Book excerpt: A mesmerizing tale of adventure, romance and survival. Driven by a mother's sacrifice to save her daughter from abuse, and a lifetime of poverty, deprivation and neglect, Footprints on the Heart unwinds an epic tale of love, loss, and exile in the lives of unforgettable characters, as they navigate the turbulence of six decades against a backdrop of powerful world events. Connected by circumstance and destiny, the lives of a celebrity model in New York, a goatherd from the upper Nile valley, and a young Jew cast out of his native land set off a chain of events amid lyrical evocations of the Egypt that fostered them all. How they navigate their lives and the fault lines that exist in each of them forms the substance of a complex novel of chance, passion, and history. Ripped from their comfort zones and their Egyptian birthplace, their destinies shaped by a land and a world in turmoil, each is propelled into New York worlds of challenge and opportunity, fashion and finance.

Book excerpt: Would you pay any price, do anything for the woman you love? Would you lay it all on the line and hold nothing back to find her, to win her heart? Does every second without her seem like an eternity lost? Can you imagine poetry that encompasses the emotions of wonder, apprehension, joy, elation, discord, passion, conscious personal growth and awareness that is written by a sequential, left-brained man teaching in a very left-brained academic area? Can you imagine the real masterpiece is not the poetry but the love this man holds in his heart for one woman, a woman he can only hope for, pray for? If you want to feel and renew the fire in your heart, this is the book that will do it. This is the second book of poetry written by Howard Lindsey. His first, 'Tears from the Heart' is now in its second edition and was written about and for the same woman, his Janet.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When doors are opened during our life’s journey, God has a plan for each one of us. When your life’s journey is finished, you will have experienced a full circle from childhood to many years later. Everyone you meet during your life’s circle is a learning experience for you and them. Be aware and be ready when to move on to an opening that God has planned for you to use your skills. These experiences are for your own personal growth with more knowledge for your next experience. The stories that are in this book are my doors being opened and closed as God was sending me to care for these patients who were being mistreated. I gave my patients the commitment of honesty, integrity, and my skills until God decided to move them on to be with Him. When a door is closed, it is time to move on to a door that God has opened for me to protect and care for another patient. These patients that I am sharing with you were instrumental in my life for a period of thirty years. I was not able to have conversations with the senility or traumatized patients from strokes. Our communications consisted of one word of response such as a yes or no, if I could hear it. I learned to be perceptive of their needs and with our own form of communication. The stories that are in this book are my doors being opened and closed as God was sending me to care for another patients who were being neglected. I was to protect and care for another patient. Should you recognize any of these stories or experiences that I have described, or they appear to be a familiar scenario, the names have been changed to protect the patients, the families, the care givers, and any others that were involved. God sent me on these journeys for all of us to benefit and know He is in control at all times. This book is dedicated to my patients, who were victimized by selfish, greedy, uncaring family members and friends. The comradery I had with these patients who appreciated my protection and care have left their “footprints in my heart” forever.

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “A delightful sampler plate of our national parks, written with charisma and erudition.”—Nick Offerman, author of Paddle Your Own Canoe From CBS Sunday Morning correspondent Conor Knighton, a behind-the-scenery look at his year traveling to each of America's National Parks, discovering the most beautiful places and most interesting people our country has to offer NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY OUTSIDE When Conor Knighton set off to explore America's "best idea," he worried the whole thing could end up being his worst idea. A broken engagement and a broken heart had left him longing for a change of scenery, but the plan he'd cooked up in response had gone a bit overboard in that department: Over the course of a single year, Knighton would visit every national park in the country, from Acadia to Zion. In Leave Only Footprints, Knighton shares informative and entertaining dispatches from what turned out to be the road trip of a lifetime. Whether he's waking up early for a naked scrub in a historic bathhouse in Arkansas or staying up late to stargaze along our loneliest highway in Nevada, Knighton weaves together the type of stories you're not likely to find in any guidebook. Through his unique lens, America the Beautiful becomes America the Captivating, the Hilarious, and the Inspiring. Along the way, he identifies the threads that tie these wildly different places together—and that tie us to nature—and reveals how his trip ended up changing his views on everything from God and love to politics and technology. Filled with fascinating tidbits about our parks' past and reflections on their fragile future, this book is both a celebration of and a passionate case for the natural wonders that all Americans share.
