Download or read book Entrepreneurship and Employment in the Caribbean Community written by Don Charles and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-03-21 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trinidad and Tobago (T&T), Guyana, and Suriname, are Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Member States that are fortunate to be endowed with commercial reserves of hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbon revenues acquired by the respective governments can be used to fund the cost of several merit goods, amongst which the most commendable is the expenditure on education. This book’s objectives are threefold. The first is to examine the labour market in the hydrocarbon-rich CARICOM Member States. The second is the review of successful case studies of entrepreneurship in countries similar circumstances to the Caribbean. The third is to provide policy recommendations to address this employment problem in the hydrocarbon-rich CARICOM Member States. The policy recommendations of this book are useful for governments of mineral-rich countries, even outside of CARICOM. It provides lessons for policy makers to craft policy to encourage the right enabling environment for entrepreneurship and employment creation.

This book was released on 2022-05-13 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing nations have been experimenting with different models and theories in their quest for development for decades but are missing some critical elements when mirrored or judged via a Westernized lens. In order for these countries to successfully establish their identity and address issues that have held them back in the past, further study on the use of media and philosophy in correlation with development must be conducted. The Handbook of Research on Connecting Philosophy, Media, and Development in Developing Countries examines how media can be utilized to bridge the gap between the past and the future for developing countries and drive sustainable development. The book also seeks to reimagine development within developing regions through the prism of their unique cultures, religions, media, and philosophies so they can take hold of their identity and portrayals within the international arena. Covering topics such as human development, new media, language, and culture, this major reference work is ideal for government officials, policymakers, scholars, researchers, academicians, practitioners, instructors, and students.

Download or read book At a Crossroads written by María Marta Ferreyra and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2017-05-18 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean has expanded dramatically in the past 15 years, as the average gross enrollment rate has more than doubled, and many new institutions and programs have been opened. Although higher education access has become more equitable, and higher education supply has become more varied, many of the 'new' students in the system are, on average, less academically ready than are their more advantaged counterparts. Furthermore, only half of higher education students, on average, complete their degree, and labor market returns to higher education vary greatly across institutions and programs. Thus, higher education is at a crossroads today. Given the region's urgency to raise productivity in a low-growth, fiscally constrained environment, going past this crossroads requires the formation of skilled human capital fast and efficiently. 'At a Crossroads: Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean' contributes to the discussion by studying quality, variety, and equity of higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean. The book presents comprehensive evidence on the recent higher education expansion and evolution of higher education labor market returns. Using novel data and state-of-the-art methods, it studies demand and supply drivers of the recent expansion. It investigates the behavior of institutions and students and explores the unintended consequences of large-scale higher education policies. Framing the analysis are the singular characteristics of the higher education market and the market segmentation induced by the variety of students and institutions in the system. At this crossroads, a role emerges for incentives, information, accountability, and choice."

Book Protection and Training

Download or read book Protection and Training written by Alberto E. Isgut and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The world of work is going through far-reaching transformations. These transformations have a strong impact on labour markets and pose new challenges for their institutions, including unemployment protection and technical and vocational education and training (TVET), which are crucial to the creation of full and productive employment and decent work for all. Constantly changing labour markets and the growing heterogeneity of labour relations present major challenges for the design of unemployment protection instruments. In addition, a highly skilled workforce is a key element for any development strategy that aims to base economic growth on innovation and knowledge. Moreover, national technical and vocational education and training systems must meet increasingly diverse demands from both the production sector and persons seeking decent work. By analysing recent experiences in Latin America and Asia in relation to unemployment protection and TVET systems, as well as the challenges the countries of the two regions face as they develop these labour market institutions, this volume seeks to contribute to the debate on the formation of labour market institutions that foster sustainable development in a changing world of work."--Publisher's description.
