, 23 years. Dutch Magazine for Remedial Teaching: "Move forward with dyslexia! is in many ways not just another book on this subject, but provides a broader and different perspective on dyslexia and how to approach it. In ten chapters the book describes clearly how this approach can lead to dyslexics accepting their dyslexia more easily, preventing or reducing fear of failure and thus building a positive self-image. It explains how different work strategies can help and how they can be taught. The book is scientific in its approach, yet it is still easy to read and orientated towards solutions."

Download or read book Moving Forward written by Brig Sorber and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-05-03 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Moving Forward: A Stickman’s Journey for Hope and Meaning, Brig Sorber, one of the original movers (stickmen, if you will) of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, the largest moving franchise is North America, gives hope to those who feel they do not have the pedigree, diploma, or energy to move forward. Believing that wealth was the true key to happiness, Brig Sorber powered his way to financial success only to find it an empty and shapeless place. After a heavy bout of despair, Brig turned to his faith which had been shelved like a dusty old book. He sensed God asking him, “are you interested in a new approach?” Having nothing to lose, he gave his life to Christ and, in doing so, gave Him the business as well. Over time, Brig realized that he (like everyone) is greatly loved by God. In Moving Forward, Brig gives us an inside look into his very average life as God unearths truth, knowledge, and lessons from a past full of hurt and pain. Drawing from biblical principles and past mistakes and hardships, Brig shows us that we can stop believing the lies others tell us—and the lies we tell ourselves—that we are not worthy or capable of a more meaningful life. Instead, we all have the ability to move forward and make something great of our lives—if we are willing to trust in God’s direction and use the specific talents he has given to each of us.

It allows you to maintain your pace, without being lured away by various temptations of life. Similarly, the willingness to move on helps you to explore new opportunities where others see problems. Download or read book Facilitating Breakthrough written by Adam Kahane and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2021-08-31 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Making progress on complex, problematic situations requires a new approach to working together: transformative facilitation, a structured and creative process for removing the obstacles to fluid forward movement. It is becoming less straightforward for people to move forward together. They face increasing complexity and decreasing control. They need to work with more people from across more divides. In such situations, the most common ways of advancing—some people telling others what to do, or everyone just doing what they think they need to—aren't adequate. One better way is through facilitating. But the most common approaches to facilitating—bossy vertical directing from above or collegial horizontal accompanying from alongside—aren't adequate. They often leave the participants frustrated and yearning for breakthrough. This book describes a new approach: transformative facilitation. It doesn't choose either the bossy vertical or the collegial horizontal approach: it cycles back and forth between them. Rather than forcing or cajoling, the facilitator removes the obstacles that stand in the way of people contributing and connecting equitably. It enables people to bring their whole selves to the process. This book is for anyone who helps people work together to transform their situation, be it a professional facilitator, manager, consultant, coach, chairperson, organizer, mediator, stakeholder, or friend. It offers a broad and bold vision of the contribution that facilitation can make to helping people collaborate to make progress.
