Book Miniature Fluidic Devices for Rapid Biological Detection

Download or read book Miniature Fluidic Devices for Rapid Biological Detection written by Sang-Hyun Oh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-23 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an overview of fundamental aspects of surface-based biosensors and techniques for enhancing their detection sensitivity and speed. It focuses on rapid detection using miniaturized sensors and describes the physical principles of nanoscale transducers, surface modifications, microfluidics and reaction engineering, diffusion and kinetics. A key challenge in the field of bioanalytical sensors is the rapid delivery of target biomolecules to the sensing surface. While various nanostructures have shown great promise in sensitive detection, diffusion-limited binding of analyte molecules remains a fundamental problem. Recently, many researchers have put forward novel schemes to overcome this challenge, such as nanopore channels, electrokinetics, and dielectrophoresis, to name but a few. This book provides the readers an up-to-date account on these technological advances.

Book Fluidic Components and Equipment 1968 9

Download or read book Fluidic Components and Equipment 1968 9 written by G.W.A. Dummer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 860 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluidic Components and Equipment 1968—9 presents information on a wide range of fluidic components, systems, techniques, and equipment. A few of the many ways in which fluid interaction can be utilized to perform useful functions are explained, and typical elements, circuits, and systems are described. This book is comprised of six sections and opens with an overview of the fundamentals of fluidic devices, including their four basic functional component parts: power source, receiver, control input, and control region. The next section presents several of the major areas that must be considered in developing functional networks from individual elements, including noise considerations in signal amplification, impedance matching for maximum momentum transfer, and circuit techniques for temperature and pressure tolerance. Pulse elements and circuits are then described, giving examples of how various digital functions can be implemented using jet wall-attachment elements. The remaining sections discuss jet beam deflection, confined-jet amplifiers, and vortex amplifiers, along with some practical applications of fluidic devices and principles. This monograph will be a valuable resource for engineers active or interested in acquiring data on the techniques and equipment used in fluidics.

Book Micro and Nanoscale Fluid Mechanics

Download or read book Micro and Nanoscale Fluid Mechanics written by Brian J. Kirby and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-07-26 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text focuses on the physics of fluid transport in micro- and nanofabricated liquid-phase systems, with consideration of gas bubbles, solid particles, and macromolecules. This text was designed with the goal of bringing together several areas that are often taught separately - namely, fluid mechanics, electrodynamics, and interfacial chemistry and electrochemistry - with a focused goal of preparing the modern microfluidics researcher to analyse and model continuum fluid mechanical systems encountered when working with micro- and nanofabricated devices. This text serves as a useful reference for practising researchers but is designed primarily for classroom instruction. Worked sample problems are included throughout to assist the student, and exercises at the end of each chapter help facilitate class learning.

Book Design Theory of Fluidic Components

Download or read book Design Theory of Fluidic Components written by Joseph M. Kirshner and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design Theory of Fluidic Components is an 11-chapter text that discusses the most pertinent results of fluidics research and in closely related fields. After providing an overview of the basic components and design theory of fluidics, this book goes on exploring the passive fluid components and the theory of jets. The following chapters specifically deal with the factors that give rise to lumped resistance, capacitance, and inductance, as well as the fluid transients in lines. These topics are followed by discussions on various jet velocity distributions and a simplified theory of motion of jets in a pressure gradient. The remaining six chapters are devoted to the active fluidic components, and begin with an examination of the characteristic curves that are necessary to describe the performance of the active components. These chapters also cover the extent to which the performance of specific fluidic components can be predicted analytically. This book is of great value to fluidic research engineers and graduate mechanical engineering students.

Download or read book Physical Fluid Dynamics written by D. J. Tritton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To classify a book as 'experimental' rather than 'theoretical' or as 'pure' rather than 'applied' is liable to imply umeal distinctions. Nevertheless, some Classification is necessary to teIl the potential reader whether the book is for him. In this spirit, this book may be said to treat fluid dynamies as a branch of physics, rather than as a branch of applied mathematics or of engineering. I have often heard expressions of the need for such a book, and certainly I have feIt it in my own teaching. I have written it primariIy for students of physics and of physics-based applied science, aIthough I hope others may find it useful. The book differs from existing 'fundamental' books in placing much greater emphasis on what we know through laboratory experiments and their physical interpretation and less on the mathe matieal formalism. It differs from existing 'applied' books in that the choice of topics has been made for the insight they give into the behaviour of fluids in motion rather than for their practical importance. There are differences also from many existing books on fluid dynamics in the branches treated, reflecting to some extent shifts of interest in reeent years. In particular, geophysical and astrophysical applications have prompted important fundamental developments in topics such as conveetion, stratified flow, and the dynamics of rotating fluids. These developments have hitherto been reflected in the contents of textbooks only to a limited extent.
