Book Fatigue Crack Growth in Rubber Materials

Download or read book Fatigue Crack Growth in Rubber Materials written by Gert Heinrich and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-23 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book summarizes recent international research and experimental developments regarding fatigue crack growth investigations of rubber materials. It shows the progress in fundamental as well as advanced research of fracture investigation of rubber material under fatigue loading conditions, especially from the experimental point of view. However, some chapters will describe the progress in numerical modeling and physical description of fracture mechanics and cavitation phenomena in rubbers. Initiation and propagation of cracks in rubber materials are dominant phenomena which determine the lifetime of these soft rubber materials and, as a consequence, the lifetime of the corresponding final rubber parts in various fields of application. Recently, these phenomena became of great scientific interest due to the development of new experimental methods, concepts and models. Furthermore, crack phenomena have an extraordinary impact on rubber wear and abrasion of automotive tires; and understanding of crack initiation and growth in rubbers will help to support the growthing number of activities and worldwide efforts of reduction of tire wear losses and abrasion based emissions.

Book Fatigue and Tribological Properties of Plastics and Elastomers

Download or read book Fatigue and Tribological Properties of Plastics and Elastomers written by Laurence W. McKeen and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2009-11-17 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part of a series of core databooks within the William Andrew Plastics Design Library, Fatigue and Tribological Properties of Plastics and Elastomers provides a comprehensive collection of graphical multipoint data and tabular data covering fatigue and tribology. The concept of fatigue is very straightforward: if an object is subjected to a stress or deformation, and it is repeated, the object becomes weaker. This weakening of plastic material is called fatigue. Tribology is the science and technology of surfaces in contact with each other and therefore covers friction, lubrication and wear. The reduction of wear and fatigue and the improvement of lubrication are key bottom-line issues for engineers and scientists involved in the plastics industry and product design with plastics.Fatigue and Tribological Properties of Plastics and Elastomers, Second Edition is an update of all that has changed in the world of plastics since the 1st edition appeared nearly 15 years ago, and has been reorganized from a polymer chemistry point of view. - A hard-working reference tool: part of the daily workflow of engineers and scientists involved in the plastics industry and product design with plastics - The reduction of wear and fatigue and the improvement of lubrication are key bottom-line issues - The data in this book provide engineers with the tools they need to design for low failure rates

Book Fatigue Fracture and Wear Properties of Rubber

Download or read book Fatigue Fracture and Wear Properties of Rubber written by James A. Donovan and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Characterizing the fracture properties of technologically important elastomers (non-linear, non-elastic materials) has been uncertain because of the extensive energy dissipation during deformation. The objective of the research was to evaluate the J-integral concept of fracture as a fracture characterizing parameter and to relate the fracture resistance to crack tip microstructure in carbon black filled natural rubber. Wear rate of rubber, thought to be primarily related to fracture resistance, was studied and correlated by fractal analysis to the wear surface. Fracture was characterized by the J-integral and carbon black increased fracture resistance by increasing strain induced crystallization. The research results as published papers are included. Keywords: Carbon black reinforcement, Fatigue, Fractal analysis, Fracture, J-Integral, Strain induced crystallization, Wear. (kt).

Book The Fatigue Properties of Elastomers

Download or read book The Fatigue Properties of Elastomers written by Amir Tabakovic and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue resistance in filled rubbers is largely dependent on the energy available to propagate a crack, but the influence of the stress concentration is undetermined in elastomeric fatigue. In metals fatigue, a stress concentration is virtually unaltered by cyclic loading. Rubber undergoes large reversible strains and it is argued that rubber components have less severe surface flaws when preloaded than in a stress free state. In fatigue, higher stress levels in the pre-stressed (pre-strained) material are thought to be partially compensated for by improvements in surface finish. It is expected that the size of flaws introduced during the manufacturing process, irrespective of whether the part is made by compression, injection or transfer moulding, can induce early failure of the specimen when it is under load. The fundamental question posed is 'can surface treatments influence fatigue resistance?' Reducing the size of a flaw has the potential to reduce concentration under load and thereby improve resistance. This book describes an investigation of the influence of surface treatments and surface finish on the fatigue properties of EPDM and Natural Rubbers

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rubber components subjected to fluctuating loads often fail due to the nucleation and growth of defects or cracks. This study review the rubber types with their properties and applications, review the analysis approaches that are currently available for predicting fatigue life in rubber. Both crack nucleation and crack growth approaches are considered. A discussion of each approach and applications of these approaches have been applied in engineering analysis are presented. Also review the factors that affect on mechanical fatigue life of rubber components. Four major categories of factors are reviewed here: the effects of mechanical loading history, environmental effects, effects of rubber formulation, and effects due to dissipative aspects of the constitutive response of rubber. The constitutive models are widely used in Finite Element Analysis FEA packages for rubber components are presented; and presented here the applications of FEA to study the fatigue lifetime of rubber.
