Book Marx and Wittgenstein

Download or read book Marx and Wittgenstein written by Gavin Kitching and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At first sight, Karl Marx and Ludwig Wittgenstein may well seem to be as different from each other as it is possible for the ideas of two major intellectuals to be. Despite this standard conception, however, a small number of scholars have long suggested that there are deeper philosophical commonalities between Marx and Wittgenstein. They have argued that, once grasped, these commonalities can radically change and enrich understanding both of Marxism and of Wittgensteinian philosophy. This book develops and extends this unorthodox view, emphasising the mutual enrichment that comes from bringing Marx's and Wittgenstein's ideas into dialogue with one another. Essential reading for all scholars and philosophers interested in the Marxist philosophy and the philosophy of Wittgenstein, this book will also be of vital interest to those studying and researching in the fields of social philosophy, political philosophy, philosophy of social science and political economy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enrique Ambrosini Dussel is and has been one of the most prolific Latin American philosophers of the last 100 years. He has written over fifty books, and over three hundred articles ranging over the history of the Latin American philosophy, political philosophy, church history, theology, ethics, and occasional pieces on the state of Latin American countries. Dussel is first and foremost a moral philosopher, a philosopher of liberation. But for him, philosophy must be liberated so that it may contribute to social liberation. In one sense, "beyond philosophy" means to go beyond contemporary, academicized, professionalized, and "civilized" philosophy by turning to all that demystifies the autonomy of philosophy and turns our attention to its sources. "Beyond philosophy," also means to go beyond philosophy in the Marxian sense of abolishing philosophy by realizing it. This is the definitive English language collection of Dussel's enormous body of work. It will allow the reader to get a good sense of the breath and depth of Dussel's opus, covering four major areas: ethics, economics, history, and liberation theology.

Book The Critical Poem

Download or read book The Critical Poem written by Thorpe Running and published by Bucknell University Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In this book, scholar Thorpe Running shows that a skeptical approach to both language and poetry places eight poets from three countries in Latin America within a strain of poetry prefigured by Stephane Mallarme." "Octavio Paz, Jorge Luis Borges, Roberto Juarroz, Alejandra Pizarnik, Alberto Girri, Juan Luis Martinez, Gonzalo Millan, and David Huerta span three different generations. In addition to their age and geographical differences, their poetry bears no obvious similarities. All eight, however, are poetas pensantes, or thinking poets, and underlying the work of these probing writers is the disturbing question: Does language do what it is supposed to do? The answer is negative for all these poets who see their poems as being made up of words that don't work."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Download or read book Ethics and Community written by Enrique Dussel and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2008-06-01 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive introductory approach to what liberation theology has to say about ethics and morals. Dussel begins by making a fundamental distinction between two types of ethical systems: community ethics and social morality. The first grows out of a central concern with community; the second out of isolated individualism. Dussel first poses ten questions basic to a discussion of ethics (on good and evil; personal and social sin; relative morals and absolute ethics, and others). Next, he examines ten contemporary issues requiring an ethical stance, among them: labor and the work ethic; capitalism and socialism; the arms race; and Third World debt and dependency. Rigorous in design and scholarship, yet clear and accessibly written, Ethics and Community offers the first single, systematic treatment of an ethics rooted, as liberation theology is rooted, in the concerns of the poor of Latin America--and the world.
