Book Fatigue Behaviour of Offshore Structures

Download or read book Fatigue Behaviour of Offshore Structures written by Ashok Gupta and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: and Literature Rev iew Chapter 1 1. INTRODUCTION AND LITERATURE REVIEW The exploration for oil and gas in ever increasing water depths has given an impetus to research efforts on the behaviour of offshore structures under ocean environment. These structures are continuously subjected to environmental loading because of waves, wind and current. A response analysis is required to assess the safety of offshore structure under severe storm conditions as well as for estimation of damage caused by less severe but more frequently occuring sea states. A majority of the reported failures in the life time of offshore structures are in fact fatigue failures. The offshore structures are usually built in the form of welded tubular structures. The joints of these tubular members experience the fatigue damage mainly due to small defects in welding which act as crack initiators, high stress concentrations and the variable loads. The variable loads due to the ocean waves cause cyclic stress variation in the structural members and the accumu lated effect of these stresses results in the fatigue failure.

Book Steel in Marine Structures

Download or read book Steel in Marine Structures written by C. Noordhoek and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1987 with total page 984 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the results of the third phase (1981 - 1987) of a research programme on the in-service behaviour of welded marine structures under fatigue and corrosion fatigue loading. The programme was undertaken in six EEC countries (Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, United Kingdom) in close association with similar work being undertaken in Norway and Canada. In all, more than 40 research laboratories have been involved in an overall collaboration aimed at generating information relevant to the performance of offshore steel structures and fostering a precise degree of common technical understanding that will encourage the increased use of structural steel fabrications for the exploitation of offshore hydrocarbon reserves throughout the world. The programme has already produced tangible benefits for both the steel and oil industries through the contribution it has made to a better understanding of the behaviour of steel structures in marine environments as well as by providing the data necessary for the revision of codes of practice relating to the fabrication of these structures.

Book Monotonic and Ultra Low Cycle Fatigue Behaviour of Pipeline Steels

Download or read book Monotonic and Ultra Low Cycle Fatigue Behaviour of Pipeline Steels written by António Augusto Fernandes and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-15 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the development of innovative computational methodologies for the simulation of steel material fracture under both monotonic and ultra-low-cycle fatigue. The main aspects are summarised as follows: i) Database of small and full-scale testing data covering the X52, X60, X65, X70 and X80 piping steel grades. Monotonic and ULCF tests of pipe components were performed (buckled and dented pipes, elbows and straight pipes). ii) New constitutive models for both monotonic and ULCF loading are proposed. Besides the Barcelona model, alternative approaches are presented such as the combined Bai-Wierzbicki-Ohata-Toyoda model. iii) Developed constitutive models are calibrated and validated using experimentally derived testing data. Guidelines for damage simulation are included. The book could be seen as a comprehensive repository of experimental results and numerical modeling on advanced methods dealing with Ultra Low Cycle Fatigue of Pipelines when subjected to high strain loading conditions.

Book Multiaxial Fatigue

Download or read book Multiaxial Fatigue written by Darrell Socie and published by SAE International. This book was released on 1999-12-15 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides practicing engineers, researchers, and students with a working knowledge of the fatigue design process and models under multiaxial states of stress and strain. Readers are introduced to the important considerations of multiaxial fatigue that differentiate it from uniaxial fatigue.

Book Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics of Offshore Structures

Download or read book Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics of Offshore Structures written by Linus Etube and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Etube (mechanical engineering, University College London) presents novel research and the results of wave-induced stress on the operational life of offshore structures. Using the results of an investigation undertaken to assess the fatigue and fracture performance of steels used in the industry, the five chapters discuss details of the methodology to develop a typical jack-up offshore standard load history (JOSH); factors that influence fatigue resistance of structural steels used in the construction of jack-up structures; methods used to model the relevant factors for inclusion in JOSH, with emphasis on loading and structural response interaction; results and details of experimental variable amplitude corrosion fatigue tests conducted using JOSH; and a novel generalized methodology for fast assessment of offshore structural welded joints.
