Book The Vacillations and Oscillations of Foreign Direct Investment Debt Unemployment and Economic Growth Nexus in Namibia

Download or read book The Vacillations and Oscillations of Foreign Direct Investment Debt Unemployment and Economic Growth Nexus in Namibia written by David Mpunwa and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2020-04-09 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2020 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, grade: Masters, , course: Research Paper, language: English, abstract: It is the purpose of this paper to unravel the oscillations and vacillations of foreign direct investment, debt, unemployment to economic growth nexus. The nexus of good governance, unemployment, economic growth and FDI is essential. Good economic governance shows a positive effect on growth, attracts FDI, reduces unemployment and attracts economic growth. Bad economic governance is inclined to reduce economic growth, increases unemployment, reduces FDI, cause people to languish in debts and delays people in the investment process. A positive sign of corruption indicates that the higher the corruption, the lower the inward FDI. The researcher disagrees that corruption is suitable for foreign investors. The pendulum is tilted where investors prefer not to invest in countries with high corruption where there is a lack of enforcement laws. Further, foreign investors have created an ecosystem where local small businesses cannot compete. More worrying is the state's credit rating that has seen a consistent downgrade by major credit rating agencies, which now stands at sub-investment grade, or what is referred to as "junk status". The main reasons quoted for this declivity was going to the dogs of Namibia's financial robustness due to massive fiscal lopsidedness, an astronomic debt excess baggage and limited enterprise capacity to manage shocks and address long-term structural pecuniary rigidities. There has been a rift between the youth haves and have-nots in term of job allocation. The total household debt in Namibia is made up mostly of mortgages, car loans, student loans and credit card debt. The car loans, mortgages, credit cards and student loans make up most of 95% of Namibia household debt.

Book Foreign Direct Investment in Infrastructure

Download or read book Foreign Direct Investment in Infrastructure written by David Donaldson and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1997 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World Bank Discussion Paper No. 351. Outlines Tunisia's innovative strategy of reducing the budgetary costs of food subsidies in a manner that is politically acceptable and that protects the nutritional status of the poor. The government uses self-targeted programs, whereby subsidies are shifted to items consumed primarily by low-income groups, while prices of unsubsidized, higher-quality items are liberalized, appealing to higher-income groups who then consume less of the subsidized foods.

Book Foreign Direct Investment in Sub Saharan Africa

Download or read book Foreign Direct Investment in Sub Saharan Africa written by Laurence Cockcroft and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1991 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foreign investment is even less likely to meet Sub-Saharan Africa's rising foreign exchange and savings gaps in the 1990s than in the dismal 1980s. Investors interested in Sub-Saharan Africa are more likely to commit technology and management than equity capital. Economic activity and overall economic policy may be more effective at raising the total volume of investment than special fiscal and other incentives.

Book Foreign Direct Investment in Africa

Download or read book Foreign Direct Investment in Africa written by Jacques P. Morisset and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A few Sub-Saharan countries, by improving their business environment, have begun to attract more substantial foreign direct investment than other African countries with bigger domestic markets and greater natural resources. Like Ireland and Singapore, perhaps they can become competitive internationally and attract sustainable foreign direct investment.Africa has not succeeded in attracting much foreign direct investment in the past few decades. When countries did attract multinational companies, it was principally because of their (abundant) natural resources and the size of their domestic market. Angola, Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, and South Africa have traditionally been the main recipients of foreign direct investment in Sub-Saharan Africa. But Morisset shows that a few Sub-Saharan countries have generated interest among international investors by improving their business environment. In the 1990s, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, and Senegal attracted substantial foreign direct investment - more so than countries with bigger domestic markets (Cameroon, Republic of Congo, and Kenya) and greater natural resources (Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe).Mali and Mozambique, which improved their business climate spectacularly in the 1990s, did so with a few strategic actions: liberalizing trade, launching an attractive privatization program, modernizing mining and investment codes, adopting international agreements on foreign direct investment, developing a few priority projects that had multiplier effects on other investment projects, and mounting an image-building effort in which political figures such as the nation's president participated. These actions are similar to those associated with the success of other small countries with limited natural resources, such as Ireland and Singapore about 20 years ago. This paper - a product of the Foreign Investment Advisory Service, International Finance Corporation - is part of a larger effort to understand foreign direct investment flows in developing countries. Book Administrative Barriers to Foreign Investment

Download or read book Administrative Barriers to Foreign Investment written by and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2000 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When at every turn, they find a new twist, or a new requirement, foreign investors in Africa can be easily discouraged from setting up businesses. Although many African governments have liberalized and reformed investment policies and promote themselves as investment sites, the reality facing investors differs greatly. To help change the 'lack of investor response' to Africa's enticements, this book examines the administrative constraints to investment in several African countries. It presents the experience that confronts investors when they set up a company. The case histories demonstrate how the morass of licenses, approvals, permits, and other requirements that result in undue delays and unforeseen costs encourage bribery and corruption and foster an environment of pervasive uncertainty for all investors. The chapters are divided into four areas, which correspond roughly to the chronological process of investment. They are: 1) general approvals, licenses, and registrations; 2) specialized approvals; 3) requirements to gain access to land, site development, and utility connections; and 4) operational requirements. This publication will be of interest to government officials, academics, and investment firms.
