Ernst and published by [Dartmouth, N.S.] : Environment Canada, Conservation and Protection, Atlantic Region. This book was released on 1989 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fenitrothion has been used in forest protection in the Atlantic Region since its first experimental application in 1965, and has been monitored for its effects from the beginning. This report presents the results of separate technical reviews undertaken on the effects of fenitrothion on pollinators and pollination, forest songbirds, and aquatic fauna. The reviews are essentially distillations of available literature, with the exception of the songbird review which also incorporated previously unpublished data and a re-analysis of earlier published information. Sources accessed include papers published in the primary literature as well as published and unpublished government reports. Recommendations are included.

Book excerpt: Like ecology, environmental science is multi- and interdisciplinary. The three major subdisciplines of environmental science are : Population, Resources, Environment. Of the above three major subdisciplines with environmental science, this book is more concerned with the third - the ecological effects of stressors, with particular reference to those associated with the activities of humans. A chapter deals with the use and abuse of biological resources and the emerging field of ecological economics. Some sections deal with environmental impact assessment; ecological monitoring; and the responsibilities of ecologists in environmental issues, environmental education, and the design of sustainable economic systems.

Download or read book Birds and Forestry written by Mark Avery and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2010-10-30 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, an ornithologist and a forester have combined their skills to try and tease out the real facts behind the various arguments on forestry. The conflict between forestry and nature conservation has become a major environmental issue in Britain in the 1980s. The planting of large tracts of land with exotic conifers and the resulting disturbance of existing plant and animal communities has polarized the debate, each camp believing that it has the most rational view. But the interactions involved are complex. Which bird species are really threatened? How can we judge the relative value of bird species ousted by plantations and the new species which colonize them? How can the need for forest products be reconciled with the demands of conservationists? This fascinating book tackles these issues in a forthright manner. It represents a significant step towards achieving the sort of prudent land planning that will really improve our beleaguered countryside. Jacket painting by Philip Snow. Foreword by David Bellamy.
