Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Five thousand years ago, a spaceship from far away mysteriously crash-lands on Earth. The crew senses an evil presence on the planet but, nevertheless, settles in. Since their ship is irreparable, and they have no communication with their home planet, they have no choice but to make Earth their new home. Eventually, the crew intermixes with the primitive natives of Earth. Three thousand years pass, and Sathel, the head of the Xerxes Galaxy, becomes intrigued by a phenomenon he has noticed occurring across the universethe occasional arrival of a messianic individual on a primitive planet, signaled by an unusual star. When such a signaling star is noted over Earth, he sends an investigatory expedition to find out more about this messiah, the fifteenth, according to his count. His instructions are for the investigators to enter the society incognito and observe the messiah as closely as possible and then report back. Enemies of Sathel send hostile forces to Earth at about the same time, and their goal is the destruction of the messiah. Toler is Sathels spy, and he is given one crew member, Sarn, a young man without any experience and totally ignorant of the nature of the expedition. Toler is angry at the apparent shortsightedness of Sathel but decides to go ahead with his mission. Toler and Sarn develop a close relationship as they meet up with the hostile forces from back home. Inevitably, they become involved with Earth people, including Aleah, an innocent young girl, and Mary Magdalene. At times they also all move among the disciples and interact with the messiah. They meet up with Lish, an eccentric solo investigator from back home, who has spent twenty years on Earth searching for evidence of the original crash landing three thousand years before. The hostile forces sent to sabotage the messiah become controlled by the evil force already inhabiting the planet. Toler and Sarn become instruments used by the good force embodied in the messiah. It becomes an epic battle of good versus evil. New Testament events are woven through the telling, bringing a new dimension to the saga of good versus evil, an age-old conflict of universal proportions. The story ends with Toler and Sarn returning to their home planet and confronting Sathel for having placed them in great peril on Earth. All is explained, except for one question.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A widely recognized principle of hermeneutics is to garner as much information as possible regarding what the text(s) under consideration meant to its/their original audience or readership. For a Western Christian three and a half millennia hence, this is perhaps more difficult than might be imagined. But the reward is worth the effort; the prize is worth the price. Typology is the study of types and antitypes, and features heavily in this work. As each item of furniture in the tabernacle in the wilderness is subject to analysis, their fulfillment in Christ and the practical application for believers of such fulfillment is thereby exposed. The journey for the reader begins where it ended for the majority under Moses' leadership: at the brazen altar. After bathing at the brazen laver, we are then allowed to join the priests as they undertake their duties in the Holy Place, attending the table of shewbread, the golden lampstand, and the altar of incense. We then accompany the high priest into the Most Holy Place and find out why we are now permitted to stand before the ark of the covenant. It is a journey of discovery and it will do you good (Num 10:29)!

Book The Bloomsbury Handbook of Food and Material Cultures

Download or read book The Bloomsbury Handbook of Food and Material Cultures written by Irina D. Mihalache and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-02-23 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cookbooks. Menus. Ingredients. Dishes. Pots. Kitchens. Markets. Museum exhibitions. These objects, representations, and environments are part of what the volume calls the material cultures of food. The book features leading scholars, professionals, and chefs who apply a material cultural perspective to consider two relatively unexplored questions: 1) What is the material culture of food? and 2) How are frameworks, concepts, and methods of material culture used in scholarly research and professional practice? This book acknowledges that materiality is historically and culturally specific (local), but also global, as food both transcends and collapses geographical and ideological borders. Contributors capture the malleability of food, its material environments and “stuff,” and its representations in media, museums, and marketing, while following food through cycles of production, circulation, and consumption. As many of the featured authors explore, food and its many material and immaterial manifestations not only reflect social issues, but also actively produce, preserve, and disrupt identities, communities, economic systems, and everyday social practices. The volume includes contributions from and interviews with a dynamic group of scholars, museum and information professionals, and chefs who represent diverse disciplines, such as communication studies, anthropology, history, American studies, folklore, and food studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Messianic Aleph Tav Scriptures (MATS) is a study bible which focuses on the study of the Aleph Tav character symbol used throughout the old testament (Tanakh) by both Moses and the Prophets and is the most exhaustive and unique rendition of its kind in the world. Over 5 years in the making, this English rendition reveals every place the Hebrew Aleph Tav symbol was used as a "free standing" character symbol believed to express the "strength of the covenant" in its original meaning. The Aleph Tav was believed also to be the "mark" of the "divine hand" for thousands of years by such famous rabbis as Nahum of Gimzo, Akiva, and R. S. Hirsch as well as the Apostle John. Also revealed in MATS is the use of the Aleph Tav as it is incorporated into the creation of hundreds of Hebrew words used thousands of times throughout the Tanakh and how the "mark" incorporates Y'shua haMashiach (Jesus the messiah), as well as all mankind and creation, which substantiates and expresses its divinity, thus taking our understanding of the scriptures to a whole new level. MATS comes in your choice of either Paleo or Modern Hebrew editions in a trim size of the regular 6"x9" or the large print edition 8.5"x11".

Book The Vanishing Messiah

Download or read book The Vanishing Messiah written by David N. Wetzel and published by University of Iowa Press. This book was released on 2016-06-01 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1895, an extraordinarily enigmatic faith healer emerged in the American West. An Alsatian immigrant and former cobbler, Francis Schlatter looked like popular depictions of Jesus, and it was said that his very touch could heal everything from migraines and arthritis to blindness and cancer. First in Albuquerque, and then in Denver, thousands flocked to him, hoping to receive his healing touch. Schlatter accepted no money for his work, behaved modestly, fasted heavily, and treated everyone, from wealthy socialites to impoverished immigrants, equally. He quickly captured national attention, and both the sick hoping to be cured and reporters hoping to expose a fraud hurried to Denver to see the celebrated healer. By November of 1895, it is estimated that Schlatter was treating thousands of people every day, and the neighborhood in which he was staying was overrun with the sick and lame, their families, reporters from across the country, and hucksters hoping to make a quick buck off the local attention. Then, one night, Schlatter simply vanished. Eighteen months later, his skeleton was reportedly found on a mountainside in Mexico’s Sierra Madre range, finally bringing Schlatter’s great healing ministry to an end. Or did it? Within hours of the announcement of Schlatter’s found remains, a long-haired man emerged in Cleveland to say that he was Francis Schlatter, and the next twenty-five years, several others claimed to be Denver’s great healer. In The Vanishing Messiah, a modern researcher painstakingly pieces together evidence from letters, newspaper reports, hospital records, mug shots, and published reminiscences of the healer to find out what really happened to Francis Schlatter after he left Denver in the middle of the night in November 1895. In doing so, David N. Wetzel uncovers a historical puzzle of lies, deception, and betrayal, and offers a tantalizing look into a nineteenth-century messiah and his twentieth-century reincarnations—one of whom may have been the healer himself.
