Book excerpt: With Amy Herman’s Fixed., we now have access to what the FBI, NATO, the State Department, Interpol, Scotland Yard, and many more organizations and their leaders have been using to solve their most intractable problems. Demonstrating a powerful paradigm shift for finding solutions, Herman teaches us to see things differently, using art to challenge our default thinking and open up possibilities otherwise overlooked. Her unexpected, insightful, and often delightful methodology is sought after by leaders and professionals for whom failure is catastrophic. Luckily for us, these tactics work— no matter the problem’s scale or complexity. And we don’t need an art degree or previous knowledge about art to benefit from her approach, only a willingness to open our eyes and our minds. Yes, things go wrong all the time. What matters most is what we do to fix them.

Download or read book Fixed It written by Jane Gilmore and published by Penguin Group Australia. This book was released on 2019-09-03 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On average, at least one woman is murdered by a current or former partner every week in Australia. Far too many Australian women have experienced physical or sexual violence. Only rarely do these women capture the attention of the media and the public. What can we do to stem the tide of violence and tragedy? Finally, we are starting to talk about this epidemic of gendered violence, but too often we are doing so in a way that can be clumsy and harmful. Victim blaming, passive voice and over-identification with abusers continue to be hallmarks of reporting on this issue. And, with newsrooms drastically cutting staff and resources, and new business models driven by rapid churn and the 24 hour news cycle journalists and editors often don't have the time or resources bring new ways of thinking into their newsrooms. Fixed It demonstrates the myths that we’re unconsciously sold about violence against women, and undercuts them in a clear and compelling way. This is a bold, powerful look at the stories we are told – and the stories we tell ourselves – about gender and power, and a call to action for all of us to think harder and do better.

Book Handbook of Topological Fixed Point Theory

Download or read book Handbook of Topological Fixed Point Theory written by Robert F. Brown and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-05 with total page 972 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first in the world literature presenting all new trends in topological fixed point theory. Until now all books connected to the topological fixed point theory were devoted only to some parts of this theory. This book will be especially useful for post-graduate students and researchers interested in the fixed point theory, particularly in topological methods in nonlinear analysis, differential equations and dynamical systems. The content is also likely to stimulate the interest of mathematical economists, population dynamics experts as well as theoretical physicists exploring the topological dynamics.

It is an essential work for mathematicians and graduate students in nonlinear analysis.

Book Homotopy Methods in Topological Fixed and Periodic Points Theory

Download or read book Homotopy Methods in Topological Fixed and Periodic Points Theory written by Jerzy Jezierski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-11-15 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The notion of a ?xed point plays a crucial role in numerous branches of mat- maticsand its applications. Informationabout the existence of such pointsis often the crucial argument in solving a problem. In particular, topological methods of ?xed point theory have been an increasing focus of interest over the last century. These topological methods of ?xed point theory are divided, roughly speaking, into two types. The ?rst type includes such as the Banach Contraction Principle where the assumptions on the space can be very mild but a small change of the map can remove the ?xed point. The second type, on the other hand, such as the Brouwer and Lefschetz Fixed Point Theorems, give the existence of a ?xed point not only for a given map but also for any its deformations. This book is an exposition of a part of the topological ?xed and periodic point theory, of this second type, based on the notions of Lefschetz and Nielsen numbers. Since both notions are homotopyinvariants, the deformationis used as an essential method, and the assertions of theorems typically state the existence of ?xed or periodic points for every map of the whole homotopy class, we refer to them as homotopy methods of the topological ?xed and periodic point theory.

Book excerpt: This book will empower you to get your feet functioning as they should do, without any medical intervention. Includes a 4-week plan of quick-and-easy exercises to get your feet back into shape, plus solutions for specific foot issues, from plantar fasciitis to fallen arches. This is a uniquely helpful and accessible guide to taking control of your own foot health by holistic heath innovator Yamuna Zake. We don't need doctors, orthotics or even surgery to relieve common foot problems, such as plantar fasciitis, bunions, neuromas, arthritis, hammertoes, and flat feet. By learning a correct gait that uses the entire foot to distribute weight, we can relieve and prevent common foot problems without any medical intervention. The book offers an easy-to-follow 4-week program of routines that take just 15 minutes a day during the program and allows readers to fix their feet and take ownership of their body. Each of the four weeks focuses on a different part of the foot: the heel, the arch, the ball and the toes. There are 3-4 exercises in each section and readers try them all and can choose to focus on those exercises in each section that they enjoy most. This programme is then supported with mindful foot practices to ensure bad habits don't return. Six common foot problems are also explored, including their causes (specific incorrect walking patterns) and ways of preventing and relieving them (exercises plus mindful practices). You won't find any medical concepts or terminology in this book, nor do you need to learn complicated foot anatomy. The whole program is based on what you already know: walking. You'll learn how to walk and stand correctly and to use every part of your feet as nature intended. That's all you need to do!
