Book Finding a Quality Child Care Center Can Be Difficult Let Me Help

Download or read book Finding a Quality Child Care Center Can Be Difficult Let Me Help written by Jean White and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-03-11 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction I chose to write this book because of the pain I’ve seen in the heart of parents who have placed their child/children in child care centers that did not have the best interest of children at heart. These parents hurt deeply because they placed and even paid money on a weekly basis to have their child in a program that was not respecting the child. I like to call these programs child farms because their interest is not in helping to develop, grow, and nurture children but to make money off children. One mother could barely speak as she told me her story. She had asked her father to pick her son up from his family child care home and take him to the doctor. When the grandpa arrived, he knocked on the door, but nobody answered. He could hear babies inside the house crying, but it did not appear that anyone was inside caring for the children. Grandpa sat on the porch and waited for someone to come, all the while he could hear the babies inside crying. A while later the caregiver pulled up in the driveway with Wal-Mart bags in her hands. When grandpa told her whom he was there to pick up, she let him have the baby and did not even check his identification. He could have been anyone picking up that child. The mother set up a watch with the county police and the Department of Social Services for the next morning. Parents brought children into the home and left. About thirty minutes after the last child was dropped off, the caregiver came out of the house, locked the door, and got into her car. As she pulled out of her driveway, she was arrested. Parents were contacted to pick up their children. The caregiver was putting the children in their cribs and then leaving the house to go shopping and run errands. Another parent had her six-month infant get a broken arm. Another parent had her four-month infant die—death certificate said SIDS, but the child was dead for over two hours before anyone knew. These are scary stories, and there are many more. We’ve all seen these in the news, but I’ve personally sat face-to-face with some parents who have suffered through this devastating situation. Their common statement was “How does a parent know a good center from a child farm?” How does a parent know? And so it goes, I wrote the book. I hope this book will be useful to you as you begin to research child care programs for your child. Follow your heart. Look deep if it feels good. Leave and do not turn back if something makes you feel bad. Your feelings will be your best guide. As you tour programs, write notes in the note sections and try to complete the ratings as you feel them while you are touring a program. After touring several programs, the program-rating pages will help you to remember the qualities you liked best about each program. Remember, high-quality child care and education programs are difficult to get into. You will probably be put on a waiting list, so it is important to start your search for child care early. The earlier the better! I used to tell parents, “Call me when the stick turns blue.”

Book Finding Daycare

Download or read book Finding Daycare written by Tracy Cassels and published by . This book was released on 2019-03-14 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "It's just the same as all your stuff: thorough and sane and then, for me--because of the anthropological context you bring in--just a hell of a lot more interesting than other reading on the topic." David Epstein, bestselling author of The Sports GeneMost families will face the task of finding appropriate child care for their children. This is not a fun task and is made harder by the lack of high-quality care in most areas. This ebook is designed to help families navigate what is one of the most important yet least talked-about decisions they will make as parents. Serving as both information source and guide, this ebook covers the following areas to help parents find and transition their children to child care: * What are the options for care? So many times families think only about large centre-based daycares or home-based daycares, but there are other options that are available to some families. * What are the factors to consider when assessing a child care option? How safe is the environment? What do you even need to ask to find out how safe a given child care situation is? What about toys - are there too many or not enough? Do they go outside? In this book, I explore the three main areas to consider and what should be looked at in each: safety, environment, and quality of care.* How do you transition your child? As many parents will tell you, it's not as simple as just dropping your child off and hoping for the best. Knowing how your child transitions can help you make a plan to minimize the impact of the transition and make for a happier child care relationship in the long-term.* What does the research say about child care? So many different studies are out there, but what are the main points that we can take home? I summarize the research for you so you can better know what factors really matter and how you can apply these to your unique situation.* What if things go wrong? Sometimes things don't go as planned and you need to know the best way to handle these situations. I provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to handle difficult situations with care without getting too flustered or giving up.A short read packed with information, this ebook is for any parent who is facing the child care decision.

Book Work Life Balance Essential or Ephemeral

Download or read book Work Life Balance Essential or Ephemeral written by Andreas Schwingshackl and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2017-09-28 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Burn-out and suicide rates among physicians and scientists in academic medicine are at an all-time high and jeopardize the future of our entire profession. In the last 4 years alone, burn-out rates among physicians have increased by 25%. In a recent 2017 Medscape publication, burn-out rates in Critical Care physicians ranked in 9th place and Pediatricians ranked 13th among 27 subspecialties. Astonishingly, over 50% of the participants reported burn-out symptoms, with clear race and gender disparities. While men generally report higher burn-out rates than women, it is important to emphasize that response rates from women in these surveys were notoriously low and may not represent the complete picture. These numbers are even more dismal for tenured academic faculty at research-extensive universities. In this group, emotional exhaustion (i.e. high burn-out) is reported at 35% with a clear association with age and lower burn-out levels in the older tenured faculty. While no gender or racial/ethnic differences were found in this particular group, higher levels of burn-out were identified in individuals with financial responsibilities beyond a spouse and child. While it is comforting to note the increasing public interest and research activities in this field, successful approaches to ameliorate the burden and consequences of physician burn-out are still inadequately developed. Academic centers increasingly offer some type of work-life balance program to their employees but, unfortunately, these programs are frequently adopted from corporate business models and remain largely ineffective in the academic environment. It should be evident to most administrators that the stressors of academic clinicians and scientists substantially differ from those of corporate employees. Based on these observations and over 75 years of combined experience in academic medicine amongst the three editors of this Research Topic, we collected 26 manuscripts from 22 authors at different career stages and different genders, ethnicities, marital status and subspecialties to identify and stratify common and specific stressors and therapeutic approaches to ameliorate burn-out and achieve work-life balance in academic medicine. We are confident that each reader will identify with at least one, if not several, of the authors’ opinions, experiences and approaches to attain greater work-life balance and thereby avoid the consequences of burn-out in modern academic medicine.
