The first is to describe the analysis and compare the corporate income tax regimes in the five CEE countries with the regimes in other countries that might compete for the same capital. The second purpose is to discuss the benefits and costs of the various options that the five CEE countries may consider for development of their corporate income tax policies. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The post-communist European countries have faced enormous political and economic problems in attempting the transformation to a market oriented economy through two of the most important channels influencing this process—privatization and foreign investments. Focusing on Russia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Poland, the authors examine the trends toward privatization and the problems facing the countries economic managers and foreign investors. They explore what can be done to increase foreign direct and equity investment given the political risks involved in the economic transformation. Scholars and students of international economics, international trade, Russian and Eastern European studies, and government and international agencies should find this study on the relationship between privatization and foreign investment informative and useful.

Book Foreign Investment in Eastern Europe

Download or read book Foreign Investment in Eastern Europe written by Zbigniew Dobosiewicz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent events in Eastern Europe have brought questions of foreign investment to the fore. Why should foreign concerns want to invest in countries like Poland and Hungary? What are the pitfalls to be avoided? How can East European countries attract investment? This book answers these questions in the light of the increased economic activity in the countries of Eastern Europe. While there has always been some investment, it has been limited and often based on special agreements allowing investors no proprietory rights; governments are now rapidly developing policies to encourage joint ventures and foreign enterprise. This study looks at the variety of problems that face investors, such as converting earnings into hard currencies, the controls imposed by state bureaucracies which are still powerful, and the constantly changing regulations. It explains today's legal regulations, covering the way they have evolved and the current changes. By looking at companies already investing in Eastern Europe, it analyses not only the problems they encounter but the ones they create. This study also looks at the political and social implications of such economic activity and concludes with an analysis of the long-term future for foreign enterprise.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fall of communism and subsequent developments have put a renewed spotlight on the potential of the Balkan economies. Bulgaria, Albania, Serbia & Montenegro, Romania and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia are countries which have attracted low levels of investment and poor political leadership in most of the countries has delayed much needed reforms. However, there are now signs of improvement and this timely book fills a significant gap in the available literature. Demonstrating that these countries must engage as fully as possible with the world economy via EU accession, this book explores the implications of the specific characteristics of these countries which have made the transition process more difficult. This exciting new volume is valuable reading for students, academics and business professionals interested in international development in the Balkans.
