Book excerpt: Excerpt from Federal Citizenship Textbook, Vol. 1: A Course of Instruction for Use in the Public Schools by the Candidate for Citizenship; English for American Citizenship; Lessons for Beginners and Intermediate Lessons Tony is a lively little boy. He runs, and plays hard. One day he ran out into the street in front of an automobile. He was knocked down. He got a deep cut on his forehead. His knee was hurt, too. The driver of the automobile took him to the relief hospital. The doctor there said that his injuries were not bad. The cut on his forehead was washed with cold water. Then the doctor put iodine upon it. He put on some clean cotton and a bandage. Then he looked at Tony's knee. It had swelled. Hot water was put on to keep the swelling down. Then the doctor bandaged the knee. He took Tony home in an automobile. He told Tony that he must stay in bed several days. Tony did not like to do this. His mother bathed the cut in his forehead every day. She put a fresh bandage on his knee. He stayed in bed as the doctor told him. Now he is well and strong again. Perhaps he will be more careful when he crosses the street. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
