Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up in the country is by far one of the best learning environments any family might desire. Of course, these were the days of dirt roads and friendly neighbors. It was a time when a dollar went a long way and when a meal was included in your pay when working for one of the local farmers. We knew how to make our own fun riding our bikes, playing in the creeks, climbing trees, to say nothing of the amazing pets we enjoyed. Summer or winter, life in the country was great. This is where I had my beginning, and maybe this is why we did all the wild and crazy things you will discover herein. Yes, this is where it all began.

Book Tall Tales Taller Tales and Out and Out Lies

Download or read book Tall Tales Taller Tales and Out and Out Lies written by Sandy Walker III and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-08 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of these stories are true. Some are fabrications. "The Gun Show" is one. It is a loose interpretation of an event. If you are familiar with the event, you will understand the satire. The stories, such as "The Great Possum Slayer", tell of a hunting adventure. We are all guilty of doing something to a friend in the name of fun. "The night Before Christmas" describes a practical joke that turned out better than planned! Several stories, as an example, "BB'S & Bumblebees", reflect on our desire to imitate our parents. Several of the stories convey a safety message. "The Hazards of Plastic Bullets", is an example that shows what can happen in the blink of an eye when we choose to disregard a simple safety statement. Some of the stories deal with older people and a time not so long ago. These people believed that you took care of your problem. You will notice in these stories, the problem would have gone away or been taken care of long before law enforcement could arrive. With our modern communications we can now summon the Calvary in an instant. It has not been too long ago that this was not the case in a lot of areas of our great nation. "The Letter", is an adaptation of a letter I want read at my funeral. Surprise, fear, courage, fortitude and a child's belief that they are bullet proof are all expressed in stories in this book. A book of this nature easily causes us to reflect on our lives and events that have slipped into our fading memory. If this book reminds a single individual of any similar events in their past, makes them a safer individual, or makes them laugh it will have succeed in its purpose beyond expectations.

But with the tide of eugenics and the Nazis’ rise to power, Rigmor is swept up in a campaign to rid Germany of the mentally ill. USA, 1984. Linking these two generations of women is Inga, who did everything in her power to help her sister, Rigmor. Now with her granddaughter, Sabine, Inga is given a second chance to free someone she loves from oppressive forces, both within and without. This is a story about hope and redemption, about what we pass on, both genetically and culturally. It is about the high price of repression, and how one woman, who lost nearly everything, must be willing to reveal the failures of the past in order to save future generations. With chilling echoes of our time, Where Madness Lies is based on a true story of the author’s own family.

Book Stories Tall Tales and Lies

Download or read book Stories Tall Tales and Lies written by Kerry D. Lewis and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-09-17 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been my observation that most everyone enjoys a good story. It doesn't matter the subject or place as long as it is interesting enough to read. A good story doesn't have to prove a point, set an example, or provide a lesson, but it must feed the imagination, touch the heart or stir the reader's curiosity. Some of these stories may stray from the truth while others touch reality. Some are just a figment of the imagination while others are strange, true and believable . A story can be whatever the reader wants it to be.

Book A Million Little Pieces

Download or read book A Million Little Pieces written by James Frey and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2004-05-11 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A gripping memoir about the nature of addiction and the meaning of recovery from a bold and talented literary voice. “Anyone who has ever felt broken and wished for a better life will find inspiration in Frey’s story.” —People “A great story.... You can't help but cheer his victory.” —Los Angeles Times Book Review By the time he entered a drug and alcohol treatment facility, James Frey had taken his addictions to near-deadly extremes. He had so thoroughly ravaged his body that the facility’s doctors were shocked he was still alive. The ensuing torments of detoxification and withdrawal, and the never-ending urge to use chemicals, are captured with a vitality and directness that recalls the seminal eye-opening power of William Burroughs’s Junky. But A Million Little Pieces refuses to fit any mold of drug literature. Inside the clinic, James is surrounded by patients as troubled as he is—including a judge, a mobster, a one-time world-champion boxer, and a fragile former prostitute to whom he is not allowed to speak—but their friendship and advice strikes James as stronger and truer than the clinic’s droning dogma of How to Recover. James refuses to consider himself a victim of anything but his own bad decisions, and insists on accepting sole accountability for the person he has been and the person he may become—which runs directly counter to his counselors' recipes for recovery. James has to fight to find his own way to confront the consequences of the life he has lived so far, and to determine what future, if any, he holds. It is this fight, told with the charismatic energy and power of One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, that is at the heart of A Million Little Pieces: the fight between one young man’s will and the ever-tempting chemical trip to oblivion, the fight to survive on his own terms, for reasons close to his own heart. Download or read book The Handmaid s Tale written by Margaret Atwood and published by McClelland & Stewart. This book was released on 2011-09-06 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An instant classic and eerily prescient cultural phenomenon, from “the patron saint of feminist dystopian fiction” (New York Times). Now an award-winning Hulu series starring Elizabeth Moss. In this multi-award-winning, bestselling novel, Margaret Atwood has created a stunning Orwellian vision of the near future. This is the story of Offred, one of the unfortunate “Handmaids” under the new social order who have only one purpose: to breed. In Gilead, where women are prohibited from holding jobs, reading, and forming friendships, Offred’s persistent memories of life in the “time before” and her will to survive are acts of rebellion. Provocative, startling, prophetic, and with Margaret Atwood’s devastating irony, wit, and acute perceptive powers in full force, The Handmaid’s Tale is at once a mordant satire and a dire warning.
