Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "...(a) tender novel that handles dementia with compassion and practicality through its story... with a Hallmark movie quality to characters' interactions... the story becomes a meaningful way to educate the audience about dementia." — FOREWORD CLARION REVIEWS Rose is delightful, flamboyant and a widow. Having just lost her husband, Rose's daughter steps in to find Rose increasingly disoriented and forgetful. Even as a nurse, Maureen does not recognize the early signs of her mother’s dementia - a diagnosis that changes her mother's life and those close to her. The contrast between the reality of Rose's condition and the "Casablanca Style" in which she lived is stark yet beautiful. The story follows Maureen and Rose as Maureen learns skills to open communication with her mother through her mother’s confusion, being open to stories from the past that may be new to her, how to work through being part of the Sandwich Generation and understanding family conflict arising from a dementia diagnosis. Through Maureen, you will learn practical skills to understand and communicate with someone with dementia at the early and middle stages. It gives insight into what it feels like to have dementia and how to answer difficult questions without using reality orientation or the therapeutic lie such as “Where is my husband?” when they have passed away – maybe a long time ago. It helps families understand they are not alone. This book parallels Still Alice's medical description of the illness but picks up where Still Alice leaves off. Finding Rose provides practical application for how to stay connected with your loved ones.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Once upon a time—before the 1860s—people loved old roses like "Pearl of Gold," "Marchionesse of Lorne," or "Autumn Damask." Then along came the hybrid tea roses, which were easier to arrange, more dramatic, and longer-blooming, and the old roses were all but forgotten. Now the lovely, subtle-hued, richly perfumed old roses are making a comeback, thanks to the efforts of a stubborn band of eccentric characters who rescued them from back alleys, ramshackle cottages, and overgrown graveyards across the country. Thomas Christopher tells us the fascinating stories of the old roses—how they were created and made their way to America—and the unforgettable people who "rustle" them from abandoned lots and secret gardens today, revelling in the mystery of an "unknown yellow."

Book Finding Rose

  • Author : John Morey
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2020-10-11
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 149 pages

Download or read book Finding Rose written by John Morey and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-11 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the Second Edition - revised and expanded with a new section. The author writes: "In the process of finalising a book prior to publication, the author needs to read it over and over again to polish it until he or she is satisfied that the reader will be satisfied with the final draft. In so doing and on each occasion, I found that certain sections still moved me to tears - but in a good way. With that in mind, I feel confident in recommending 'Finding Rose' and 'Rose: The Missing Years' to all lovers of romantic fiction." Each book in the series can be enjoyed individually, without having read any of the others. 'The Sign of the Rose' is the start of the saga but, ironically, was published last! Finding Rose is a quest, a mini-saga about a village lad meeting a beautiful gypsy girl and the obstacles they encounter as they strive to fulfill their common destinies. Discover how two people embark on a journey without knowing how, where, or with whom it will end. Will they survive as one? or apart? And what did happen in Rose's life in the seven missing years? Answers to that are in the next book but, meanwhile you might want to speculate during a fascinating read of this one. Perhaps you will discover your own story in theirs? If you do, why not compare yours with how they navigated their path through life? And if your own saga is only part-way run, you may find some wisdom here to help you - if you need it. There are no real answers here on how to deal with what life has thrown at you, just as no-one could really help John and Rose. Nobody knows the answers to all the questions concerning love and life. I certainly don't. Otherwise novels like this would never be written. But on this occasion you can be the judge. Author's Note: For those of you looking for a 'new adult' novel about two people overcoming their clashing cultures to find true love, then this is for you. I have never read 'Romeo and Juliet' (what an admission!), nor would I compare this story with that, but I do explore the complexities that often present themselves to late teens and twenties as they embark on life 'for real'. Romantic mysticism enters the lives of more people than we may care to admit. It does here, but without the trappings of horror or menace. Rose and John are, themselves, a benign force and, although their journey is not without sadness and heartache, their perseverance towards fulfilment remains undaunted. As with simpler journeys on the road or in life, it's what happens on the journey that intrigues and enriches, rather than the arrival at the destination.

Book excerpt: What happens when a former Zen Buddhist monk and his feminist wife experience an apparition of the Virgin Mary? “This book could not have come at a more auspicious time, and the message is mystical perfection, not to mention a courageous one. I adore this book.”—Caroline Myss, author of Anatomy of the Spirit Before a vision of a mysterious “Lady” invited Clark Strand and Perdita Finn to pray the rosary, they were not only uninterested in becoming Catholic but finished with institutional religion altogether. Their main spiritual concerns were the fate of the planet and the future of their children and grandchildren in an age of ecological collapse. But this Lady barely even referred to the Church and its proscriptions. Instead, she spoke of the miraculous power of the rosary to transform lives and heal the planet, and revealed the secrets she had hidden within the rosary’s prayers and mysteries—secrets of a past age when forests were the only cathedrals and people wove rose garlands for a Mother whose loving presence was as close as the ground beneath their feet. She told Strand and Finn: The rosary is My body, and My body is the body of the world. Your body is one with that body. What cause could there be for fear? Weaving together their own remarkable story of how they came to the rosary, their discoveries about the eco-feminist wisdom at the heart of this ancient devotion, and the life-changing revelations of the Lady herself, the authors reveal an ancestral path—available to everyone, religious or not—that returns us to the powerful healing rhythms of the natural world.

Detailed chapters address planting for wildlife by choosing native species; providing habitats that shelter baby animals, as well as birds, bees, and butterflies; creating safe zones in the garden; cohabiting with creatures often regarded as pests; letting nature be your garden designer; and encouraging natural processes and evolution in the garden. Book The Graham Stuart Thomas Rose Book

Download or read book The Graham Stuart Thomas Rose Book written by Graham Stuart Thomas and published by White Lion Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume comprises three books by Graham Stuart Thomas that have transformed our gardens, establishing him as one of the most influential gardeners of the 20th century. The Old Shrub Roses(1955) brought to public attention the favourite roses of the early 19th century: the intensely scented Damasks, the rich and sombre Gallicas and the Albas with their unique combination of elegance and thriftiness. Shrub Roses of Today (1962) identified the species and hybrids from Japan and North America, from English and Scottish hedgerows and from the mountains of China, full of virtues then unrecognized. Climbing Roses Old and New (1965) considered ramblers and climbers such as 'Adelaide d'Orleans' and 'Desprez a fleur jaune', now more than 150 years old but still incomparable. The Graham Stuart Thomas Rose Book brings the trilogy together, substantially revised and updated. New material has been added, practical advice is included on planting, general cultivation, pruning and display, and new photographs complement favourite illustrations from such masters as Redouté and Graham Stuart Thomas himself.

Download or read book The Rose Rustlers written by Greg Grant and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2017-09-11 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Rose Rustlers, Greg Grant and William C. Welch offer a personal, in-depth, and entertaining account of some of the great stories gathered during their years as participants in one of the most important plant-hunting efforts of the twentieth century—the quest to save antique roses that disappeared from the market in a notoriously trend-driven business. By the 1950s, almost exclusively, modern roses (those with one compact bloom at the top of a large stem) were grown for the cut-flower market. The large rounded shrubs and billowy fence climbers known to our grandparents and great-grandparents in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries had been reduced to this rather monotonous single style of plant. Yet those roses of old still grew, tough and persistent, in farmyards, cemeteries, vacant lots, and abandoned fields. The rediscovery of these antiques and the subsequent movement to conserve them became the mission of “rose rustlers,” dedicated rosarians who studied, sought, cut, and cultivated these hardy survivors. Here, the authors chronicle their own origins, adventures, and discoveries as part of a group dubbed the Texas Rose Rustlers. They present tales of the many efforts that have helped restore lost roses not only to residential gardens, but also to commercial and church landscapes in Texas. Their experiences and friendships with other figures in the heirloom rose world bring an insider’s perspective to the lore of “rustling,” the art of propagation, and the continued fascination with the world’s favorite flower.
