Book Chasing God

    Book Details:
  • Author : Angie Smith
  • Publisher : B&H Publishing Group
  • Release : 2014-01-01

Download or read book Chasing God written by Angie Smith and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maybe you’ve never asked the question out loud, but you’ve wondered. You do the things that look good on paper: read your Bible, pray, attend study groups and go to church on Sundays. But you aren’t convinced you really know Him. Angie Smith understands, because she had run circles around the same paths searching for Him, frustrated at her lack of progress. And she probably would have continued to do so had it not been for one realization that changed everything. She wasn’t following God; she was trying to catch up with Him. And without realizing it, you may be as well. It’s a distinction that affects every aspect of our lives with Christ, and it begins with learning where we’ve relied more on man’s explanation of God than God Himself. So many requirements, so many rules, and so much guilt where there is supposed to be freedom. It’s the reason you wonder if you’ve measured up, and the nagging voice that tells you you’re a failure as a Christian. Three simple words changed everything for Angie, and she believes they can do the same for you. Stop chasing God.

  • Publisher : Zondervan
  • Release : 2017-01-10

Book excerpt: Scripture reveals a God who meets us where we are, not where we pretend to be. No More Faking Fine is your invitation to get honest with God through the life-giving language of lament. If you've ever been given empty clichés during challenging times, you know how painful it is to be misunderstood by well-meaning people. When life hurts, we often feel pressure--from others and ourselves--to keep it together, suck it up, or pray it away. But Scripture reveals a God who lovingly invites us to give honest voice to our emotions when life hits hard. For most of her life, Esther Fleece Allen believed she could bypass the painful emotions of her broken past by shutting them down altogether. She was known as an achiever and an overcomer on the fast track to success. But in silencing her pain, she robbed herself of the opportunity to be healed. Maybe you've done the same. Esther's journey into healing began when she discovered that God has given us a real-world way to deal with raw emotions and an alternative to the coping mechanisms that end up causing more pain. It's called lament--the gut-level, honest prayer that God never ignores, never silences, and never wastes. No More Faking Fine is your permission to lament, taking you on a journey down the unexpected pathway to true intimacy with God. Drawing from careful biblical study and hard-won insight, Esther reveals how to use God's own language to come closer to him as he leads us through our pain to the light on the other side, teaching you that: We are robbing ourselves of a divine mystery and a divine intimacy when we pretend to have it all together God does not expect us to be perfect; instead, he meets us where we are There is hope beyond your heartache, disappointment, and grief Like Esther, you'll soon find that when one person stops faking fine, it gives everyone else permission to do the same.

Using the illustration of the ancient process of gold refining, this discipleship journey ventures through the various stages of identity formation. Refining Identity is biblically-based and purposefully engages the Bible in abundance to help familiarize readers with lesser-known parts of God’s Word. Book excerpt: One of the most fundamental foundations of the Christian Life is Knowing who we were created to be in Christ. Our identity is the most important part of the believer's Walk. Without a sense of identity we can never truly Walk In our God ordained destiny. God preordained us before the foundation of the universe and chose us in Christ to be holy and seen as righteous in God's sight through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm is our inheritance as a child of God. No longer are we slaves but we are Sons and Daughters and part of God's family. This book is meant to be a road map in finding our true identity in Christ Jesus. The contents of this book are meant to encourage, exhort and build up the body of Christ into becoming their true selves as individuals and as an entire body. The body of Christ is made up of many members and each member has a particular function. Each individual is a unique member of the body of Christ and is meant to function in unity with one another without comparison. We each were created as unique individuals. No two individuals are exactly alike although we may have similar attributes. Individually we are all God's favorite child. We each are individually valuable and our lives have meaning. In learning our true identity in Christ, it opens up the door for God to reveal to us our purpose and destiny. We must each individually learn how valuable we are to God by recognizing that he gave to us the gift of Jesus the Messiah to us as a love offering to not only save us but to also empower us to manifest heaven on Earth.
