No school can exist without the other schools. The rural school, the high school, the college, and the university, all depend upon one another and all are necessary. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fifty-Fifth Annual Meeting of the Maryland State Teachers' Association: Baltimore, Maryland, December 1, 2, 1922 Dr. Cameron: I may say at this point that a number of the mem bers of the Maryland State Teachers' Association were present at the meeting of the National Education Association in Boston during the first week of July, and that they found there a splendid professional Spirit. I think that probably one of the most striking features at that great convention was the fact that there is a movement on foot to bring the educational forces of the various nations of the world together, in order that they may understand 'the ideals which these nations of the world represent. I trust that members of this Association who can find the Opportunity and can also afford the expense, will attend the meeting of the National Education Association at Oakland this coming summer. Church, Berlin, and St. Paul by the Sea, Ocean City, as follows: "Direct us, O Lord, in all our doings, with Thy most gracious favor, and further us with Thy continual help; that in all our works begun, continued and ended in Thee, we may glorify Thy holy Name, and finally, by Thy mercy, obtain everlasting life. "Help them to realize the sacredness of the work in which they are engaged, and to know that they are called to train and develop the morals, as well as the intellectual faculties, of those committed to their care. "Help them, one and all, to perceive the vast importance of the work in which they are engaged, so that they may diligently seek to become more and more efficient as instructors and educators, to the end that they may with greater proficiency inculcate the doctrines of purity of purpose, unimpeachable integrity, and self-dependence in the hearts of their pupils. "May they all be granted the highest ideals in the pursuit of their vocation, and may they have such success in their undertaking that the sons committed to their care may grow up as the pillars of Church and State, and the daughters be as the polished corners of the Temple. "And grant, O Lord, that in all their words and acts, everything may tend to the advancement of Thy glory and the welfare of men. "We ask it all through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen." The President introduced the first speaker of the evening, as follows: "The Executive Committee has spared no pains nor expense to provide for this annual meeting of the State Teachers' Association profitable and interesting entertainment in the way of speakers and music. Book The Maryland State Teachers Association

Download or read book The Maryland State Teachers Association written by and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-04 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Maryland State Teachers' Association: 44th Annual Meeting, June 27-30, 1911, Braddock Heights, Maryland The forty-fourth annual meeting of the Maryland State Teachers' Association is now a matter of record, to which every member points with pride and satisfaction. It is not unusual for a meeting of this kind to have some one distinctive feature, and the sessions of the last meeting differed from all others in the large number of such phases. The attendance, in the first place, was a record breaker, reaching over eight hundred. It shows that we are on the eve of the thousand mark, which will most likely be reached next year. The work of the departments was more definite and comprehensive than ever before. While there may be many difficulties in the way, after all, this work and its organization may be the nucleus about which will form a state-wide agency for professional improvement of teachers. Some of our number catch a glimpse of such a factor at times, and after a while, with the definite departments of the Maryland State Teachers' Association and the Summer School at the Johns Hopkins University serving as beacon lights, we may march from the mesh and tangle of doubt and fear to higher grounds on the question. The County Institute has served a good purpose, but the demands of teaching now seem to require a larger work, a broader vision, and a deeper inspiration than come from the one week institute. The remarkable attendance of Maryland teachers at the Johns Hopkins, Columbia, and other such schools the present summer shows an appreciation of means of improvement as will reflect beneficially on school interests generally. The printed proceedings which, follow give an account of the work of the Department of Rural Schools. Under the direction of Professor Crocheron much interest was aroused in this generally neglected phase of school work, and there must be much satisfaction at this new awakening of interest in the rural school problem. We are on the right track to give rural school education its right setting and relations touching community interest and life. This book was released on 2015-07-03 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Forty-Fifth Annual Meeting of the Maryland State Teachers Association, 1912 The Maryland State Teachers' Association has evidently entered upon a more prosperous era and occupies higher ground in our educational system than ever before in its history. The forty-fifth annual session held last summer at Braddock Heights was remarkable in its attendance and the quality of its program. The goal of a membership of one thousand was almost reached - over nine hundred enrolling. The same zeal which has been put into the preceding meetings by the officers of the Association and the members of the executive committee, if maintained, will easily secure the one thousand enrollment which all of us have devoutly wished for and striven to obtain. To have had as speakers at the meeting such distinguished educators as Dr. P. P. Claxton, United States Commissioner of Education and Superintendent Dr. W. M. Davidson, of the Washington City Schools, speaks well for those who arranged the program and shows that the Association is growing in importance. The work of the several departments of the Association improves each year in its character and its scope becomes more far reaching. May it be the purpose of every teacher and official to make whatever sacrifice is necessary to at least double the membership and bring to the program the best talent obtainable.
