Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A profound meditation on climate change and the Anthropocene and an urgent search for the fossils—industrial, chemical, geological—that humans are leaving behind What will the world look like in ten thousand years—or ten million? What kinds of stories will be told about us? In Footprints: In Search of Future Fossils, the award-winning author David Farrier explores the traces we will leave for the very distant future. Modern civilization has created objects and landscapes with the potential to endure through deep time, whether it is plastic polluting the oceans and nuclear waste sealed within the earth or the 30 million miles of roads spanning the planet. Our carbon could linger in the atmosphere for 100,000 years, and the remains of our cities will still exist millions of years from now as a layer in the rock. These future fossils have the potential to reveal much about how we lived in the twenty-first century. Crossing the boundaries of literature, art, and science, Footprints invites us to think about how we will be remembered in the myths and stories of our distant descendants. Traveling from the Baltic Sea to the Great Barrier Reef, and from an ice-core laboratory in Tasmania to Shanghai, one of the world’s biggest cities, Farrier describes a world that is changing rapidly, with consequences beyond the scope of human understanding. As much a message of hope as a warning, Footprints will not only alter how you think about the future; it will change how you see the world today.

This book was released on 2024-02-12 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following God's footsteps and the mystery of God's will in Christian life and walk can be a daunting task. Multitudes of voices, life choices, and sociocultural options and challenges make it hard for one to perceive and understand clearly when God is truly speaking and what does His message entails. Thus, like Abraham, it may require an absolute departure from the habitual way of life to a far-out city, country, or region where God can start with us anew. Also, we must be willing to surrender our will to God's will and follow in His footstep wherever He may lead in daily life. Now that requires self-sacrifice and applied humility--a practical death to self. At times it's about listening to God's voice through a moral, spiritual, or ministerial decision. Other times it's just about family life crises, or it can be regarding political or social issues. God's will happens when we commit to listen to His word and apply it to practical life effortlessly for His sake. This author lived through it all and acknowledges that God's will is about following in His footsteps in every area of life--however mysterious or difficult it may appear. God's purpose for our lives' journey is already set in heaven--surrendering to His purpose will lead to a very content, satisfying, and joyful life regardless the challenges we experience throughout our lifetime. This autobiography will challenge you to begin exploring God's footsteps in different facets of your own life and intentionally pursue His mysterious plan.

Book Life Traces of the Georgia Coast

Download or read book Life Traces of the Georgia Coast written by Anthony J. Martin and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2013-01-14 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered what left behind those prints and tracks on the seashore, or what made those marks or dug those holes in the dunes? Life Traces of the Georgia Coast is an up-close look at these traces of life and the animals and plants that made them. It tells about how the tracemakers lived and how they interacted with their environments. This is a book about ichnology (the study of such traces) and a wonderful way to learn about the behavior of organisms, living and long extinct. Life Traces presents an overview of the traces left by modern animals and plants in this biologically rich region; shows how life traces relate to the environments, natural history, and behaviors of their tracemakers; and applies that knowledge toward a better understanding of the fossilized traces that ancient life left in the geologic record. Augmented by illustrations of traces made by both ancient and modern organisms, the book shows how ancient trace fossils directly relate to modern traces and tracemakers, among them, insects, grasses, crabs, shorebirds, alligators, and sea turtles. The result is an aesthetically appealing and scientifically grounded book that will serve as source both for scientists and for anyone interested in the natural history of the Georgia coast.

Book The Footprints of My Life

Download or read book The Footprints of My Life written by Doyle Harden and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-01-18 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of Harden’s life has been as a writer — a writer of facts in the news departments of radio, television and newspapers. “With all that factual writing, I thought what I was about to attempt would be vastly diffferent,” he said. “However, I learned otherwise. This book is also about facts — and the very life I’ve lived is certainly a fact.” After four years in the U.S. Air Force, his next step was into broadcasting. Trained as an annoucer, he later moved into the news departments and both wrote and voiced the news. During his long career, he also worked in television and as a newspaper writer/photographer. “Having written most of my adult life, I felt I could quickly and easily write of my family’s history”, Harden said, “but this was the most difi cult task I ever attempted. And, as it turned out, what I had written was more of an autobiography.” What’s next for Harden’s pencil? He says he wants to try writing fi ction. He plans to write a novel about a now-lost love of motorcycling. It will actually be an adventure/murder/suspense tale with a woman protagonist and he has already collected many pages of notes. Asked when the novel would be ready for readers, Harden smiled and said, “I can only say as mother’s have always told their children, “We’ll just have to wait and see”
