Book The Joy of the Gospel

Download or read book The Joy of the Gospel written by Pope Francis and published by Image. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Includes a foreword by Robert Barron, author of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith and James Martin, SJ, author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage

Book Missionary Mother Around the World with Five Kids

Download or read book Missionary Mother Around the World with Five Kids written by Lisa Enqvist and published by BookLocker.com, Inc.. This book was released on 2015-08-01 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anna had felt the pain of being an outsider in her own family. She would never submit her children to what she had endured and was determined always to be with them while they still needed her. She never imagined what the price of that decision would be. This book is an attempt to show what she went through as she clung to her choice to keep her children together and give them a deep feeling of security in the turmoil of war and poverty. When the journey began, the oldest child was not yet seven years old, and the youngest had not learned to walk. Seven years and three months later the family returned to Finland. The goal of that journey was to go back to Manchuria, where Anna and her husband Toimi had lived and worked many years before World War II. The Civil War between Mao Zedong and the Nationalistic army changed their plans. They had to flee from Shenyang in North East China to Kunming in the south-west. Two years later, Anna had to take the children to safety again. This time she traveled alone with them to Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Toimi stayed on in China as long as he could. Toimi’s vision drove him to share the good news of God’s redeeming love and His gift of Eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. Nothing could stop him; not illness, war, or poverty; not advancing troops, loneliness, nor hunger. After eleven months, he joined the family in Ceylon, but his vision drove him to reach the people scattered around the island. He hardly ever had time to rest. Anna shared his vision, but she felt her primary duty lay with their children. Sometimes, even Toimi could not understand her stubborn decision in refusing to leave the children for more than a few days in the care of other people. He wanted her to be with him as much as possible. Her letters, written to her family during those long years, give glimpses of unbelievable struggles that would send most of us running back to the safety of home. Surprisingly often, her complaints are followed by an exclamation of expectation: Now God can show us how He keeps His promises. That discernment is woven with a moving honesty and thankfulness throughout this true account written by her youngest child. It is both inspiring and humbling and one you won’t soon forget.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume reflects a few of the authors thoughts and insights while her son was spending the best two years of his life serving a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Torreon, Mexico. Turning to the scriptures as a way of better coping with his absence, she was soon reminded that whether a person needed a lesson in faith, a reminder to be grateful, or a proverb on the value of hard work, she could find the answer within these divine pages. Applying scripture references from the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and the Doctrine and Covenants to everyday life, Musings underscores the importance of the sacred works in finding solace, inspiration, and guidance.

Book Out of the Dust

The church, school, and orphanage she later founded in northern Peru, all products of both her pain and her radical obedience to the Lord, have brought thousands of others out of the dust. This compelling story of an ordinary woman who serves God in extraordinary ways will challenge, inspire, and empower you to: * Eliminate excuses from your life * Recognize that in God’s kingdom, availability matters more than ability * Allow your pain to produce – not prevent – your obedience * Serve the Lord with the same abandon shown by one unlikely missionary

Book You Who Why You Matter and How to Deal With It

Download or read book You Who Why You Matter and How to Deal With It written by Rachel Jankovic and published by Canon Press & Book Service. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If "Who am I?" is the question you're asking, Rachel Jankovic doesn't want you to "find yourself" or "follow your heart." Those lies are nothing to the confidence, freedom, and clarity of purpose that come with knowing what is actually essential about you. And the answer to that question is at once less and more than what you are hoping for. Christians love the idea that self-expression is the essence of a beautiful person, but that's a lie, too. With trademark humor and no nonsense practicality, Rachel Jankovic explains the fake story of the Self, starting with the inventions of a supremely ugly man named Sartre (rhymes with "blart"). And we--men and women, young and old--have bought his lie of the Best Self, with terrible results. Thankfully, that's not the end of our story, You Who: Why You Matter and How to Deal with It takes the identity question into the nitty gritty details of everyday life. Here's the first clue: Stop looking inside, and start planting flags of everyday faithfulness. In Christianity, the self is always a tool and never a destination.

Download or read book Summoned from the Margin written by Lamin Sanneh and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2012-09-24 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summoned from the Margin tells the story of Lamin Sanneh's fascinating journey from his upbringing in an impoverished village in West Africa to education in the United States and Europe to a distinguished career teaching at the Universities of Yale, Harvard, Aberdeen, and Ghana. He grew up in a polygamous household in The Gambia and attended a government-run Muslim boarding school. A chance encounter with Helen Keller's autobiography taught him that education and faith are the key to overcoming physical and personal hardship and inspired his journey. Burning theological questions about God's nature and human suffering eventually led Sanneh to convert from Islam to Christianity and to pursue a career in academia. Here he recounts the unusually varied life experiences that have made him who he is today. Watch the trailer:

Book We Died Before We Came Here

Download or read book We Died Before We Came Here written by Emily Foreman and published by NavPress. This book was released on 2016-09-01 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If not you, who? If not now, when? This was the challenge answered by Stephen Foreman and his wife, Emily, when they traded in their American white picket fence for a giant, dusty sandbox as missionaries in the deserts of North Africa. Stephen had given Emily a well-read copy of Foxe’s Book of Martyrs on their first date, a telling foreshadowing of the ultimate cost he would pay when, at 39, he was shot and killed by al-Qaeda operatives. His life and death planted a seed of boldness and inspiration in the hearts of local believers. This seed would grow and multiply efforts to help reach the very goal that Stephen was willing to give his life for—glorifying God and seeing his Kingdom established among the nations. In this memoir, Emily, left with four kids and an undying calling to reach the Muslim world, recounts their heartrending yet uplifting story of sacrifice and love for a people held captive by the ultimate Enemy. Stephen did not die in vain. This promise echoes through the book’s pages and far beyond, in the minds and lives of countless individuals touched by a man who daily put his life in the hands of God. Because of security issues and the need to protect other workers and local believers in the country, the book employs pseudonyms for all major characters, including the authors.

Book Called to the Uttermost

Download or read book Called to the Uttermost written by Chara Vovou and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-07-31 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the author presents her own life story and the challenges of faith in God and commitment to her calling; presents her own path of destiny, which prompts the reader to examine his/her life purpose; demonstrates compelling reasons to support those in the mission field to fulfill the Great Commission; demonstrates how just one can significantly impact many; and demonstrates how to perform brainstorming, affinity diagramming, and life mapping exercises so the reader can more readily identify their future. Most people search for their purpose in life and want to know they are part of something greater. Sadly, some live out their lives never having known their true purpose. Reasons for this can include fear of success, reluctance to exert the effort and work required, or not knowing how to fulfill their dream. The purpose of this book is twofold. This book offers one missionarys journey to destiny and demonstrates how mapping the stages of ones life from early years can help identify the future more clearly. It features various tools to finding ones gift and calling. The American church is in transition from a traditional model to a missionary model. Many, having never served in the mission field, lack a well-defined understanding of the work of the missionary. The author bridges that gap for pastors, scholars, theologians, and laity. This book speaks in storytelling, ministering, and teaching voices. It inspires, provokes, and challenges its reader to greater heights of faith in God and commitment to their calling. It affords the reader a greater understanding of missionary work. It inspires one to render support to those in the field, especially for those who cannot go to the uttermost parts of the world. This books message is theologically sound and culturally informed. This book allows the readers to more clearly recognize their divine path forward as they trace their footsteps. This literary work offers encouragement, empowerment, and guidance for pastors, scholars, theologians and laity of the Christian faith in fulfilling the obligation to go into all the world and teach the Gospel, especially to the unreached areas. It affords the reader the opportunity to examine their particular calling in faith and to move forward into the path that God has destined them.
