Book Use of Force Investigation Second Edition

Download or read book Use of Force Investigation Second Edition written by and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intent of this book is to provide macro and micro levels of analyses, beginning with institutional (political, legal) and ideological influences on the preservation, enhancement and expansion of State power and how this culture of values is passed on to the organizational and cultural fabric of law enforcement. The book then captures 30 years of officers' experiences, interprets emergent concepts, and officers' interpretations and meaning behind their action in social and legal contexts. It seeks to more clearly understand police action, particularly in violent encounters.Society often sees the use of force by the police through the evolving law, tactics, and weaponry used. However, underlying these are shifts in power, authorized and legitimized by the State, to deal with contingent circumstances and emerging threats to national security. Use of Force Investigation, Second Edition is more than just a book. It is a timeline in the evolution of power, law and criminal justice. This edition has updated material on crime scene investigation (firearms and ballistics), force protection (armor technologies), interpretation of police action during shootings, policy and procedure, use of force investigation including federal inquiry and intervention of police shootings, critical incident management, crisis intervention, emergency management, and security assessment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From their limited use in China during World War II, for example, to their often clandestine use in Vietnam ferrying supplies before the war escalated in 1964 and 1965 when their role became more prominent-and public-private military contractors (PMCs) have played made essential contributions to the success and failures of the military and United States. Today, with an emphasis on force restructuring mandated by the Pentagon, the role of PMCs, and their impact on policy-making decisions is at an all time peak. This work analyzes that impact, focusing specifically on PMCs in Iraq since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003. Isenberg dissects their responsibilities, the friction that exists between contractors and military commanders, problems of protocol and accountability, as well as the problems of regulation and control that PMC companies create for domestic politics. Isenberg organizes his work thematically, addressing all facets of PMCs in the current conflict from identifying who the most influential companies are and how they got to that point, to the issues that the government, military, and contractors themselves face when they take the field. He also analyzes the problem of command, control, and accountability. It is no secret that PMCs have been the source of consternation and grief to American military commanders in the field. As they work to establish more routine protocols in the field, however, questions are also being raised about the role of the contractors here at home. The domestic political arena is perhaps the most crucial battleground on which the contractors must have success. After all, they make their corporate living off of taxpayer dollars, and as such, calls for regulation have resonated throughout Washington, D.C., growing louder as the profile of PMCs increases during the current conflict.

Book Aerospace Physiology Second Edition

Download or read book Aerospace Physiology Second Edition written by Steven C. Martin and published by Gatekeeper Press. This book was released on 2023-01-31 with total page 677 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aerospace physiology (also known as flight or aviation physiology, human factors, or aeromedical factors) is the scientific discipline studying the effects of flight conditions on human physiological and cognitive systems teaching aviators to work and function at peak efficiency in the abnormal environment of flight. This information is introduced to pilots throughout their training and includes hypoxia, spatial disorientation, visual illusions, fatigue, trapped gases, and many others. Unfortunately, all of these issues still create incidents and accidents for pilots on a regular basis even today. The reason for this disparity is pilots may know about the information but fail to understand it completely. This book will transform a pilot’s potential misinterpretation of this subject matter into definitive action on the flight deck. The most current, authoritative, and comprehensive resource on this critical subject is Aerospace Physiology: Aeromedical and Human Performance Factors in Aviation (Second Edition). This book provides professional-grade information for enhancing safety-of-flight for all pilot experience levels. The book was written for use in academic settings and is currently the preferred text on flight physiology for the world-renowned University of North Dakota’s John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences, plus other university aviation programs. The book’s twenty-two chapters follow a logical presentation format, with each chapter thoroughly discussing the topic in understandable language, followed by core competency questions. Each topic details the environmental causes, potential physiological & cognitive responses, plus effective and proven anticipation & mitigation strategies. The book uses the most recent research and experience-based information combined with current aviation incidents and accidents that illustrate how these issues present themselves in realistic flight environments, followed by discussions on how those events may have been prevented. The information in this book is based on Mr. Martin’s thirty years of military and civilian aviation experience, as well as modeled after the US Air Force’s Physiological Training Program for pilots and the comprehensive European Union Aviation Safety Agency’s (EASA) flight physiology human performance standards. Using Aerospace Physiology: Aeromedical and Human Performance Factors for Pilots (Second Edition) as your learning or teaching resource will elevate your standard of training to its highest levels. The book is essential for all student pilots, certified flight instructors, and licensed private and professional pilots.
