Book Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluid for Submarine Use

Download or read book Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluid for Submarine Use written by E. S. Blake and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synthesis and evaluation data on five chemical classes as possible base stocks for fire-resistant hydraulic fluids for submarines are reported. The classes are: substituted polyaromatic ethers; halogenated amines; omega, omega'-bis (halophenyl) alkanes; sulfones; and phosphoruscontaining compounds. They were evaluated for fire-resistance (as measured by autoignition temperature, 1300 F. molten metal test, flash-and fire points), thermal stability, fluid properties (including viscosity and fluid range), compatibility with alkyd base paints, O-ring Sealants and electrical conduit sheathing. (Author).

Book Water base Fire resistant Hydraulic Fluid for Submarines

Download or read book Water base Fire resistant Hydraulic Fluid for Submarines written by E. S. Blake and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Syntheses of over 40 phosphorus esters and ester salts and numerous intermediates are reported. The ability of organic phosphorus electrolytes, as water soluble pour-point depressants, to satisfy tentative specifications is characterized by measurements and comparisons of solubility, flammability (AIT, Flash, Fire), hydrolytic stability, sonic shear stability, compatibility with commercial thickeners (35), sea water, paint, Buna N, and corrosivity to eight metal alloys. Some flammability property comparisons of phosphorus compounds with compounds containing boron, nitrogen and sulfur are made. The study supports the premise that for the additive package of a water-base fluid to have an AIT>900 F, the thickener must also possess an AIT in the 900 F range.

Book Hydraulic Fluids for Use in High Pressure Shipboard Equipment

Download or read book Hydraulic Fluids for Use in High Pressure Shipboard Equipment written by J. A. Coil and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fire-resistant hydraulic fluid must be used in all Bureau of Ships hydraulic systems operating above 500 psi and containing an air accumulator. The Bureau of Ships has several years' experience with the phosphate ester type hydraulic fluid in elevators on aircraft carriers. This fluid, combined with suitable gaskets and seals, has given satisfactory service. Hydraulic systems on our new submarines are designed for 3000 psi. This high pressure places added requirements on the fluid. It must have not only the conventional properties of lubricity, stability, antifoam, and corrosion resistance; it must be thoroughly examined for any possible toxic effect upon ship's personnel. Toxicity is of utmost importance in light of present-day long periods of continuous submergence.

Book FLUIDS FOR SUBMARINE EXTERNAL HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS

Download or read book FLUIDS FOR SUBMARINE EXTERNAL HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS written by and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A successful search was made for petroleum-base hydraulic fluids with rust-inhibiting qualities adequate to prevent rusting in submarine hydraulic systems contaminated with seawater. Fluids of two types were found with considerably greater rust-inhibiting ability than currently used Navy hydraulic fluids. The type of fluid giving the better rust inhibition deviated from present hydraulic fluid specification requirements in that it emulsified readily with contaminating seawater, whereas the second type did not. Other necessary properties of both fluid types were satisfactory. Feasibility of using the emulsifying-type fluid in submarine hydraulic systems was shown by 1000 hr of satisfactory operation using a hydraulic system mock-up with full scale submarine system components in the presence of 10% sea-water contamination. Technical specification requirements for this type fluid were drawn up.

Book Hydraulic Fluids

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mariappa Radhakrishnan
  • Publisher : American Society of Mechanical Engineers
  • Release : 2003
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 304 pages

Download or read book Hydraulic Fluids written by Mariappa Radhakrishnan and published by American Society of Mechanical Engineers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydraulic fluids are the most widely consumed of all industrial lubricants. This book covers a broad range of issues that are important to engineers concerned with the selection, application, and maintenance of hydraulic fluids used in industrial machinery. The author provides a comprehensive and ready reference to various hydraulic fluid properties, such as biodegradability and fire resistance, as well as relevant hydraulic fluid test procedures. Also discussed are re-refining, reclamation, and disposal issues pertaining to used hydraulic fluids. This book is unique in that it brings together material that is currently not available from a single source, in a concise and useful format. A handy and useful guide for younger as well as more experienced practicing hydraulics and plant engineers, in addition to engineers in fluid power transmission and the mechanical engineering industries.

Book Hydraulic Fluids

Download or read book Hydraulic Fluids written by Peter Hodges and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 1996-06-28 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: * Reviews the development of modern hydraulic fluids* Discusses the application and selection of hydraulic fluids through the investigation of their physical and chemical properties related to the operational requirements.* Offers guidance on suitable maintenance routinesSince the first use of water as a hydraulic medium in the late 18th century, hydraulics has become an indispensable discipline of engineering science. Enormous technological advances have been made in the intervening years, but this has not been reflected in the available literature on the numerous fluids involved. Based on 40 years of experience with Shell in Norway, this reference text brings together a comprehensive coverage of the behaviour and selection of hydraulic fluids. It includes a full analysis of recent advances in synthetic oils - media which will inevitably become more dominant as natural products become more scarce.Hydraulic Fluids provides an overview that both students and professionals involved with hydraulics, whether concerned with the mechanical components or system design or selection and maintenance of the fluids themselves, will refer to again and again as it provides relevant information on all the major hydraulic fluids in a single volume.
