This book was released on 2017-10-01 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every year roughly 100,000 fatal and injury crashes occur in the United States involving large trucks and buses. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in the U.S. Department of Transportation works to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving large trucks and buses. FMCSA uses information that is collected on the frequency of approximately 900 different violations of safety regulations discovered during (mainly) roadside inspections to assess motor carriers' compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, as well as to evaluate their compliance in comparison with their peers. Through use of this information, FMCSA's Safety Measurement System (SMS) identifies carriers to receive its available interventions in order to reduce the risk of crashes across all carriers. Improving Motor Carrier Safety Measurement examines the effectiveness of the use of the percentile ranks produced by SMS for identifying high-risk carriers, and if not, what alternatives might be preferred. In addition, this report evaluates the accuracy and sufficiency of the data used by SMS, to assess whether other approaches to identifying unsafe carriers would identify high-risk carriers more effectively, and to reflect on how members of the public use the SMS and what effect making the SMS information public has had on reducing crashes.

Book Hours of Service of Drivers Us Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulation Fmcsa 2018 Edition

Download or read book Hours of Service of Drivers Us Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulation Fmcsa 2018 Edition written by The Law The Law Library and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-09-14 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hours of Service of Drivers (US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulation) (FMCSA) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Hours of Service of Drivers (US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulation) (FMCSA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 FMCSA amends the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations effective December 27 to allow commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers up to 11 hours of driving time within a 14-hour, non-extendable window from the start of the workday, following 10 consecutive hours off duty (11-hour limit). This interim rule also allows motor carriers and drivers to restart calculations of the weekly on-duty time limits after the driver has at least 34 consecutive hours off duty (34-hour restart). An IFR is necessary to prevent disruption to enforcement and compliance with the hours-of-service (HOS) rules when the stay expires, as well as possible effects on the timely delivery of essential goods and services. This IFR will ensure that a familiar and uniform set of national rules governs motor carrier transportation, while FMCSA gathers public comments on all aspects of this interim final rule, conducts peer review of our analysis, and considers the appropriate final rule that addresses the issues identified by the Court. FMCSA is fully committed to issuing a final rule in 2008. This book contains: - The complete text of the Hours of Service of Drivers (US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulation) (FMCSA) (2018 Edition) - A table of contents with the page number of each section

This book was released on 2018-09-21 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners - Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulation) (FMCSA) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners - Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulation) (FMCSA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 The FMCSA proposes to establish and maintain a National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) and to require that all medical examiners who conduct medical examinations for interstate commercial motor vehicle drivers complete certain training concerning FMCSA physical qualification standards, pass a test to verify an understanding of those standards, and maintain competence by periodic training and testing. Following establishment of the NRCME and a transition period, FMCSA would accept as valid only medical examiners' certificates issued by medical examiners listed on the NRCME. The FMCSA is developing the NRCME program to improve highway safety and driver health by requiring that medical examiners be trained and certified to determine effectively whether a commercial motor vehicle driver's health meets FMCSA standards. The program implements requirements in 49 U.S.C. 31149 and supports FMCSA's goal to improve safety and reduce fatalities on our Nation's highways. Book excerpt: Prohibiting Coercion of Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers (US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulation) (FMCSA) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Prohibiting Coercion of Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers (US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulation) (FMCSA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 FMCSA adopts regulations that prohibit motor carriers, shippers, receivers, or transportation intermediaries from coercing drivers to operate commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) in violation of certain provisions of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs)-including drivers' hours-of-service limits; the commercial driver's license (CDL) regulations; drug and alcohol testing rules; and the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMRs). In addition, the rule prohibits anyone who operates a CMV in interstate commerce from coercing a driver to violate the commercial regulations. This rule includes procedures for drivers to report incidents of coercion to FMCSA, establishes rules of practice that the Agency will follow in response to reports of coercion, and describes penalties that may be imposed on entities found to have coerced drivers. This rulemaking is authorized by section 32911 of the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) and the Motor Carrier Safety Act of 1984 (MCSA), as amended.
