Book THE YELLOW FAIRY BOOK Illustrated Edition

Download or read book THE YELLOW FAIRY BOOK Illustrated Edition written by Anon E. Mouse and published by Abela Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2017-10-23 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This extraordinary volume contains 37 old and forgotten folk and fairy tales including stories like stories Lovely Ilonka, Lucky Luck, The Hairy Man, To Your Good Health! and The Story of the Seven Simons. It also contains Russian, German, French, Icelandic, American (Red) Indian, and other tales from around the world. There was a time when the president of the Folk Lore Society believed it was not acceptable for the editors of the day, in particular Mr Andrew Lang and Mr. Joseph Jacobs, to publish fairy books. Their reply was that they did not see any harm in it, and they were ready to 'put themselves on their country,' and be tried by a jury of children. And so they were proving the President of the FLS wrong. This book also contains many references to fairies. As to whether there are really any fairies or not, is a difficult question. Andrew Lang never saw any himself, but he knew several people who have seen them-in the Highlands-and heard their music. If ever you are near Nether Lochaber, go to the Fairy Hill, and you may hear the music your-self, as grown-up people have done, but you must go on a fine day. If fairies really do not exist, why do so many people believe in them, the world over? The ancient Greeks, the old Egyptians, the Hindus, the Chinese, the Africans and even the Native Americans claim to have seen them and it is unlikely that so many different peoples would have seen and heard them? The Editor cannot say 'good-bye' without advising children, as they pursue their studies, to read The Rose and the Ring, by the late Mr. Thackeray. He believes this book is quite indispensable in every child's library, and parents should be urged to purchase it at the first opportunity, as without it no education is really complete.

Book THE SHOEMAKERS APRON 20 illustrated Czech and Slovak Childrens Stories

Download or read book THE SHOEMAKERS APRON 20 illustrated Czech and Slovak Childrens Stories written by Anon E. Mouse and published by Abela Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2018-10-04 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS book contains 20 Czech and Slovak folk and fairy tales translated and retold in English by Parker Fillmore, with excellent illustrations and decorations by Jan Matulka. Drawn from original Slavic sources, and chosen for their variety of subject and range of interest with tales like: The Twelve Months, Zlatovlaska The Golden-Haired, The Shepherd's Nosegay, Smolicheck, The Nickerman's Wife, Batcha And The Dragon, Vitazko The Victorious and many more. Unlike stories from the Grimm brothers, here are fairy tales conceived with all the gorgeousness of the Slavic imagination; charming little nursery tales that might be told in nurseries the world over; folk tales illustrative of the wit of a canny people; and rollicking devil tales as surprising to the Anglo-Saxon imagination as they are entertaining. They are not in any sense academic translations, but vivid renditions by a man who, besides being a student of folklore, was an accomplished story-teller in his own right. The stories are further embellished by Jan Matulka’s exquisite illustrations which capture the essence of the region’s culture. Added to this Matulka commences each story with a vignette which have a distinct Picasso-esque style to them. So, get yourself a warm drink, snuggle in to a comfy chair and sit back and enjoy folklore and tales from the Heart of Europe.
