Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Then Mum called out to me, “Rufus, wake up. Come quickly. We have to help someone.” I rubbed my eyes and ran to the door that Mum was holding open for me. She closed it behind me to keep the snakes out. “Bunjee, Poly,” Mum called out. The boys scrambled to get out of their kennels. They knew Mum was upset by the sound of her voice. Mum kneeled down in front of us and said, “Boys, listen to me. We have to help find Bina, the little girl who lives on the farm up the road. I heard her mummy on the radio saying Bina is lost in the bush, and she is asking people to come and search the bush for her. So we will go and find her footprints and the smell of her little body. We have to find her quickly before the night comes, and that will be soon.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poly barked, “Look up! Look up quickly!” We all looked up and saw three Rainbow Dreaming Spirits floating above us. They floated down to us and one of them said, “My name is Winbee, and these are Seewai and Djabu. Would anyone like to come and meet the whales?” Poly said “Not me, I don’t,” and Bunjee said, “I don’t want to fall into the ocean.” I was watching the Rainbow Dreaming Spirits when one of them said, “We are magic spirits, and we can put you into a magic bubble. You will be safe in there.” I asked, “Are you sure?” They said, “Yes, we are sure.” “OK,” I replied. “I will go and say hello to them.”

Book excerpt: The story is to encourage people to know, love and respect animals, all wildlife and the environment and our country. They may be wild bush animals or domesticated pets. The respect for each comes from kindness, daily engagement with the pet and love for them. They will give unconditional love and respect in return. The kindness should also extend to the wild animals if people live in rural or city areas where wild animals dwell close by. I am inspired by my love of animals and love of Homeland and Country. The unconditional love that an animal gives to you cannot be compared with love from people because in my opinion it is far greater. My grandmother also inspired me to be proud of who we are, we had animals, fish, birds and the environment as our Totems we lived peacefully with them. We had ceremonies for them to celebrate their lives. We lived off the land, Totemic practices helped us to ensure all creatures and animals were used for food, but there were limitation rules that saved Totems from extinction by Aboriginal people.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: **WINNER OF THE ELIZABETH LONGFORD PRIZE FOR HISTORICAL BIOGRAPHY 2012** The strange and fascinating story of the owner of the Titanic, J. Bruce Ismay, the man who jumped ship 'Beautifully written, and beautifully deconstructed' Sunday Times 'Wonderfully rich and multi-layered . . . Full of fascinating details . . . Every sentence crackles with intelligence' Mail on Sunday As the Titanic sinks on that fateful day in April 1912, a thousand men prepared to die. J. Bruce Ismay, the ship's owner and inheritor of the White Star fortune, however, jumps into a lifeboat with the women and children and rows away to safety. Publicly reviled as a coward, Ismay became, according to one headline, 'The Most Talked-of Man in the World' and the first victim of a press hate campaign. His reputation never recovered and while other survivors were piecing together their accounts, Ismay never spoke of his beloved ship again. With the help of that great narrator of the sea, Joseph Conrad, whose Lord Jim so uncannily foretold Ismay's fate, Frances Wilson explores the reasons behind Ismay's jump, his desperate need to make sense of the horror of it all, and to find a way of living with ignominy. Wilson's biography of Ismay depicts the indelible stain of public disrepute and a life led in the aftermath of seismic disaster.
Download or read book Unsung Ordinary Men written by Sally Dingo and published by Hachette Australia. This book was released on 2010-11-01 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After spending over three years in the horrific prisoner-of-war camps, including those along the Thai-Burma Railway, Sally Dingo's father Max was one of the fortunate ones: he came home. And yet, like most of the 22,000 Australian POWs of the Japanese, he would not, or could not, talk about what happened with those closest to him. It is also the story of Max's father Mort, who had served in World War I, the story of Max's cobbers - the perhaps unique community of ex-POWs who kept each other going - and the story of the mothers, wives and children who tried to understand what their men were still going through, decades later. This is the story of men, unsung and ordinary, who defended their country and were reluctant to tell the tale.
