Book Fictional Transfigurations of Jesus

Download or read book Fictional Transfigurations of Jesus written by Theodore Ziolkowski and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2002-04-12 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many novels revolve round the figure of Jesus. Some of the finest of them are defined by Ziolkowski as fictional transfigurations of Jesus. They share a modern hero patterned on Jesus the culture-hero, whose life consisted of the motifs of the last supper, lonely agony, betrayal, trial, and crucifixion. The aesthetic challenge of adapting this most familiar story for their generation has attracted an unusual number of great writers, among them Papini, Kazantzakis, Hesse, Mann, Greene, Faulkner, and Gore Vidal. The form began with the new image of a humanized Jesus which developed in the 19th century. The interest in religious paranoia and hysteria at the turn of the century instantly expanded its potentialities as novelists began to explore the theme of christomania. This was followed by studies of Jesus as a mythic figure and then Marxist-oriented portraits of Comrade Jesus. Finally the form became inverted into parody in the Fifth Gospels in which not Jesus, but Judas, is the central figure.

Book The Resurrection of Jesus Christ

Download or read book The Resurrection of Jesus Christ written by Sean Ivory Garrett and published by . This book was released on 2013-09 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is a compelling fictional novel which retraces the events of the trial of Jesus Christ, through the eyes of Pontius Pilate, and sheds new light on the aftermath surrounding Jesus' death and resurrection. The Jews have delivered Jesus to Pilate, and with him, a host of allegations in which they fail to establish proof that Jesus should be put to death. Even Pilate, after hearing testimony from all sides, including Jesus himself, cannot side with Caiaphas, Annas, and the rest of the Jews, who demand that Jesus be given death by the cross. The trial is highly contentious and personal, and at one point, Pilate fears that the calm of the approaching Passover would be disrupted with riot and insurrection by the angry Jews, if he does not act according to their demands. Thus, Pilate makes a political and fateful decision to condemn Jesus, despite the lack of evidence to convict him of the crimes against him. Pilate's decision to put Jesus to death set off a chain of events that would challenge Pilate's decision to its core. Pilate, subsequently, finds himself in a life-changing conflict that would force him to question his beliefs, his morality, and his allegiance to Tiberius and the Roman empire.

Download or read book Jesus of the Future written by Alexander C. Parker and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2013-10 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus of the Future is a novel presenting a totally different option for stories about God and Jesus; it takes you through a "fictional creation" and several well know Bible stories. Each provides a different view from what you find in the Holy Bible, but with a somewhat same conclusion; there is an extensive disclaimer that acknowledges the Holy Bible as true and that no part of the novel is to take the place of the actual Word of God, as is in the Holy Bible. There is an extraterrestrial portion, in which a human man and a visitor from another world become friends; from this comes the ability to create the first and totally genetically artificial life-form, which becomes Jesus. Another section describes how Jesus is born, is raised, lives and dies; it offers a continuous message of salvation. Again it presents a totally different way for Jesus to have lived; even so, He does die for the sins of mankind by crucifixion, and the final part tells of the return and promise of everlasting life. This work of fiction provides direct, firm, clear direction for becoming a born-again Christian. There is a very clear message on the promised return of Jesus Christ. This is the first of a planned series. The second volume will be titled The Book of Short Stories and will tell how God worked in the lives of different people.

Book The Last Temptation of Christ

Download or read book The Last Temptation of Christ written by Nikos Kazantzakis and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-03-20 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The internationally renowned novel about the life and death of Jesus Christ. Hailed as a masterpiece by critics worldwide, The Last Temptation of Christ is a monumental reinterpretation of the Gospels that brilliantly fleshes out Christ’s Passion. This literary rendering of the life of Jesus Christ has courted controversy since its publication by depicting a Christ far more human than the one seen in the Bible. He is a figure who is gloriously divine but earthy and human, a man like any other—subject to fear, doubt, and pain. In elegant, thoughtful prose Nikos Kazantzakis, one of the greats of modern literature, follows this Jesus as he struggles to live out God’s will for him, powerfully suggesting that it was Christ’s ultimate triumph over his flawed humanity, when he gave up the temptation to run from the cross and willingly laid down his life for mankind, that truly made him the venerable redeemer of men. “Spiritual dynamite.” —San Francisco Chronicle “A searing, soaring, shocking novel.” —Time

When Jesus is mistaken as a man with mental illness and often misunderstood for a hobo on the streets, his good friend Lyle embarks on a journey to help Jesus fulfill God's will and save the world's true believers. But who and where are the true believers? The life of Jesus has been well chronicled, as have his miraculous acts, divine teachings and ultimate sacrifice. The Book of Revelations, the final book of the New Testament, sheds a bit of light upon the subject including Christ's return to Earth. But no one knows about how this story might unfold -except for Lyle, the Messiah's hobo friend and best bud, who is here to tell you his story. In this hilarious tale, the story of Lyle and the stranger is filled with remarkable journeys, magic, death, doubters, fanatics, the Amish, boxers in Vegas all meticulously intertwined between plenty of time to let loose by turning water into wine. With the distractions of today -population, traffic, public transport, and technology -will they prove too much for an ol'timer in robes and rope sandals? People are living their lives in vain, and urge Jesus to live it up and take what you want because you only get one chance but, it's Jesus' second chance. How is he going to live his life the second time around and is Lyle's friendship going to be his saving grace or his ultimate demise?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jesus Secret is the first fiction book written by Dr. Robert Siblerud based on his nonfiction book The Unknown Life of Jesus. It is a historical novel about the life of Jesus. It is an exciting adventure of two college professors, Carl Iverson and Katherine Ralston, searching for the truth of what really happened to Jesus. Dr. Iverson had received an ancient manuscript written in Aramaic at the time of Jesus, discovered in Israel. The manuscript described Jesus’s life after the crucifixion, giving evidence that he survived the crucifixion. (An actual manuscript was found called the Talmud of Immanuel.) The book provides the evidence that Jesus lived out his life in Kashmir and had a family. The excitement comes when powers of the church try to prevent Carl and Katherine from finding the truth. The Jesus Secret describes the lost years of Jesus, how he survived the crucifixion, his family, a background on how the church was established, and the corruption within the church to hide the truth. The final chapters describe what may happen if the truth is discovered. After reading the book, the reader will have a better understanding, respect, and love for Jesus, the most evolved soul ever to help guide humanity on their spiritual journey.

Download or read book The Gospel According to written by Martha Carver Harris and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-27 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biblical evidence suggests that the Jerusalem Temple ran spies and that spies were involved in following Jesus. From this idea comes the story of Darmud, an agent of the Jerusalem Temple's spy network whose target is Jesus of Nazareth. In his quest to nail Jesus, he devises the plan that ensnares Judas Iscariot and eventually leads to the Crucifixion. Darmud is the first in a series of narrators sharing firsthand accounts of encounters with Jesus. Also presenting the viewpoints of a Sanhedrin member, an adulteress, a slave, the Roman procurator, and others, the narrative examines the enemies arrayed against Jesus of Nazareth, as well as the doubters and sinners who eventually supported Him. The story is set against a backdrop of competing cultures--Roman, Jewish, and Greek--that both enriched and corrupted first-century Palestine. It explores how the sophistication and political acuity of Jewish and Roman leaders reacted in the presence of Truth itself. With humor and insight, this unusual retelling of the Gospel from the standpoint of fallen humanity manages to highlight the struggle between good and evil raging in every man.
