Book Forages sondages et essais in situ g otechniques

Download or read book Forages sondages et essais in situ g otechniques written by Philippe Reiffsteck and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 796 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Les essais in situ en g otechnique

Download or read book Les essais in situ en g otechnique written by Jacques Monnet and published by ISTE Group. This book was released on 2016-02-01 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Lake Pavin written by Télesphore Sime-Ngando and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-31 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents the first multidisciplinary scientific work on a deep volcanic maar lake in comparison with other similar temperate lakes. The syntheses of the main characteristics of Lake Pavin are, for the first time, set in a firmer footing comparative approach, encompassing regional, national, European and international aquatic science contexts. It is a unique lake because of its permanently anoxic monimolimnion, and furthermore, because of its small surface area, its substantially low human influence, and by the fact that it does not have a river inflow. The book reflects the scientific research done on the general limnology, history, origin, volcanology and geological environment as well as on the geochemistry and biogeochemical cycles. Other chapters focus on the biology and microbial ecology whereas the sedimentology and paleolimnology are also given attention. This volume will be of special interest to researchers and advanced students, primarily in the fields of limnology, biogeochemistry, and aquatic ecology.

Book Selected Water Problems in Islands and Coastal Areas

Download or read book Selected Water Problems in Islands and Coastal Areas written by Sam Stuart and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selected Water Problems in Islands and Coastal Areas serves as a guideline for implementing, at the policy and decision-making level, the rational and economic use of water resources. This book focuses on groundwater management and the possible utilization of desalination facilities, specifically in arid or semi-arid coastal areas. Organized into five parts encompassing 63 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the forecasts of water supply requirements. This text then explores the necessary regulations of both surface and groundwater in coastal areas and islands with limited water resources. Other chapters consider the curative measures in the case of recurring salination by using artificial or increased natural infiltration. This book discusses as well the techniques to be used for artificial infiltration into aquifers using deep wells to avoid clogging. The final chapter deals with the problems of communal installations, water supply, drainage and waste disposal. This book is a valuable resource for engineers.

Book Reading Prehistoric Human Tracks

Download or read book Reading Prehistoric Human Tracks written by Andreas Pastoors and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Open Access book explains that after long periods of prehistoric research in which the importance of the archaeological as well as the natural context of rock art has been constantly underestimated, research has now begun to take this context into focus for documentation, analysis, interpretation and understanding. Human footprints are prominent among the long-time under-researched features of the context in caves with rock art. In order to compensate for this neglect an innovative research program has been established several years ago that focuses on the merging of indigenous knowledge and western archaeological science for the benefit of both sides. The book gathers first the methodological diversity in the analysis of human tracks. Here major representatives of anthropological, statistical and traditional approaches feature the multi-layered methods available for the analysis of human tracks. Second it compiles case studies from around the globe of prehistoric human tracks. For the first time, the most important sites which have been found worldwide are published in a single publication. The third focus of this book is on firsthand experiences of researchers with indigenous tracking experts from around the globe, expounding on how archaeological sciencecan benefit from the ancestral knowledge. This book will be of interest to professional archaeologists, graduate students, ecologists, cultural anthropologists and laypeople, especially those focussing on hunting-gathering and pastoralist communities and who appreciate indigenous knowledge.--

Book excerpt: This classic title deals presents all one needs to know about pressuremeter test, a soil and rock test used in civil engineering. It consists of placing a cylindrical probe in the ground and expanding the probe to pressurize the soil or the rock horizontally. The pressure on the soil and the relative increase in cavity radius are obtained and give an in situ stress strain curve. The pressuremeter test is repeated at various depths in order to obtain profiles of soil parameters. The design applications of the preboring pressuremeter test include: shallow foundations under vertical loads, deep foundations under vertical and horizontal loads, ground anchors, cantilever drilled shaft walls and anchored bulkheads, pavements, stone columns, ground improvement and compaction control.

Book Lagoa Santa Karst Brazil s Iconic Karst Region

Download or read book Lagoa Santa Karst Brazil s Iconic Karst Region written by Augusto S. Auler and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-22 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the Lagoa Santa Karst, which has been internationally known since the pioneering studies of the Danish naturalist Peter Lund in the early 1800s. It covers the speleogenesis, geology, vegetation, fauna, hydrogeology, geomorphology, and anthropogenic use of the Lagoa Santa Karst and is the first English-language book on this major karst area. The area, which has been at the heart of the debate on the origin and age of human colonization in the Americas, is characterized by a classical and scenic karst landscape with limestone cliffs, karst lakes and karst plains, in addition to numerous solution dolines. More than 1,000 caves have been documented in the area, many with significant archeological and paleontological value. Despite its great importance, the Lagoa Santa Karst faces severe environmental threats due to limestone mining and the expansion of the metropolis of Belo Horizonte and its surrounding towns. The growing recognition of the area’s remarkable significance has led to increasing concern, and a number of protected areas have now been established, improving the conservation status of this landmark karst area.
