Book excerpt: Furunculosis: Multidisciplinary Fish Disease Research presents a fascinating insight into the opinions and the controversies which have led to current knowledge of this disease. It is the first book to cover one single fish disease by presenting not just the reviews, but also critical examination of the progress made by various disciplines. The multidisciplinary approach of the book makes it a valuable guide for veterinarians, fisheries biologists, and fish farm managers, as well as an excellent instructional text for students. The volume explores current research strategies and projects what developments can be expected in each field. Considers the whole disease and not just the pathogen, Aeromonas salmonicida Analyzes the state of modern knowledge on the disease Suggests topics for future research and uses furunculosis as a model for other diseases Highlights and summarizes each section's themes and concepts Presents a unique compendium of research information for all professionals working on furunculosis

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised edition fills the need for an up-to-date comprehensive book on the biological aspects of the bacterial taxa which cause disease in fish. Since the 3rd edition was published in 1999, much has changed in the control of disease of farmed and wild fish. This book analyses all the new information, including that on new pathogens and new developments on long established diseases, such as furunculosis and vibriosis. Consideration is given to all of the bacterial taxa which have at some time been reported as fish pathogens, whether they are secondary invaders of already damaged tissue or serious, primary pathogens.

Book Oxytetracycline Efficacy as a Treatment for Furunculosis in Coho Salmon

Download or read book Oxytetracycline Efficacy as a Treatment for Furunculosis in Coho Salmon written by Donald F. Amend and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coho salmon were infected with Aeromonas salmonicida (furunculosis) and treated with oxytetracycline at different stages of disease severity to determine the drug efficacy. The disease was controlled but the degree of control depended on when treatment started. The longer treatment was delayed after infection, the less effective was the treatment. However, it was concluded that feeding 3.5 gm oxytetracycline per 100 pounds of fish per day for 10 days was an effective way of controlling furunculosis in coho salmon.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The economic importance of bacterial fish diseases and the increased understanding of the taxonomy and pathology of fish that has occurred during the last ten years, has resulted in this completely revised and updated edition of Biological Fish Pathogens, first published in 1987. The book provides comprehensive coverage of bacterial fish pathogens and, crucially, diagnostic methods of identification and techniques for isolating those pathogens. The authors also discuss methods used to control bacterial fish diseases, and consider possible future trends in the study of pathogens. Finally, they review the emerging role of fish pathogens in human diseases. The book will be welcomed by practising aquaculturists, veterinary microbiologists, researchers in industry and in academia. It is an essential reference work for graduate and post-graduate students working in the areas of fish health.

Book Bacterial Fish Diseases

Download or read book Bacterial Fish Diseases written by Gowhar Hamid Dar and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2022-03-24 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bacterial Fish Diseases: Environmental and Economic Constraints will be useful for researchers and academics who need to understand the nature and consequences of bacteria-related disease in fishes. It has in-depth information on the complete genome of various bacterial species and identifies an essential number of virulence genes that affect the pathogenic potential of the bacteria in fish. Users will find the most relevant information derived from the available bacterial genomes concerning virulence and the diverse virulence factors that actively participate in host adherence, colonization and infection, including structural components, extracellular factors, secretion systems, iron acquisition and quorum sensing mechanisms. This reference is beneficial for understanding economic losses due to bacterial pathogens in fish fauna and its impact on the economy. It addition, it provides information on good aquaculture practices and how to scientifically manage aquaculture and fishery sectors. Presents bacteria-related diseases in fish species, highlighting problems associated with the culturing of fish Discusses pollution contamination in freshwater ecosystems to provide insights into the sustainable management of fish species Provides fundamental research concepts of fish health, along with practical research methods

Book Health Maintenance of Cultured Fishes

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The text concentrates on the infectious viral and bacterial diseases that are most prevalent in aquaculture. Although much information has been derived from North American studies, important diseaase problems from other parts of the world are included. Also, where applicable, the influence of the various diseases on wild populations has been included. This book is intended for students and scientists who are interested in health maintenance of aquatic animals, aquatic pathobiology, and infectious diseases of fin fish. Hopefully, it will be used as a text for beginning fish pathologists and as a reference source for those of broader experience.
