Book Ferrets Rats and Traps

Download or read book Ferrets Rats and Traps written by Nicholas Everitt and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2021-03-22 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ferrets, Rats and Traps, originally published in 1897 as: "Ferrets Their Management in Health and Disease." By Nicholas Everitt. This hitherto rare and much sought after book was the first comprehensive work to be written on the subject of ferrets and ferreting in England. Over 200 pages of content deal with every aspect of the ferret and its use both as a working animal and for pleasure or profit. The author, an acknowledged expert in his field, wrote numerous short articles on "Ferrets and All About Them" for early editions of The Shooting Times. By popular demand he eventually reprinted them in book form, with additions and alterations, and published this to much critical acclaim in March 1897. Read Country Books has now re-published "Ferrets" in its original format, including the interesting black and white illustrations of ferreting, ferret equipment, and vermin traps. The books contents are arranged in two sections. The first 160 pages deal with the origins of the ferret and also discuss the polecat, weasel, stoat and marten. Also included in this section are recommendations for ferret hutches, yards and courts, with illustrations of these and also ferret traps and working boxes produced by trap manufacturers of the time. Other chapters deal with ferret management, breeding and rearing, including advice on ailments and disease. The comprehensive chapters on working ferrets are a fascinating record of rural sport in the late 19th century, and will appeal greatly to todays ferreters. Further chapters on the laws relating to ferrets and ferreting will prove of historical interest. Section two of the book deals with trapping and with rats, their origins, habits and control. The prevention methods discussed include ferreting, trapping, shooting, poisoning etc. Much mention is made of various manufacturers and their traps, with some of them being illustrated. This fascinating book ends with a descriptive chapter of an 1890's November days ferreting.

Book The New Sport of Minkenry

    Book Details:
  • Author : Joseph Carter
  • Publisher : Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
  • Release : 2014-07-02
  • ISBN : 9781500400668
  • Pages : 242 pages

Download or read book The New Sport of Minkenry written by Joseph Carter and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2014-07-02 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mink are famous worldwide for their luxurious coat of fur, and yet most people know very little about them beyond their use as clothing. Even trappers, naturalists, and fur farmers, those who should know mink best, typically know only one side of the mink... their bad side. Those who do "know mink" will tell you how extremely aggressive and blood thirsty the mink is, and truth be told, they aren't that far off. But there is a different side to mink that very few have seen. This book not only tells how the art of Minkenry began, but more importantly, it is a step by step guide to those wanting to train a hunting mink. In this book I share how to tame, train, and properly care for this very intense little predator, the North American mink. Though still in its infancy, the sport of minkenry has been spreading thanks to the information sharing power of the Internet. First started in the western state of Utah, there are now minkeners springing up across the United States, and even as far away as the UK, Germany, France, and other European countries! As there is a growing need for a "how to" manual on the art of minkenry, this book was written specifically to fill that need. Minkenry is a very challenging sport, and is definitely not for everyone! Though highly intelligent, and surprisingly affectionate, mink are also very high-strung and stubborn creatures. They typically use their intelligence to work against you, far more than they do to work with you. Though not an adventure for the faint of heart; falconers, hunters, trappers, and other sportsmen worldwide, are being drawn to the art of minkenry with a pioneer's spirit. They have the desire to become part of something that has never been done before! If you yearn to experience the challenge of hunting with an aggressive, high strung, truly wild animal; then join us and become one of the pioneers in the new sport of minkenry!

Cameron and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2016-09-06 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book for the true countryman of all ages. First published in the early 1900s, now reprinted in a fine-quality paperback edition for a new generation. It will stir many nostalgic memories for older readers and teach younger ones some new and unusual methods of taking various kinds of quarry. Its seven illustrated chapters cover 166 pages and include details and instructions on a fascinating variety of subjects, many of them now long vanished. It's a truly readable book from a more innocent age when the country was a freer place. We've reprinted this with genuine pleasure. It describes the sporting activities of a generation only just removed from ours but now separated forever by new legislation and a change in attitudes amongst out-of-touch urbanites. My father described it as 'almost a diary of my country childhood'. It is without doubt the most interesting book we've ever sold and I defy anyone with even a passing interest in the countryside or field sports to be able to flick through it without becoming absorbed. I : SPORTS DEPENDING ON DOGS: Badger-hunting; Stoat-hunting; Rat-hunting; Squirrel-hunting; Water-vole and Moorhen hunting; Wild-rabbit coursing; Hedgehog finding; Dog-racing; "Hunting the clean boot" II: SPORTS DEPENDING ON FERRETS: Ratting; Rabbiting III: SPORTS DEPENDENT ON BIRDS: Hawking small birds; Trapping and netting sparrows; Pigeon-racing; Tippler-flying; Hawking insects with jackdaws IV: SPORTS REQUIRING A GUN OR RIFLE: Rook and rabbit shooting; Sparrow and starling shooting; Wood-pigeon shooting; Shooting game with a bow and arrows V: SPORT WITH FISHES: Wiring jack and pike; Sniggling and spearing eels; Minnow and gudgeon fishing; Crayfish catching VI: MISCELLANEOUS SPORTS: Finding the eggs of certain birds; Viper-killing; Millipede-racing; Beetle-fighting VII: SOME MAJOR FIELD SPORTS: In the hunting field; Fox-hunting
