Book The FBI and Crimes Against Children

Download or read book The FBI and Crimes Against Children written by Sabrina Crewe and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-02-03 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is a national agency dedicated to investigation federal crimes. Founded as a small team of special agents on July 26, 1908, the Bureau was first charged with enforcing the growing body of federal laws covering the United States as a whole. Almost from the beginning of its 100-year history, the Bureau has been the subject of legend and controversy. It has also evolved into a vast and sophisticated national law-enforcement agency. Whether as a federal crime-fighting force or a source of investigative support of local and state police forces, the modern FBI strives to embody its ideals of fidelity, bravery, and integrity. In its role as a national crime-fighting force, the FBI sometimes pursues the worst of all criminals-those who target and harm children. This volume examines the crimes that exploit children, looking at everything from online predators to kidnappers and killers and highlighting several famous cases. It shows how and when the FBI becomes involved and the techniques used by the FBI's Crimes Against Children team. The book also explains the important relationships between the FBI and its partners in law enforcement and in the community.

Book excerpt: Child Abductions and Child Exploitation - How to Protect your Children - Federal Bureau of Investigation. It's nearly unthinkable, but every year thousands of children become victims of crime-whether it's through kidnappings, violent attacks, sexual abuse, or online predators. The mission of our Violent Crimes Against Children program is threefold: first, to decrease the vulnerability of children to sexual exploitation; second, to develop a nationwide capacity to provide a rapid, effective, and measured investigative response to crimes against children; and third, to enhance the capabilities of state and local law enforcement investigators through programs, investigative assistance, and task force operations. Our strategy involves using multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams to investigate and prosecute crimes that cross legal, geographical, and jurisdictional boundaries; promoting and enhancing interagency sharing of intelligence, specialized skills, and services; and widely offering our victim/witness services. All for the express purpose of protecting our nation's greatest asset-our children.

Book Governmental Principles and Statutes on Child Pornography

Download or read book Governmental Principles and Statutes on Child Pornography written by Walker T. Holliday and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The First Amendment provides that 'Congress shall make no law... Bridging the freedom of speech, or of the press...'. The First Amendment applies, with two exceptions, to pornography and indecency, with those terms being used to refer to any words or pictures of a sexual nature. The two exceptions are obscenity and child pornography; because these are not protected by the First Amendment, they may be, and have been, made illegal. Child pornography is material that visually depicts sexual conduct by children, and is unprotected by the First Amendment even when it is not legally obscene. Federal statutes, in addition to making it a crime to transport or receive child pornography in interstate or foreign commerce, prohibit, among other things, the use of a minor in producing pornography, and provide for criminal and civil forfeiture of real and personal property used in making child pornography, and of the profits of child pornography. In addition, child pornography crimes are included among the predicate offences that may give rise to a violation of the Federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organisations Act. This book explains the laws that are currently implemented in the fight against child pornography. Also, the book goes on to discuss the various issues and problems associated with child pornography and how the American government has reacted to them.
