Download or read book Follow Me as I Follow Christ A Discipleship Curriculum written by Dr. T. Martin Flowers and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2024-06-13 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Follow Me as I Follow Christ” (FMIFC) is a curriculum designed to prepare young learners to lead based on Paul’s writings to Timothy in First and Second Timothy. The curriculum includes four modules, The Call of Leadership, Character of Leadership, Challenges of Leadership, and Charges to Leadership, which remind and inform the leader instructor while reforming and instructing the learner student. FMIFC uses Paul’s writings to Timothy to cultivate a learning environment of succession where mature leaders oversee the preparation of young learners to take their place. The FMIFC curriculum has as its foundation two concerns Paul had regarding Timothy – being a youthful leader (1 Tim. 4:12) and his ability to groom generational successors given their relationship (2 Tim. 2:2). The curriculum includes a workbook that allows the participants to work their way through critical passages, apply lessons learned, and connect Scripture with scholarly research. Many churches do not have a succession plan, nor are they making any preparations for the departure of their leadership. This curriculum will provide them with a tool for implementation. The foundational objectives for effectiveness emphasized in this course are: 1) For young learners to develop the confidence and competence required to lead a local church within two years; 2) For older leaders (instructors) to have a Pauline Development Guide to assess young learner development; and 3) For leaders to have the courage and content to hold other leaders accountable
Download or read book Follow the Master written by Paul Barreca and published by Paul Barreca. This book was released on 2017-02-26 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discipleship is fundamental to the Christian experience. Jesus called and trained his disciples and commissioned them to go and make disciples of others (Matthew 28:19-20). That command compels Christians today and is the primary task of the Church. This course is designed to help you fulfill Christ's call to -come and follow me- (Matthew 16:24). These 34 lessons provide the foundational beliefs and behaviors of a mature disciple. Even though this course was created for new Christians, those who have not been intentionally discipled will grow through these lessons. You can use this as a foundation for your own personal Bible study or better yet, study with another Christian or in a group of fellow believers to grow in your knowledge of the Bible and live as mature disciples of Jesus.

Wright’s popular Following Jesus -- first published in 1995 -- includes a new preface in which Wright reflects on the book’s origin and significance for him personally and on its continued relevance to believers even though our global context has changed. Wright first outlines the essential messages of six major New Testament books -- Hebrews, Colossians, Matthew, John, Mark, and Revelation -- looking in particular at their portrayal of Jesus and what he accomplished in his sacrificial death. In the second part of the book Wright takes six key New Testament themes — resurrection, rebirth, temptation, hell, heaven, and new life in a new world — and considers their significance for the lives of present-day disciples.

Download or read book That You May Know written by Jacob Gerber and published by 19baskets, Incorporated. This book was released on 2014-10-02 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While there are many books written about Christian discipleship, there are not nearly enough books on discipleship that primarily expound the Bible itself. The Apostle John wrote three letters, however, with the main purpose of helping disciples to grow. That You May Know: A Primer on Christian Discipleship is an enriching study that will lead you through John's teaching on following Jesus as a disciple. This book is more than a commentary and more than a topical book on the subject of Christian discipleship. Instead, this is a primer on Christian discipleship written as a careful reading of God's word in 1, 2 & 3 John. It's ideal for your own individual devotional reading or as a helpful resource for your group Bible study. What others are saying about That You May Know: "Whether you are a new believer or a seasoned saint, you will benefit greatly from reading this book. It does exactly what a Bible commentary should do--enlighten, encourage, and enrich--and it does so in a manner that is clear, wise, and practical." --Warren W. Wiersbe, Former Pastor of the Moody Church, Chicago, IL "Pastor Gerber marries thorough exegetical study with a loving pastoral tone in this very helpful primer on discipleship. He carries the reader along with him to a deeper understanding of the word of God, the promises God makes to his children, and what it means to be a disciples of Jesus." --Parker Johnson, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Brewton, AL

Download or read book DiscipleShift written by Jim Putman and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2013-04-23 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Question: What is the God-given purpose of the local church? Answer: Relational discipleship. DiscipleShift walks you through five key "shifts" that churches must make to refocus on the fundamental biblical mission of discipleship. These intentional changes will attract the world and empower your church members to be salt and light in their communities. Over the last thirty years, many influential church leaders and church planters in America have adopted various models for reaching unchurched people. While many of these approaches have merit, something is still missing, something even more fundamental to the mission of the church: discipleship. Making disciples—helping people to trust and follow Jesus—is the church's God-given mandate. Devoted disciples attract people outside the church because of the change others see in their Christ-like lives. And discipleship empowers Christians to be more like Christ as they intentionally develop relationships with non-believers. Through biblical and professional insights, Jim Putman and Bobby Harrington discuss the transformational effectiveness of making disciples and just how to do so, in practical terms. You’ll learn: The specific roles of a disciple-making pastor. The components of person-to-person discipleship. How each ministry in your church leads to discipleship. How to implement discipleship in your church. Disciple-making leaders will not produce perfect churches, but they will create effective churches.

Download or read book Into His Likeness written by Edward Sri and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2018-07-01 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the ancient disciple-rabbi relationship, the disciple would follow the rabbi so closely that he would be covered in the dust kicked up from his rabbi's feet. Thousands of years later, though we walk on roads of pavement and not dust, we are still called to be disciples—to follow our Rabbi, Jesus Christ, so closely that we are covered with his life, changed, and made new. Into His Likeness provides an approachable but in-depth exploration of how to live as a disciple and experience the transformation Jesus wants to work in our lives. We might desire to live more like Christ, but we know we fall short. This book simply helps us follow those initial promptings of the Holy Spirit, so that we may more intentionally encounter Jesus anew each day and be more disposed to his grace changing us ever more into his likeness.
Download or read book Follow Me written by Mark Zhakevich and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2020-12-14 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel of John heralds a unique call to discipleship. Unlike any other Gospel, the Fourth Gospel offers a multitude of benefits for following Jesus. John promises that discipleship is rewarded with adoption by the Father, royal friendship with the Son, and abiding with the Father and the Son through the Spirit. Nearly two dozen additional benefits fall under these three main categories as John persuades his readers to continuous belief in Jesus. Follow Me: The Benefits of Discipleship in the Gospel of John traces these rewards as incentives for disciples to remain loyal to Jesus in the context of hostility and opposition, in all times and all places, no matter the cost.
