Book Foreign Direct Investment Location and Competitiveness

Download or read book Foreign Direct Investment Location and Competitiveness written by European International Business Academy. Conference and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2008 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume addresses some of the critical issues now demanding the attention of International Business teachers and researchers. From several angles, the contributions analyze factors which may explain, and/or influence the relationship between the competitiveness of multinational enterprises (MNEs) and the countries in which they operate. More particularly, the four main issues address: the recent advances in the determinants and strategy of multinational business activity; the determinants of location competitiveness of countries; the competitiveness of emergent and developing countries and the locational responses of both indigenous and foreign-owned firms; and the policy challenges raised by the highly fragmented, and often uncoordinated international regulatory framework on government FDI. It is hoped the contents of the volume will be of interest to international business scholars, senior executives of multinational enterprises and national policy makers interested in advancing their competitiveness by engaging in outward, and encouraging inward foreign direct investment. This book addresses some of the critical issues now demanding the attention of International Business teachers and researchers. This book is published annually.

Download or read book Foreign Direct Investment and the Global Economy written by Jeremy Alden and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-01-26 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the emergence of a truly global marketplace, regions now face far greater competition in attracting outside investment, and multinational companies have to consider local conditions on many levels before choosing to invest. The contributors describe the much discussed global-local interlay apparent in the operations of multinational companies and their involvement with 'regulatory' institutions at different levels, from the global to the local.

Book The Global FDI Network Searching for Ultimate Investors

Download or read book The Global FDI Network Searching for Ultimate Investors written by Jannick Damgaard and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper addresses three types of geographical decoupling in foreign direct investment (FDI), i.e., challenges when using traditional FDI data as a proxy for real economic integration between economies: (i) large bilateral asymmetries between inward and outward FDI, (ii) the role of special purpose entities (SPEs), and (iii) the effect of moving from immediate counterpart to ultimate investing economy (UIE). A unique global FDI network is estimated, where SPEs are removed and FDI positions are broken down by the UIE. Total inward FDI in the new network is reduced by one-third, and financial centers are less dominant.

Book International Corporate Networks

Download or read book International Corporate Networks written by John Schoeneman and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of corporations has been part of the broader international political economy literature since the late 1960s. However, data and methodological limitations prevented scholars from studying corporate activity in a way that explores structural network dependencies between corporations. In this dissertation I expand the literature's understanding of corporate activity at the country, firm, and individual level through the use of models that estimate structural dependence and by employing machine learning to incorporate network variables. The first article develops a theoretical framework that accounts for complex dependence in foreign direct investment relationships at the country level. The second article applies entity resolution models to combine company network datasets with relevant covariate datasets and analyzes the political donation activity of board members. The third article analyzes a newly constructed dataset to examine the relationship between executive level ties between firms and firm lobbying behavior.

Book Trade And Foreign Direct Investment In Data Services

Download or read book Trade And Foreign Direct Investment In Data Services written by Karl P. Sauvant and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-20 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data services are among the most dynamic components of international trade and foreign direct investment. Technical progress, changes in the economic sector, factors influencing the international specialization in data services, and the impact of obstacles combine to determine the growth of trade and foreign direct investment in data services. UNCTC assumed the responsibility for preparing the sectoral paper on trade and foreign direct investment in data services (transborder data flows). The scope of the paper was to include an examination of the importance and impact of the emerging data-service industries, especially in Latin America; a clarification of conceptual issues related to trade and foreign direct investment in data services; a documentation of the dimensions of various forms of international transactions in services; an analysis of the determinants of these transactions; a review of the policies and issues relating to them; and an outline of possible actions at the national, regional, and international levels for dealing with questions related to data services. The present study contains the results of the work on these issues. Special attention is given throughout this book to developing countries in general and Latin American countries in particular.

Book Networks of International Trade and Investment

Download or read book Networks of International Trade and Investment written by Sara Gorgoni and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2018-03-30 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent decades, the international economy has witnessed fundamental changes in the way manufacturing is organised: products are no longer manufactured in their entirety in a single location. Instead, the production process is often split across a number of stages located in countries that are frequently far apart from each other. By spreading out their manufacturing and supply chain activities globally through international investment and intra-firm trade, Multinational enterprises (MNEs) play a focal role in this reorganisation of production. Our ability to understand the global economy, therefore, requires an understanding of the interdependencies between the entities involved in such fragmented production. Traditional methods and statistical approaches are insufficient to address this challenge. Instead, an approach is required that allows us to account for these interdependencies. The most promising approach so far is network analysis. ‘Networks of International Trade and Investment’ makes a case for the use of network analysis alongside existing techniques in order to investigate pressing issues in international business and economics. The authors put forward a range of well-informed studies that examine compelling topics such as the role of emerging economies in global trade and the evolution of world trade patterns. They look at how network analysis, as both an approach and a methodology, can explain international business and economics phenomena, in particular, in relation to international trade and investment. Providing a comprehensive but accessible explanation of the applications of network analysis and some of the most recent methodological advances in its field, this edited volume is an important contribution to research in international trade and investment.

Book Foreign Direct Investment and Development

Download or read book Foreign Direct Investment and Development written by Theodore Moran and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2011-04-15 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the culmination of Institute investigations on the relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and development. Today, more than one-third of world trade takes place in the form of intrafirm transactions—that is, trade among the various parts of the same corporate network spread across borders—and the bulk of technology is transferred within the confines of integrated international production systems. This means that FDI and the operations of multinational corporations have become central to the world economy at large. Nowhere is this more important than for developing countries. But as Theodore Moran argues in this new volume, FDI is not a single phenomenon. FDI has such different impacts in the extractive sector, infrastructure, manufacturing and assembly, and services—and presents such distinctive policy challenges—that each broad category of FDI must be treated on its own terms. Indeed, past studies that have aggregated all FDI flows together to try to find some unique relationship to host-country growth or welfare have led to unreliable substantive findings and, sometimes, mistaken policy conclusions. Moran examines each of the principal forms of FDI, extracts the best from previous analysis, and offers new findings and perspectives about how benefits from FDI in each sector can be enhanced and potential damages limited or eliminated.
