The second novel from Maha Akhtar weaves a story of espionage, love, courage, and loyalty, told from the perspectives of the revolutionaries who fought alongside Lawrence of Arabia—and the women who gave them strength. Salah escapes Turkey, fearing he is about to be unmasked as a spy for the Arab Revolt. Meanwhile, Noura, his best friend’s widow, flees Beirut, and the two find themselves in Cairo. When he’s not carrying out spy missions with the legendary Lawrence of Arabia, Salah is hiding from the Ottoman secret police in the bustling labyrinth of the Khan el-Khalili market. Noura starts over, finding strength and support in new friendships forged at Rania’s Café, where everyone is somehow involved in the struggle for Arab independence. But independence comes at a cost. And when Lawrence plans an attack on Aqaba, the price may be very high indeed.

Book Ancient Footprints of the Colorado River 2nd Edition

Download or read book Ancient Footprints of the Colorado River 2nd Edition written by Alfredo A. Figueroa and published by Alfredo A.Figueroa. This book was released on 2012-12 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of more than 53 years of research which includes the many field studies and observations that we have done throughout the years that were conducted in the Lower Colorado River Basin Valleys and in Mexico. This book is centered in the area of Blythe, CA in the Palo Verde/Parker Valleys. The unique research that is presented in this book opens a Pandora's Box of unknown history that remained lost for centuries. Most of the work is based on the sacred images that are in the surrounding mountains which provide a majestic view seen from our home located in the ancient Barrio de Acacitli, today's Barrio de El Cuchillo. The Xicano MOvement has motivated the foundation of this book and provided the vision for the social activists that gave birth to the ideals that fueled the Xicano Movement to its height. This in-depth research brings forth the truth of the Azteca/Mexica place of origin of Aztlan and of our forefathers, Moctezuma and Cuauhtémoc. Our participation in the Xicano Movement and the search for the truth of the origin of our Indigenous roots has been more than just a hobby or fad. It has been our way of life. Our research was conducted within the Lower Colorado River Basin Valleys and is based on the sacred mountain images, sacred ancient trails, landmarks, pictographs, petroglyphs, intaglios/geoglyphs, solstices and equinoxes. These overwhelmingly geographical and cosmological connections cannot be denied. Our research is also based on the Native oral language, traditional songs, and history of the Lower Colorado River Basin Valleys. We have called the area of the Palo Verde/Parker Valleys "La Cuna de Aztlan" because the old Island of Aztlan was located in the Colorado River Indian Tribes Reservation (CRIT) as shown in the Boturini codex.

Download or read book First Footprints written by Scott Cane and published by Allen & Unwin. This book was released on 2013-10-30 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Footprints tells the extraordinary story of the Aboriginal people of Australia. How they made their way out of Africa 60,000 years ago, and how they survived across this vast continent, from the harsh deserts of the inland to the glaciers of southern Tasmania. With photos from the ABC TV series of the same name. Some 60,000 years ago, a small group of people landed on Australia's northern coast. They were the first oceanic mariners and this great southern land was their new home. Gigantic mammals roamed the plains and enormous crocodiles, giant snakes and goannas nestled in the estuaries and savannahs. First Footprints tells the epic story of Australia's Aboriginal people. It is a story of ancient life on the driest continent on earth through the greatest environmental changes experienced in human history: ice ages, extreme drought and inundating seas. It is chronicled through astonishing archaeological discoveries, ancient oral histories and the largest and oldest art galleries on earth. Australia's first inhabitants were the first people to believe in an afterlife, cremate their dead, engrave representations of the human face, and depict human sound and emotion. They created new technologies, designed ornamentation, engaged in trade, and crafted the earliest documents of war. Ultimately, they developed a sustainable society based on shared religious tradition and far-reaching social networks across the length and breadth of Australia.

Book Leave Only Footprints

Download or read book Leave Only Footprints written by Conor Knighton and published by Crown. This book was released on 2020 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Emmy-winning CBS Sunday Morning correspondent chronicles his year traveling to every one of our National Parks, discovering the most beautiful places and most interesting people that America has to offer. When Conor Knighton decided to spend a year wandering through America's "best idea," he was worried the whole thing might end up being his worst idea. But after a broken engagement and a broken heart, Conor desperately needed a change of scenery. The ambitious plan he cooked up went a bit overboard in that department; Knighton set out to visit every single one of America's National Parks, from Acadia to Zion. Leave Only Footprints is the memoir of his year spent traveling across the United States, a journey that yielded his "On the Trail" series, which quickly became one of CBS Sunday Morning's most beloved segments. In this smart, informative, and entertaining book, he shares how his journey through these natural wonders ended up changing his worldview on everything from God and love to politics and technology. Whether he's waking up early for a naked scrub in a historic bathhouse or staying up late to stargaze along our loneliest highway, Knighton goes behind the scenery to provide an unfiltered look at our country. In doing so, he reveals the unforgettable stories behind the often beautiful, always fascinating lands that all Americans share.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can the tracks of dinosaurs best be interpreted and used to reconstruct them? In many Mesozoic sedimentary rock formations, fossilized footprints of bipedal, three-toed (tridactyl) dinosaurs are preserved in huge numbers, often with few or no skeletons. Such tracks sometimes provide the only clues to the former presence of dinosaurs, but their interpretation can be challenging: How different in size and shape can footprints be and yet have been made by the same kind of dinosaur? How similar can they be and yet have been made by different kinds of dinosaurs? To what extent can tridactyl dinosaur footprints serve as proxies for the biodiversity of their makers? Profusely illustrated and meticulously researched, Noah's Ravens quantitatively explores a variety of approaches to interpreting the tracks, carefully examining within-species and across-species variability in foot and footprint shape in nonavian dinosaurs and their close living relatives. The results help decipher one of the world's most important assemblages of fossil dinosaur tracks, found in sedimentary rocks deposited in ancient rift valleys of eastern North America. Those often beautifully preserved tracks were among the first studied by paleontologists, and they were initially interpreted as having been made by big birds—one of which was jokingly identified as Noah's legendary raven.
