Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dominant trees of Australia, eucalypts make up a remarkable genus. This authoritative volume provides current reviews by active researchers of many disciplines, including evolutionary history, genetics, distribution and modelling, the relationship of eucalypts to fire and nutrients, ecophysiology, pollination and reproductive ecology, interactions between eucalypts and other co-existing biota (including fungi, invertebrates and vertebrates), and conservation and management. Together these reviews shed light on the reasons for the great success of eucalypts in Australian environments, and provide a comprehensive summary for comparison with the ecology of major woody plant genera in other continents. This volume is of particular relevance to Australian ecologists, but also provides a stimulating perspective to students of vegetation ecology in all continents.

Book Flora of the Hunter Region

Download or read book Flora of the Hunter Region written by Stephen Bell and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2019-03-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hunter Region, between the Hawkesbury and Manning rivers in eastern New South Wales, hosts a rich diversity of vegetation, with many species found nowhere else. Spanning an area from the coast to the tablelands and slopes, its rainforests, wet and dry sclerophyll forests, woodlands, heathlands, grasslands and swamps are known for their beauty and ecological significance. Flora of the Hunter Region describes 54 endemic trees and large shrubs, combining art and science in a manner rarely seen in botanical identification guides. Species accounts provide information on distribution, habitat, flowering, key diagnostic features and conservation status, along with complete taxonomic descriptions. Each account includes stunning botanical illustrations produced by graduates of the University of Newcastle's Bachelor of Natural History Illustration program. The illustrations depict key diagnostic features and allow complete identification of each species. This publication will be a valuable resource for those interested in the plants of the region, including researchers, environmental consultants, horticulturalists and gardeners, bush walkers, herbaria, and others involved in land management.

Nutrition of Eucalypts provides a comprehensive survey of nutritional ecology of eucalypts in their natural environment and in plantations. The authors, who are all at the forefront of research and development in their fields, are from the various eucalypt growing regions including Brazil, India, China, Spain and Australia. Their text aims at a state-of-the-art presentation. The book includes a key and descriptions for recognising nutrient deficiencies in eucalypts.

Book Genetics Genomics and Breeding of Eucalypts

Download or read book Genetics Genomics and Breeding of Eucalypts written by Robert J. Henry and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eucalypts are used for the production of paper products, firewood, charcoal, potential feedstocks for bioenergy and biomaterials, as ornamentals and landscape trees, and in land rehabilitation. Eucalypt breeding is at an early stage with many plantings being only at the first stages of domestication. The relatively small genomes of these species make the application of molecular genetics approaches attractive. The application of modern genomics will accelerate the development of improved eucalypts for a wide range of uses. This book brings together diverse information on the genetics, genomics, and breeding of these important forest species.

Book Australian gall inducing scale insects on Eucalyptus revision of Opisthoscelis Schrader Coccoidea Eriococcidae and descriptions of a new genus and nine new species

Download or read book Australian gall inducing scale insects on Eucalyptus revision of Opisthoscelis Schrader Coccoidea Eriococcidae and descriptions of a new genus and nine new species written by Nate B. Hardy and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2010-09-24 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two most species-rich radiations of gall-inducing eriococcids are parasites of Eucalyptus: (1) the genus Apiomorpha R?bsaamen (ca 40 described species and many undescribed cryptic species), and (2) a monophyletic group composed of species currently placed in the genera Lachnodius Maskell, Opisthoscelis Schrader, Sphaerococcopsis Cockerell, Fragorbis Hardy and Gullan and Floracoccus Beardsley (ca 30 described species). We revise the genus Opisthoscelis Schrader, and erect the genus Tanyscelis gen. n. with Opisthoscelis pisiformis Froggatt as its type species. As a result of our taxonomic revision, Opisthoscelis has six species and Tanyscelis has 12 species. We describe the adult female and female gall of each species and galls of males for 10 species of Opisthoscelis and Tanyscelis, and provide photographs of the galls for most species. A key to the adult females of the species of both genera is included.

Book Diseases and Pathogens of Eucalypts

Download or read book Diseases and Pathogens of Eucalypts written by PJ Keane and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2000-10-25 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last fifty years, there has been an increasing recognition that eucalypts are vulnerable to a wide range of diseases. They have suffered destructive epidemics, particularly of dieback caused by the cinnamon fungus in native forests, of foliar diseases and cankers in plantations, and of dieback of remnant trees on agricultural and grazing land. This has stimulated intensive research into the causes and management of diseases of the eucalypts. This work represents a comprehensive review of our current knowledge of the health and diseases of eucalypts.
