Book For the Love of Horror

Download or read book For the Love of Horror written by Michael Arruda and published by Crossroad Press. This book was released on 2018-06-28 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FOR THE LOVE OF HORROR is Stoker-nominated author Michael Arruda's first short story collection. It contains fifteen short stories, seven reprints and eight original stories, plus a wraparound story that ties everything together. It's written with the old Amicus anthology horror movies in mind, films like DR. TERRORS HOUSE OF HORRORS (1965) and THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD (1971). It’s a love story, but it’s actually more of an anti-love story. The folks in these stories make more mistakes and handle relationships in such appalling ways—well, let’s put it this way, if you do the opposite of what most of the characters do in these stories, you’ll be in good shape. Then again, you can do everything right, and your relationship can still go down the toilet. It’s the nature of the relationship beast, and it’s one of the themes of FOR THE LOVE OF HORROR. Men and women want to be involved with each other. Men and women need to be involved with each other. But more often than not, it’s not a pretty process. And sometimes it’s downright sinister.

Their only clues are the blood splattered dog-grooming scissors found buried in a fellow competitor's chest, a husband blackmailing his wife, and a death threat written on a Betty Boop writing pad. As the Chicks investigate, they discover several suspects at the dog show have something to hide. Was the dead man really a serial Don Juan, intent on taking every female show competitor over 30 to bed? Did the ostentatious poodle exhibitor lose his temper, decide to teach the victim a lesson, and go too far? Or, was the female judge with the Gucci boots angry when the victim threatened to expose her infidelity? And who is that bad-boy biker with the sea-blue eyes and kissable lips? Molly, who has enough trouble resolving conflict in her fictional stories is freaked out at the prospect of confronting a real-life antihero. A villain who's killed not once, but twice, and if she doesn't apply her creative flair to unearthing the culprit, could easily kill again. Just when the Chicks think they know who the murderer is, Molly stumbles over another clue proving them all wrong. With only a geriatric chihuahua and a hairless broom to work with, will she live to pass this message on to the others?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his eighty-plus years, Max Evans has known, owned, ridden, and been thrown by quite a number of horses. In For the Love of a Horse, Evans shares his favorite horse stories for all to enjoy. As Max explains, "I wanted a wide range of adventures from another time, with different horses, of different breeds, and a sense of history of those special days." Max begins with his first horse, Cricket, which he received when he was four years old. At the age of ten, he helped with a horse-drive from far southeast New Mexico, through west Texas, and on to the final destination in Guymon, Oklahoma. Later, PDQ was a horse that seemed very gentle and laid-back, until someone rode him. And then there was Molly, who liked to fly through and around obstacles on coyote hunts. This book is for all those who enjoy reading horse stories as much as Max loves telling them. Saddle up! "The recognition is long overdue. (Max Evans is) sui generis. He understands the present West better than anyone else, what it's like to be there now living in two worlds of the pickup truck and the bronco."--Charles Champlin, former Denver bureau chief of Time and retired arts editor of The Los Angeles Times, quoted in The New York Times

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2015 an unknown Canadian medium, who was dedicated to seeking truth, was given the opportunity to channel a unique message from spirit: a novel about God's love for humanity. It was Yeshua ben Yosef, known to many as Jesus Christ, who composed this great work and transmitted it to the medium. The purpose of the novel was to teach anew the importance of our relationship with God. As the characters of the book experience joys and tragedies in their lives and are faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges, we see the results of lives lived without a conscious relationship with God contrasted with those lived in harmony with His will. From there the reader will be inspired to explore his or her own relationship with God.
