Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fifty-First Annual Report of the Hawaiian Mission Children's Society, 1903: With the Revised Constitution and by-Laws and Lists of Honorary and Active Members Dr. Clark said that as a missionary society its usefulness is past, but as a memorial society it must ever continue. He told of his ap preciation of the Report during the many years of his absence, and he thinks this should be continued, but agrees that one annual meeting, without stiffness and without business, will supply the social needs of the society. Mr. Andrews suggested that throughout the year, as opportunity offered, a good work could be done along the line of Miss Julia Gulick's idea, in assisting Mr. And Mrs. Damon in entertaining passing missionaries. The young ladies' glee club of Oahu College, with Miss Smith as leader, sang a lullaby, soft, harmonious and dreamful, followed by a Dutch lullaby, so rollicking it might well set the winds and dream fairies dancing among the sails of Holland. The minutes of the Board of Managers were read and Dr. Emer son moved that the recommendations of the Board be accepted, bar ring the item referring to the size of the Annual Report. After some explanations Dr. Emerson withdrew his motion and G. R. Carter moved the adoption of the entire report. Mrs. Theodore Richards, chairman of the literary program, read a synopsis of the Thaddeus journal from the time of reaching Hawaii to the time of landing at Kailua, prepared by A. C. Dr. Emerson hoped the original spelling of Hawaiian names, as given in the journal, might be preserved. The Treasurer's report was received, accepted, and placed on file.
