Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vegetable fibers play an important role in domestic use and fiber industry for different purposes such as ropes, chords, twines, binders, gunny bags, carpets etc. Long vegetable fibers include both bast fibers obtained the bark of the stem and the fibers obtained from leaves. Among the bast fibers are utee, kenaf, ramie, flax, Hibiscus spp. and leaf fibers such as Agave sp. The present gives a detailed account of important bast fibers of world with respect to utility, botany, development of fibers, anatomy, methods of extraction, quality. There exist large variations among bast fibers in anatomical structures among different bass fibers crops and among varieties of the same species. In the case of ramie and flax fibers cells, oval are arranged in isolated manner or in patches in the cortex. The bast fibers are extracted by retting process caused by bacterial actions while in the case of ramie being cellulosic the fibers are extracted by chemical degumming process. The book deals with distribution, anatomy, extraction methods of few Mexican laef fibres such as Agave lecheguilla, yucca carnersana exploited extensively in arid lands of Nrteast Mexico. In the last part of the book is given a concise review on the technology of the fibers and its quality. The book will be useful in fiber industry and serve as text book in agriculture.

Book Diseases Pests Of Fibre Crops

Download or read book Diseases Pests Of Fibre Crops written by Subrata Biswas and published by New India Publishing Agency. This book was released on 2019-07-27 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive knowledge on the diseases and pests of fibre crops, causing economic damage. It covers major disease and pest damages with the methods to combat them in fibre crop cultivations. The diseases and pests are described elaborately, giving emphasis on both morphological and molecular characteristics of pathogens and biology of different insect pests. The latest and most up-to-date knowledge on these aspects which acquired from diverse, complex, contemporary scientific discoveries in the field of fibre crop diseases and pests are compiled and presented in this book. This book is written in eight major chapters, each representing a certain type fibre crop, except for chapter 2 (two) which deals with both Mesta (kenaf) and Roselle for their similarities in disease and insect pest attacks. Each of the eight chapters is again subdivided into 2 or 3 (only for Chapter 2) subchapters to deal with different types of diseases and pests separately. This is a reference book in textbook format which intended to provide undergraduate, postgraduate and research personnel a means to acquire deeper knowledge on diseases and pests of nine major fibre crops, viz., cotton, jute, kenaf, roselle, sunnhemp , sisal, ramie, flax and hemp. Plant pathologists, entomologists and agricultural research scientists, and in academia, may find much of great use in this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is the second in a series of three evaluating underexploited African plant resources that could help broaden and secure Africa's food supply. The volume describes the characteristics of 18 little-known indigenous African vegetables (including tubers and legumes) that have potential as food- and cash-crops but are typically overlooked by scientists and policymakers and in the world at large. The book assesses the potential of each vegetable to help overcome malnutrition, boost food security, foster rural development, and create sustainable landcare in Africa. Each species is described in a separate chapter, based on information gathered from and verified by a pool of experts throughout the world. Volume I describes African grains and Volume III African fruits.

Book Nematode Diseases of Crops and their Management

Download or read book Nematode Diseases of Crops and their Management written by Parvatha P. Reddy and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-30 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited book provides knowledge about hemicelluloses biorefinery approaching production life cycle, circular economy, and valorization by obtaining value-added bioproducts and bioenergy. A special focus is dedicated to chemical and biochemical compounds produced from the hemicelluloses derivatives platform. Hemicelluloses are polysaccharides located into plant cell wall, with diverse chemical structures and properties. It is the second most spread organic polymer on nature and found in vast lignocellulosic materials from agro and industrial wastes, therefore, hemicelluloses are considered as abundant and renewable raw material/feedstock. Biorefinery concept contributes to hemicelluloses production associated with biomass industrial processes. Hemicelluloses are alternative sources of sugars for renewable fuels and as platform for chemicals production. This book reviews chemical processes for sugar production and degradation, obtaining of intermediate and final products, and challenges for pentose fermentation. Aspects of hemicelluloses chain chemical and enzymatic modifications are presented with focus on physicochemical properties improvement for bioplastic and biomaterial approaches. Hemicelluloses are presented as sources for advanced materials in biomedical and pharmaceutical uses, and as hydrogel for chemical and medicine deliveries. An interdisciplinary approach is needed to cover all the processes involving hemicelluloses, its conversion into final and intermediate value-added compounds, and bioenergy production. Covering this context, this book is of interest to teachers, students, researchers, and scientists dedicated to biomass valorization. This book is a knowledge source of basic aspects to advanced processing and application for graduate students, particularly. Besides, the book serves as additional reading material for undergraduate students (from different courses) with a deep interest in biomass and waste conversion, valorization, and chemical products from hemicelluloses.
