Book Forced Checkers Classic Reprint

Download or read book Forced Checkers Classic Reprint written by Anker Jensen and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Forced Checkers For many years the writer has thought that a checker compilation on forced lines, would enable the beginner to get away to a better start. The average player will spend twenty years selecting certain lines, and meanwhile he has delved into so many variations which fill his mind to 'such an extent that he has no brain space left for strong lines of play. I believe the reader will agree with me when I state that there is a limit to the human brain. Otherwise a world's champion would never lose a game. It took the writer twenty-five years to collect these games, which have been selected from all sources and I have given credit as near as possible. If the reader will concentrate on these lines and not allow himself to be sidetracked on other lines, he will soon be able to hold his own with very good players. Do not try to solve problems, but commit them to memory, at least one end-game problem daily. The play is arranged so that the student will have a nucleus to build on when ready to branch into two-move style of play. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Board Game Education is an entertaining and valuable resource for parents, teachers, educators, and anyone who appreciates the fun and entertainment provided by classic, traditional board games. The book provides an informative analysis of how classic board games that everyone has played_and probably owns_are not only great family entertainment but also develop core educational skills that have been proven to lead to academic achievement. Through A Board Game Education readers learn a bit of the fascinating history trivia and little-known facts regarding the most loved board games of all time (i.e., how Monopoly was used by WWII POWs to escape). At the same time, Hinebaugh identifies the distinct educational skills developed by each of these games and explores in detail how the play of these games cultivates such skills. A Board Game Education also provides valuable suggestions about how to modify and vary these classic board games to specifically enhance additional core educational skills and concepts. Who would have thought that Candy Land could be modified into a strategy game and Chutes and Ladders could be used to teach algebraic equations and advanced math.

Book The Spanish Origin of the Checkers and Modern Chess Game Volume III

Download or read book The Spanish Origin of the Checkers and Modern Chess Game Volume III written by Govert Westerveld and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-10-18 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1987 we have defended in articles that the Spanish queen Isabella I of Castile (Isabel la Catolica) was the new chess queen (dama) on the chessboard. Other publications were in 1990, 1994, 1997, and 2004. And of course, Marilyn Yalom studied our book during her visit to the National Library in The Hague (Holland) before she wrote Birth of the Chess Queen in 2004. In her book one cannot see that in 1987, 1990, and 1994 we already published material about Isabel la Catolica (Isabel I of Castile) being the new powerful dama or chess queen on the chessboard. In other words we can state here that we have been studying Spanish history and its chess literature for over 30 years. Since 2003 we have also known the development of the new bishop in chess."

Book Ethnographies of Reason

Download or read book Ethnographies of Reason written by Eric Livingston and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-05-15 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by one of the most eminent scholars in the field, Ethnographies of Reason is a unique book in terms of the studies it presents, the perspective it develops and the research techniques it illustrates. Using concrete case study materials throughout, Eric Livingston offers a fundamentally different, ethnographic approach to the study of skill and reasoning. At the same time, he addresses a much neglected topic in the literature, illustrating practical techniques of ethnomethodological research and showing how such studies are actually conducted. The book is a major contribution to ethnomethodology, to social science methodology and to the study of skill and reasoning more generally.
