Book Forever Young

Download or read book Forever Young written by Hayley Mills and published by Grand Central Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iconic actress Hayley Mills shares personal memories from her storied childhood, growing up in a famous acting family and becoming a Disney child star, trying to grow up in a world that wanted her to stay forever young. The daughter of acclaimed British actor Sir John Mills was still a preteen when she began her acting career and was quickly thrust into the spotlight. Under the wing of Walt Disney himself, Hayley Mills was transformed into one of the biggest child starlets of the 1960s through her iconic roles in Pollyanna, The Parent Trap, and many more. She became one of only twelve actors in history to be bestowed with the Academy Juvenile Award, presented at the Oscars by its first recipient, Shirley Temple, and went on to win a number of awards including a Golden Globe, multiple BAFTAs, and a Disney Legacy Award. Now, in her charming and forthright memoir, she provides a unique window into when Hollywood was still 'Tinseltown' and the great Walt Disney was at his zenith, ruling over what was (at least in his own head) still a family business. This behind-the-scenes look at the drama of having a sky-rocketing career as a young teen in an esteemed acting family will offer both her childhood impressions of the wild and glamorous world she was swept into, and the wisdom and broader knowledge that time has given her. Hayley will delve intimately into her relationship with Walt Disney, as well as the emotional challenges of being bound to a wholesome, youthful public image as she grew into her later teen years, and how that impacted her and her choices--including marrying a producer over 30 years her senior when she was 20! With her regrets, her joys, her difficulties, and her triumphs, this is a compelling read for any fan of classic Disney films and an inside look at a piece of real Hollywood history.

Book Truth Will Last Forever

Download or read book Truth Will Last Forever written by A.M. Masset and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All the signs were there. Gaps in my childhood memory, toxic adult relationships and addictions. I had a good job, money in the bank but I was not happy. I felt stuck and I did not know what to do to break free. Something is seriously wrong with me and I needed to know the truth. A quest for answers led me to write down the flashes that kept haunting me. When I tried to verify some details with my mother, she stone walled me. I knew there was more to it and I became determined to see this through. Turning my life around resulted in selling the house and moving overseas. The space I created allowed me to sit down and put pen to paper. While writing down deep dark repressed memories more details slowly flooded back in. I started to make sense of the retrieved information, but the answers I was looking for had presented a new challenge. I lived to tell the story. I owe them that much.

Many of the ideas have been from the human world itself, with an open window to look at society differently or to accept the stories that are part of our own destiny. The purpose of this book is to begin a journey in which she can create more paths for herself and the people; the paths which perhaps will lead us all to connect together and look at life with more curiosity and zeal. “Each story is fueled by a refined knowledge of magical wisdom. Bose shows man in his reckless struggle with fate.” - Anne Vegter, (former) Poet Laureate of the Netherlands “I noticed in the society how the women are given chances to bloom only to be crushed repeatedly,” writes Anindita Bose in one of these stories in which she combines attention to daily life with another dimension that seems to come from a soul who is many years older than she actually is.” - Franca Mancinelli Fano, Italy

Book Everything Was Forever Until It Was No More

Download or read book Everything Was Forever Until It Was No More written by Alexei Yurchak and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2013-08-07 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soviet socialism was based on paradoxes that were revealed by the peculiar experience of its collapse. To the people who lived in that system the collapse seemed both completely unexpected and completely unsurprising. At the moment of collapse it suddenly became obvious that Soviet life had always seemed simultaneously eternal and stagnating, vigorous and ailing, bleak and full of promise. Although these characteristics may appear mutually exclusive, in fact they were mutually constitutive. This book explores the paradoxes of Soviet life during the period of "late socialism" (1960s-1980s) through the eyes of the last Soviet generation. Focusing on the major transformation of the 1950s at the level of discourse, ideology, language, and ritual, Alexei Yurchak traces the emergence of multiple unanticipated meanings, communities, relations, ideals, and pursuits that this transformation subsequently enabled. His historical, anthropological, and linguistic analysis draws on rich ethnographic material from Late Socialism and the post-Soviet period. The model of Soviet socialism that emerges provides an alternative to binary accounts that describe that system as a dichotomy of official culture and unofficial culture, the state and the people, public self and private self, truth and lie--and ignore the crucial fact that, for many Soviet citizens, the fundamental values, ideals, and realities of socialism were genuinely important, although they routinely transgressed and reinterpreted the norms and rules of the socialist state.
