Book Fluid Bed Incineration of Petroleum Refinery Wastes

Download or read book Fluid Bed Incineration of Petroleum Refinery Wastes written by Herbert E. Simons and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The applicability of the fluid bed incineration process for the disposal of petroleum refinery generated spent caustic and oily sludge in a commercial scale unit has been demonstrated. Operating problems have been studied. Design and operating procedural changes are suggested. The major process limitation stems from the loss of bed fluidity due to high particle size growth rate. particle size growth rate is directly proportional to the particle diameter and rate of dissolved solid material charged and inversely proportional to the mass of material in the bed. The average particle diameter can be controlled by (1) collecting and continuously returning fine material to the bed (2) utilizing an effective attriting system and (3) limiting superficial space velocity to avoid elutriation of fines. This report was submitted in fulfillment of Project #12050 EKT under the Water Quality Administration." -- page iii and page 113

Book Waste Incineration Handbook

Download or read book Waste Incineration Handbook written by Paul Cheremisinoff and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Waste Incineration Handbook discusses the basic concepts and data on wastes combustion, including the management of waste incineration as a means to control pollution, as well as the process technologies involved. The book reviews the combustion principles such as fuel-to-air ratio, the products of combustion, material and thermal balances. Incineration produces emissions in the form of particulate matter, odorous or noxious gases. Conventional particle capturing devices use gravity settling, inertia or momentum, filtration or electrostatic precipitation, and agglomeration via sonic mechanical means to facilitate removal by increasing particle size. Secondary combustion with or without catalysts, and wet scrubbing control are methods to control or eliminate objectionable odors. The design and operation of an efficient incinerator is based on proper proportions of air and fuel; sufficient temperature; adequate furnace volume; constant maintenance of ignition temperatures; and minimized fly-ash entrainment. The text also discusses on-site incineration and incineration at sea. The book is suitable for economists, environmentalists, ecologists, marine ecologists, and policy makers involved in environmental preservation and pollution control.

Book Environmental Aspects of Fluidized bed Combustion of Refinery generated Waste Fuels

Download or read book Environmental Aspects of Fluidized bed Combustion of Refinery generated Waste Fuels written by A. Luckos and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Refuse derived fuels (RDF) such as pitches and cokes, generated during processing of crude oils, contain mostly crude oil metals and sulphur, and therefore require special consideration for further use. Currently these RDFs are being stockpiled because their combustion using conventional technology is problematic. However, stockpiling is unlikely to be an acceptable long-term form of disposal due to increasingly stringent environmental legislation.^L^LFluidized-bed combustion (FBC) is a proven technology for disposing of a wide variety of fossil fuels, biomass and waste materials in an environmentally acceptable manner. Fluidized-bed boilers are well-suited to unreactive, high-sulphur RDFs such as pitches and petroleum cokes from heavy-oil upgrading processes. They are also capable of combusting various refinery waste sludges and gases which, when funnelled to a single unit, may offer additional economic advantages to refineries.^L^LThis paper describes tests carried out in the University of British Columbia's 152x152 mm circulating fluidized-bed pilot plant burning CANMET pitch and Conoco delayed coke. The main objective of these tests was to investigate the influence of operating conditions on combustion efficiency, pollutant emissions and the fate of the heavy metals during combustion. Proximate and ultimate analyses of tested waste fuels are given in Table 1. A full description of the experimental facility, operating conditions and results obtained are presented by Grace ^Iet al^R. (1989), Brereton ^Iet al^R. (1991) Legros ^Iet al^R. (1991) and Brereton ^Iet al^R. (1995).
