Book excerpt: Beginning with the story of my ancestors coming from France and Ireland to the new world. How they settled in Nova Scotia, made friends with the local Indians, and how they were uprooted by English soldiers, burned out and scattered. Taken on ships to far places, then eventually finding their way back. How family members accepted the English presence, and their life after the 1775 war. My grandparents life in the late 1800's. My parents short marriage and my birth, followed by my own growing-up years, being rejected by my mother who eventually placed me with her French relatives, who, in turn, also rejected me. My eventual marriage during the Second World War, which led to brief years of life in England. On coming to the United States in 1948, and our years of working and raising our family. Finally, this book concerns our retiring years in Florida and many years of marriage, all of which were spent with the word "Bluebird" engraved inside my wedding ring, and kept close ever since our wedding day.

One can only conclude that the future can't always be controlled, but must be accepted. This is a gift for the firefighters, doctors, babysitters, and Good Samaritans who have felt unwarranted guilt through their failed heroic attempts to save a life. Book Somewhere Bluebirds Fly

Download or read book Somewhere Bluebirds Fly written by Rick Farrant and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2020-09-15 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Somewhere Bluebirds Fly By: Rick Farrant Rick Farrant never thought he would find his birth mother. He never thought he would find a sense of belonging, a sense of home. Six decades into his life, he was resigned to the idea that his origins would forever remain a mystery. But all that changed when he decided to submit his DNA to an open-source database. In Somewhere Bluebirds Fly, Farrant recounts a dysfunctional childhood, a lifelong, chaotic struggle for identity punctuated by substance abuse, mental illness and failed relationships, and late-in-life discoveries about his origins that brought both acceptance and rejection. It is a story of perseverance and hope, and it illustrates the realities associated with searching for biological relatives at a time when millions of people worldwide are turning to science to make those connections. It also provides interesting anecdotal information for the ages-old nature versus nurture debate. Farrant’s story is supported by numerous documents, photographs and recollections dating back many decades. Just as illuminating is his honest, transparent account of a life lived in recurring turmoil. Although the story is set against the backdrop of adoption, it is insightful for anyone who has ever yearned to find themselves and to heal.

Download or read book The Bluebird Effect written by Julie Zickefoose and published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. This book was released on 2012-03-20 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Julie Zickefoose lives for the moment when a wild, free living bird that she has raised or rehabilitated comes back to visit her; their eyes meet and they share a spark of understanding. Her reward for the grueling work of rescuing birds—such as feeding baby hummingbirds every twenty minutes all day long—is her empathy with them and the satisfaction of knowing the world is a birdier and more beautiful place. The Bluebird Effect is about the change that's set in motion by one single act, such as saving an injured bluebird—or a hummingbird, swift, or phoebe. Each of the twenty five chapters covers a different species, and many depict an individual bird, each with its own personality, habits, and quirks. And each chapter is illustrated with Zickefoose's stunning watercolor paintings and drawings. Not just individual tales about the trials and triumphs of raising birds, The Bluebird Effect mixes humor, natural history, and memoir to give readers an intimate story of a life lived among wild birds.
