Download or read book Real Analysis written by Emmanuele DiBenedetto and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2016-09-17 with total page 621 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of this classic textbook presents a rigorous and self-contained introduction to real analysis with the goal of providing a solid foundation for future coursework and research in applied mathematics. Written in a clear and concise style, it covers all of the necessary subjects as well as those often absent from standard introductory texts. Each chapter features a “Problems and Complements” section that includes additional material that briefly expands on certain topics within the chapter and numerous exercises for practicing the key concepts. The first eight chapters explore all of the basic topics for training in real analysis, beginning with a review of countable sets before moving on to detailed discussions of measure theory, Lebesgue integration, Banach spaces, functional analysis, and weakly differentiable functions. More topical applications are discussed in the remaining chapters, such as maximal functions, functions of bounded mean oscillation, rearrangements, potential theory, and the theory of Sobolev functions. This second edition has been completely revised and updated and contains a variety of new content and expanded coverage of key topics, such as new exercises on the calculus of distributions, a proof of the Riesz convolution, Steiner symmetrization, and embedding theorems for functions in Sobolev spaces. Ideal for either classroom use or self-study, Real Analysis is an excellent textbook both for students discovering real analysis for the first time and for mathematicians and researchers looking for a useful resource for reference or review. Praise for the First Edition: “[This book] will be extremely useful as a text. There is certainly enough material for a year-long graduate course, but judicious selection would make it possible to use this most appealing book in a one-semester course for well-prepared students.” —Mathematical Reviews

Download or read book Problems And Solutions In Real Analysis Second Edition written by Masayoshi Hata and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2016-12-12 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition introduces an additional set of new mathematical problems with their detailed solutions in real analysis. It also provides numerous improved solutions to the existing problems from the previous edition, and includes very useful tips and skills for the readers to master successfully. There are three more chapters that expand further on the topics of Bernoulli numbers, differential equations and metric spaces. Each chapter has a summary of basic points, in which some fundamental definitions and results are prepared. This also contains many brief historical comments for some significant mathematical results in real analysis together with many references.Problems and Solutions in Real Analysis can be treated as a collection of advanced exercises by undergraduate students during or after their courses of calculus and linear algebra. It is also instructive for graduate students who are interested in analytic number theory. Readers will also be able to completely grasp a simple and elementary proof of the Prime Number Theorem through several exercises. This volume is also suitable for non-experts who wish to understand mathematical analysis.

Download or read book Contributions to Analysis written by Lars V. Ahlfors and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contributions to Analysis: A Collection of Papers Dedicated to Lipman Bers is a compendium of papers provided by Bers, friends, students, colleagues, and professors. These papers deal with Teichmuller spaces, Kleinian groups, theta functions, algebraic geometry. Other papers discuss quasiconformal mappings, function theory, differential equations, and differential topology. One paper discusses the results of the rigidity theorem of Mostow and its generalization by Marden in relation to geometric properties of Kleinian groups of the first kind. These results, obtained by planar methods, are presented in terms of the hyperbolic 3-space language, which is a natural pedestal in approaching the action of the Kleinian groups. Another paper reviews Riemann's vanishing theorem which solves the Jacobi inversion problem, by relating the vanishing properties of the theta function (particularly at half periods) to properties of certain linear series on the Riemann surface. One paper examines the problem of obtaining relations among the periods of the differentials of first kind on a compact Riemann surface. An application of a computer program involves supersonic transport. The program is based on the hodograph transformation and a method of complex characteristics to calculate profiles that are shock-less at a specified angle of attack, or at a specified subsonic free-stream Mach number. The collection can prove useful for engineers, statisticians, students, and professors in advance mathematics or courses related to aeronautics.
Download or read book MVT A Most Valuable Theorem written by Craig Smorynski and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-07 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the rise and supposed fall of the mean value theorem. It discusses the evolution of the theorem and the concepts behind it, how the theorem relates to other fundamental results in calculus, and modern re-evaluations of its role in the standard calculus course. The mean value theorem is one of the central results of calculus. It was called “the fundamental theorem of the differential calculus” because of its power to provide simple and rigorous proofs of basic results encountered in a first-year course in calculus. In mathematical terms, the book is a thorough treatment of this theorem and some related results in the field; in historical terms, it is not a history of calculus or mathematics, but a case study in both. MVT: A Most Valuable Theorem is aimed at those who teach calculus, especially those setting out to do so for the first time. It is also accessible to anyone who has finished the first semester of the standard course in the subject and will be of interest to undergraduate mathematics majors as well as graduate students. Unlike other books, the present monograph treats the mathematical and historical aspects in equal measure, providing detailed and rigorous proofs of the mathematical results and even including original source material presenting the flavour of the history.
Download or read book An Introduction to Metric Spaces written by Dhananjay Gopal and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-07-14 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as a textbook for an introductory course in metric spaces for undergraduate or graduate students. The goal is to present the basics of metric spaces in a natural and intuitive way and encourage students to think geometrically while actively participating in the learning of this subject. In this book, the authors illustrated the strategy of the proofs of various theorems that motivate readers to complete them on their own. Bits of pertinent history are infused in the text, including brief biographies of some of the central players in the development of metric spaces. The textbook is divided into seven chapters that contain the main materials on metric spaces; namely, introductory concepts, completeness, compactness, connectedness, continuous functions and metric fixed point theorems with applications. Some of the noteworthy features of this book include · Diagrammatic illustrations that encourage readers to think geometrically · Focus on systematic strategy to generate ideas for the proofs of theorems · A wealth of remarks, observations along with a variety of exercises · Historical notes and brief biographies appearing throughout the text

It analyzes the development by focusing on both the interior and the external influences. Italian mathematics in that period was shaped by a colorful array of strong personalities who concentrated their efforts on a select number of fields and won international recognition and respect in an incredibly short time. Consequently, Italy was considered a third mathematical power after France and Germany.
