Book Field Notes from The Making of a Godly Warrior

Download or read book Field Notes from The Making of a Godly Warrior written by Scott A. Harris and published by . This book was released on 2020-12-22 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An in-depth chapter-by-chapter look at the journey of becoming who God called you to be, and how to get there. The Field Notes Study Guide engages the reader to take a personal assessment at the beginning of each chapter followed by a study of the corresponding chapter of the original book, "The Making of a Godly Warrior." Additionally, each chapter guides development as well as thought-provoking questions for the reader to gauge personal spiritual development. This study can be equally effective in either a group or individual study. Endorsement: "Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out." Proverbs 20:5. A perfect companion to The Making of a Godly Warrior, the Field Notes Guide builds upon a rock-solid foundation. In it, the author asks probing questions that draw out deep waters of counsel from the heart of the reader. I can't think of a more effective way to drive home the deep truths in The Making of a Godly Warrior. Only through deep introspection can true change happen. You shouldn't read the Field Notes Guide in one sitting. It is meant as a travel companion through life. A chapter each week, or even a chapter each month is about the right speed. You'll want to devote sufficient time to absorb, apply, and enjoy these deep truths. Immerse yourself in the journey. You're going to love it. And God will richly bless you. Randy J. Harris, Assistant Vice President/Treasury. About the Author: Scott thoroughly enjoys hiking with his wife in the captivating scenery of the Great Smoky Mountains with endless trails that lead to waterfalls and breathtaking views. He finds many correlations between hiking through the forest and the spiritual journey of following Christ. Scott and Gigi enjoy a wonderful family of five children and eleven grandchildren living mostly in New England, albeit excited to visit this land known as "God's Country."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WARS CHANGE, WARRIORS DON'T We are all warriors. Each of us struggles every day to define and defend our sense of purpose and integrity, to justify our existence on the planet and to understand, if only within our own hearts, who we are and what we believe in. Do we fight by a code? If so, what is it? What is the Warrior Ethos? Where did it come from? What form does it take today? How do we (and how can we) use it and be true to it in our internal and external lives? The Warrior Ethos is intended not only for men and women in uniform, but artists, entrepreneurs and other warriors in other walks of life. The book examines the evolution of the warrior code of honor and "mental toughness." It goes back to the ancient Spartans and Athenians, to Caesar's Romans, Alexander's Macedonians and the Persians of Cyrus the Great (not excluding the Garden of Eden and the primitive hunting band). Sources include Herodotus, Thucydides, Plutarch, Xenophon, Vegetius, Arrian and Curtius--and on down to Gen. George Patton, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, and Israeli Minister of Defense, Moshe Dayan.

Book The Making of the Igorot

Download or read book The Making of the Igorot written by Gerard A. Finin and published by Ateneo University Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Philippines' Cordilera mountains of Northern Luzon have long been known as home to the peoples termed Igorots. Throughout the Spanish era, however, familiarity among highland peoples was frequently circumscribed. Mutual suspicions and long-standing enmity based on widespread headhunting practices in the Cordillera characterized many intervillage relationships. There was no broadly shared consciousness or solidarity among mountaineers. This work examines how and why American colonial rule transformed social and spatial relations across the Cordillera, creating a distinctive pan-Cordillera Igorot ethnoregional consciousness. It analyzes the ways in which the establishment of Mountain Province in the early 1900s and the imposition of direct American rule served to discourage contact between highlanders and lowlanders, while reinforcing notions of highlander connectedness. The author demonstrates the central role of Baguio City as an ethnically diverse urban center for cultural comparison and change that served as a crucible for the emergence of a robust Igorot identity. At the same time, he captures how, in different ways, succeeding generations of highlanders embraced the social and spatial bonds associated with Igorot-ism and Igorot-land. Based on this constructed ethnoregional consciousness, Finin illuminates how Igorots or Cordillerans during the 1980s and 1990s articulated this image of oneness in resisting the Marcos regime's dam and logging projects, and in subsequent calls for a Cordillera autonomous region similar to Mindanao.

Book King Warrior Magician Lover

Download or read book King Warrior Magician Lover written by Robert Moore and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bestselling, widely heralded, Jungian introduction to the psychological foundation of a mature, authentic, and revitalized masculinity. Redefining age-old concepts of masculinity, Jungian analysts Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette make the argument that mature masculinity is not abusive or domineering, but generative, creative, and empowering of the self and others. Moore and Gillette clearly define the four mature male archetypes that stand out through myth and literature across history: the king (the energy of just and creative ordering), the warrior (the energy of aggressive but nonviolent action), the magician (the energy of initiation and transformation), and the lover (the energy that connects one to others and the world), as well as the four immature patterns that interfere with masculine potential (divine child, oedipal child, trickster and hero). King, Warrior, Magician, Lover is an exploratory journey that will help men and women reimagine and deepen their understanding of the masculine psyche.

Book Saracens and the Making of English Identity

Download or read book Saracens and the Making of English Identity written by Siobhain Bly Calkin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the ways in which discourses of religious, racial, and national identity blur and engage each other in the medieval West. Specifically, the book studies depictions of Muslims in England during the 1330s and argues that these depictions, although historically inaccurate, served to enhance and advance assertions of English national identity at this time. The book examines Saracen characters in a manuscript renowned for the variety of its texts, and discusses hagiographic legends, elaborations of chronicle entries, and popular romances about Charlemagne, Arthur, and various English knights. In these texts, Saracens engage issues such as the demarcation of communal borders, the place of gender norms and religion in communities' self-definitions, and the roles of violence and history in assertions of group identity. Texts involving Saracens thus serve both to assert an English identity, and to explore the challenges involved in making such an assertion in the early fourteenth century when the English language was regaining its cultural prestige, when the English people were increasingly at odds with their French cousins, and when English, Welsh, and Scottish sovereignty were pressing matters.
