Book Fish Assemblages in Rockweed Ascophyllum Nodosum L Le Jolis Beds on the Atlantic Coast of Nova Scotia Canada

Download or read book Fish Assemblages in Rockweed Ascophyllum Nodosum L Le Jolis Beds on the Atlantic Coast of Nova Scotia Canada written by Bénédikte Vercaemer and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Field surveys were conducted in 2015 and 2016 at four sites on the Atlantic Coast of Nova Scotia to determine fish diversity and species-specific fish density and size in rockweed (Ascophyllum nodosum) beds and associated bare habitats. Fish assemblages were sampled biweekly during the day between May and September using visual snorkel transects. This study provides new data that allows estimation of fisheries production by the Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) Fisheries Protection Program, and in general contributes to enhancing the understanding of nearshore ecosystem functioning.--Includes text from document.

Book The Impact of the Rockweed Harvest on the Habitat of Southwest New Brunswick

Download or read book The Impact of the Rockweed Harvest on the Habitat of Southwest New Brunswick written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rockweed is the dominant brown seaweed in the intertidal zone along the Atlantic coastline of the Maritime Provinces. A pilot-scale harvest of rockweed began in 1995 off the coast of south-west New Brunswick. This bulletin reviews the scale & extent of the current harvest, the status of the rockweed resource, and the potential impacts of rockweed harvest on intertidal habitat structure, eider & other waterfowl, fish, and invertebrates. It then discusses whether the rockweed harvest management plan should be renewed and whether the current harvest rate is still appropriate.

This book was released on 2003 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The EAISSNA database contains information on location and time of spawning, and abundance and distribution of eggs and larvae of marine fish on the Scotian Shelf of North America. 197 scientific publications from 1919 to 2001 were reviewed and original analysis conducted on datasets from Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) Scotian Shelf Ichthyoplankton Program (SSIP) and Fisheries Ecology Program (FEP) for 1976-82 from data archives, providing infonnation on 107 taxa of fish and invertebrates. The database is intended for use in environmental assessment and management activities associated with offshore hydrocarbon development and production and ocean management. Supporting maps and database tables, and possible enhancements and developments including standards based on World Wide Web (WWW) access are also described. The database was developed for and with funding from the Canadian Environmental Studies Research Funds (ESRF), an industry-government body that promotes research in support of hydrocarbon development of Canada's frontier lands. Compact Disks (CD) (report, lists, maps and data) can be obtained from the authors

This book was released on 1990 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contains an assessment conducted with the objective of determining, from a commercial perspective, the availability of rockweed (Ascophyllum nodossum) in areas of south-western Nova Scotia. The assessment provides a snapshot of resources available in August 1990, with an idea of the potential for future harvests using current harvesting techniques. The information was collected by a 5-week field survey covering most productive sites as well as those areas not presently utilized.
