Book excerpt: Excerpt from Flores del Yermo, Pasmo de Egipto, Asombro del Mundo, Sol del Occidente, Portento de la Gracia, Vida y Milagros del Grande San Antonio Abad La Provincia de Egipto está situada, según dice Plinio, en el Asia mayor, y muy conjunta con el Oriente y última Región del Africa, dívídíse en dos partes: una se llama la inferior de Egipto, en la cual está fundada la gran Ciudad de Alejandría La otra es la superior Egipto, donde fué la antigua y grande Ciudad de Babilonia y la famosa Ciudad de Thebas, cuya cer ca tenía cien puertas, y por ser esta ciudad tan principal, se llamó toda aquella Región Thebayda, la cual se estiende á la parte del Mediodía, y conñna conla Etiopía, pero no está tan junta que no haya entre la Thebayda y la Etiopia grandes montes y desiertos de casi veinte días de camino, porque esto tiene Egipto, que para pasará otra Provincia, 6 está enmedio la mar 6 grandes despoblados y arenales; y aunque es común 51 toda aquella tierra tener muchos montes y de'siertos, losma yores que hay y de menos comodidad para la vida humana, son los que están entre Etiopía y la superior Thebayda, por que el calor es excesivo y la tierra toda es arenosa con unos pequeños valles y cerros, en los cuales escribe el Maestro Suá rez, que moró lo más de su vida nuestro Padre S.
