Book Fluid Transients and Pipeline Optimization Using Genetic Algorithms

Download or read book Fluid Transients and Pipeline Optimization Using Genetic Algorithms written by Zhiqiang Zhang and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Millions of dollars are spent each year on water distribution systems. Pipe optimization techniques provide an opportunity for potential savings in costs for water supply systems. These optimization techniques include linear programming, non-linear programming, dynamic programming, enumerative approaches, and genetic algorithms. The former four techniques have been applied to pipe network optimization in the research literature over the last 20 years or so. Genetic algorithms provide a new approach to pipe network optimization. Details of this method are considered in this thesis. A global cost analysis of each component in a water supply system is carried out of the genetic algorithm in order to assess the form of the objective function. Traditionally, the analysis an pipeline systems has focused on the steady state. In the current work, a genetic algorithm optimization model, which uses a probabilistic search procedure that emulates Darwinian natural selection, is coupled with a transient hydraulic simulation model to generate and evaluate trial pipe network designs in search of an optimal solution. A new and powerful penalty function is also developed for pressure violations distinguishing steady state and transient conditions. The genetic algorithm search is applied to a case study which demonstrates its flexibility and the opportunity for significant cost saving offered by this method.

Book Hydraulics of Pipeline Systems

Download or read book Hydraulics of Pipeline Systems written by Bruce E. Larock and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-09-28 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first of its kind, this modern, comprehensive text covers both analysis and design of piping systems. The authors begin with a review of basic hydraulic principles, with emphasis on their use in pumped pipelines, manifolds, and the analysis and design of large pipe networks. After the reader obtains an understanding of how these principles are implemented in computer solutions for steady state problems, the focus then turns to unsteady hydraulics. These are covered at three levels:

Book Hydraulic Machinery and Cavitation

Download or read book Hydraulic Machinery and Cavitation written by Enrique Cabrera and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-02-27 with total page 1210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydraulic machinery such as turbines and pumps is widely used around the world. Related topics concerning design, operation and maintenance are of relevant interest. In this context, cavitation is a phenomenon to be taken into account, and this was treated in the XVIII IAHR Symposium on Hydraulic Machinery and Cavitation which took place in Valencia, Spain, 16th-19th September, 1996 and which was hosted by the Polytechnic University of Valencia. The proceedings of the Symposium have been published in two volumes. In this first volume, the papers included cover the following topics: Hydraulic Turbines, Analysis and Design Hydraulic Pumps Hydraulic Elements, Dynamic Characterization and Hydraulic Behaviour Cavitation and Sand Erosion In the second volume, the papers included cover the following topics: Hydraulic Transients and Control Systems Related to Hydraulic Machinery and Plants Oscillatory and Vibration Problems in Hydraulic Machinery and Power Stations Experimental Investigations related to Hydraulic Machinery and its Applications Practical Applications of the Hydraulic Machinery Monitoring, Predictive Maintenance and Refurbishment The 119 papers presented at the Symposium, from research groups, consulting companies and manufacturers, constitute an important collection for investigators, engineers and technicians who are interested in updated information on hydraulic machinery. This book is intended to be a reference text comprising the latest innovations on this subject.

Book Water Hammer in Pipe Line Systems

Download or read book Water Hammer in Pipe Line Systems written by J. Záruba and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1993-05-05 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physical principles of water hammer are explained in this volume. The basic mathematical methods of solution of water hammer and ways of limiting its effects are covered. Detailed description is given of the method of characteristics and the corresponding programs for personal computers, which enables solution of water hammer in a wide variety of hydraulic systems encountered in practice. Examples are given of solution of water hammer of common pipe-line systems as well as calculation of the steady state of flow, the determination of discharge through a pipe-line, measurements of characteristics of valves, pumps, turbines, determination of the operating régime of a valve in order to ensure a desired pressure and discharge curve, etc. This book will be of interest to those civil, mechanical and petroleum engineers dealing with the design and operation of hydraulic systems.

Book Analysis and Modelling of Non Steady Flow in Pipe and Channel Networks

Download or read book Analysis and Modelling of Non Steady Flow in Pipe and Channel Networks written by Vinko Jovic and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis and Modelling of Non-Steady Flow in Pipe and Channel Networks deals with flows in pipes and channel networks from the standpoints of hydraulics and modelling techniques and methods. These engineering problems occur in the course of the design and construction of hydroenergy plants, water-supply and other systems. In this book, the author presents his experience in solving these problems from the early 1970s to the present day. During this period new methods of solving hydraulic problems have evolved, due to the development of computers and numerical methods. This book is accompanied by a website which hosts the author's software package, Simpip (an abbreviation of simulation of pipe flow) for solving non-steady pipe flow using the finite element method. The program also covers flows in channels. The book presents the numerical core of the SimpipCore program (written in Fortran). Key features: Presents the theory and practice of modelling different flows in hydraulic networks Takes a systematic approach and addresses the topic from the fundamentals Presents numerical solutions based on finite element analysis Accompanied by a website hosting supporting material including the SimpipCore project as a standalone program Analysis and Modelling of Non-Steady Flow in Pipe and Channel Networks is an ideal reference book for engineers, practitioners and graduate students across engineering disciplines.
