Book Improving Concrete and Mortar using Modified Ash and Slag Cements

Download or read book Improving Concrete and Mortar using Modified Ash and Slag Cements written by Leonid Dvorkin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-04-18 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of concrete and mortar containing coal fly ash, blast furnace slag, and other dispersed technogenic materials is one of the major areas of potential resource savings and improving the environmental efficiency and sustainability of construction. Improving Concrete and Mortar using Modified Ash and Slag Cements presents the results of a study of high-tech concrete on composite Portland cement and slag Portland cement. It explains the possibility of significantly improving the properties of cements and concrete with the introduction of superplasticizers and hardening activators. Features: Describes how additives can reduce costs and lead to more environmentally sustainable production Explains the possibility of obtaining high-tech concrete with a high content of ash, slag, and clinker kiln dust Presents the possibility of significant reductions of the most energy-intensive component of cements Examines the calculated dependences for predicting the technical properties of concrete saturated with dispersed technogenic products Explains the methods of calculating the composition of concrete with specified properties of low-clinker cements Suitable for civil and structural engineers as well as for specialists working in the field of concrete technology, students of civil engineering, and researchers of new construction technologies, this book allows readers to understand new and sustainable ways to improve the properties of concrete and mortar by utilizing additives.

Book Recycled Aggregate in Concrete

Download or read book Recycled Aggregate in Concrete written by Jorge de Brito and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete is the most used man-made material in the world since its invention. The widespread use of this material has led to continuous developments such as ultra-high strength concrete and self-compacting concrete. Recycled Aggregate in Concrete: Use of Industrial, Construction and Demolition Waste focuses on the recent development which the use of various types of recycled waste materials as aggregate in the production of various types of concrete. By drawing together information and data from various fields and sources, Recycled Aggregate in Concrete: Use of Industrial, Construction and Demolition Waste provides full coverage of this subject. Divided into two parts, a compilation of varied literature data related to the use of various types of industrial waste as aggregates in concrete is followed by a discussion of the use of construction and demolition waste as aggregate in concrete. The properties of the aggregates and their effect on various concrete properties are presented, and the quantitative procedure to estimate the properties of concrete containing construction and demolition waste as aggregates is explained. Current codes and practices developed in various countries to use construction and demolition waste as aggregates in concrete and issues related to the sustainability of cement and concrete production are also discussed. The comprehensive information presented in Recycled Aggregate in Concrete: Use of Industrial, Construction and Demolition Waste will be helpful to graduate students, researchers and concrete technologists. The collected data will also be an essential reference for practicing engineers who face problems concerning the use of these materials in concrete production.

Book The Use of Fly Ash in Highway Construction

Download or read book The Use of Fly Ash in Highway Construction written by Vernon J. Marks and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1982 the Iowa DOT allowed a successful bidder the option of submitting materials and proportions using fly ash to produce a portland cement concrete (PCC) paving mixture to meet a specified compressive strength. The contractor, Irving F. Jensen, received approval for the use of a concrete mixture utilizing 500 lbs. of portland cement and 88 lbs. of fly ash as a replacement of 88 lbs. of portland cement. The PCC mixture was utilized on the Muscatine County US 61 relocation bypass paved as project F-61-4(32)--20-70. A Class "C" fly ash obtained from the Chillicothe electric generating plant approximately 100 miles away was used in the project. This use of fly ash in lieu of portland cement resulted in a cost savings of $64,500 and an energy savings of approximately 16 billion BTU. The compressive strength of this PCC mixture option was very comparable to concrete mixtures produced without the use of fly ash. The pavement has been performing very well. The substitution of fly ash for 15% of the cement has been allowed as a contractor's option since 1984. Due to the cost savings, it has been used in almost all Iowa PCC paving since that time.
