Book Fast Track Concrete for Construction Repair

Download or read book Fast Track Concrete for Construction Repair written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under the sponsorship of the New Jersey Department of Transportation a unique concrete mix was developed. This concrete mix attains a significant strength in a period of six to nine hours for use on pavement repair in high-traffic areas. It is not "rapid setting" formulation, but is Portland cement based, relying on chemical admixtures and insulated coverings to attain very high temperature levels, very quickly. The mix, which is designated as "fast track mix", has been shown to be effective in reaching its target compressive and flexural strengths of 3000 and 350 psi, respectively in as little as six hours. Several full-scale demonstration slabs have been completed both in the laboratory and in the field with satisfactory results. The strength gain is primarily dependent on its temperature history, over time

Book Development of Fast track Concrete 2

Download or read book Development of Fast track Concrete 2 written by Farhad Ansari and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The project described herein pertains to the development of very high early strength concrete, herein referred to as fast track concrete, for rapid repair of highway pavements. This project is a sequel to an earlier study. The objective of the former project was to develop the base mix design for the fast track concrete, establish in-place field monitoring procedures, and demonstrate the fast track technology in actual field applications. The scope of the earlier project was limited to a single cement brand and type. The objective of the study presented here was to explore the capability of Portland cement types I and III in achieving fast track properties. In doing so the project involved development of fast track concrete with a number of different cement brands currently used in New Jersey. The concrete developed in this project will be employed in full-depth repair of jointed concrete pavement slabs.

Book Accelerated Rigid Paving Techniques

Download or read book Accelerated Rigid Paving Techniques written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report represents nearly 6 years of collaboration among Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), State, and American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) engineers on the subject of Fastrack Concrete Paving. As an outgrowth of activities begun in 1986 in Storm Lake, Iowa, a Technical Working Group (TWG) assembled under the auspices of the FHWA's Special Project 201. Since the first meeting in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1988, the TWG has cooperated to construct pilot projects, test concrete material with the FHWA's mobile laboratory, sponsor workshops and conferences nationwide, simulate exercises on urban project designs, complete ACPA's Technical Bulletin on Fastrack, and support follow-on research. This report formally completes activities carried out under SP-201. It presents key information on opening-to-traffic criteria and pavement slab temperature management. It includes a summary of key projects built around the country in the last 6 years. It also includes a copy of ACPA's new bulletin and closes with reprints of several technical reports that may be of interest to the reader.

Book High Performance Concretes

Download or read book High Performance Concretes written by Paul Zia and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This state-of-the-art report summarizes the results of an extensive search and review of available literature on the mechanical properties of concrete, with particular reference to high performance concrete for highway applications. Included in the review and discussion are the behavior of plastic concrete as well as the strength and deformation characteristics of hardened concrete. Both short-term and long-term effects are considered. Based on the review of the available information, research needs are identified. It is concluded that much research is needed to develop data on the strength and durability properties of concrete which develops high strength, particularly very early strength.

Book The Fast Track Revolution

Download or read book The Fast Track Revolution written by Jim Grove and published by . This book was released on 198? with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fast track paving is many things to many people - and rightly so. After ten years, the evolution of fast track has taken a revolutionary idea, conceived in a meeting in Iowa in the fall of 1985, and has changed forever how people think with regard to portland cement concrete pavement. Fast track has broken down the time barrier that entrapped concrete pavement construction for decades. Instead of being rejected as the pavement type of choice because of time restrictions, it now, in many cases, can offer advantages of time when compared to the other paving material.

Book Long term Performance of Accelerated Rigid Pavements Project CXMP 13 0006 07

Download or read book Long term Performance of Accelerated Rigid Pavements Project CXMP 13 0006 07 written by Ardani Ahmad and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the post-construction evaluation of the fast track pavement in Sterling, Colorado. The field evaluation consisted of visual inspection, fault measurement, profile measurement and distress survey. A set of falling weight deflectometer (FWD) measurements was also acquired to assess the structural responses and to evaluate load transfer efficiency between the slabs. The results of this study demonstrated that fast track concrete can be as durable as the conventional concrete pavement. After seven years of being in service the pavement has shown no sign of fatigue, only some minor distresses unrelated to fast track techniques.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PREFACE Repair and Rehabilitation of structures is a topic that has gained considerable importance in the past three decades. Building structures for the residential, commercial and infrastructure applications have to be inspected and maintained in order to fulfil the functional purpose of the particular structure. Especially in the case of infrastructure, wherein the capital costs are high, timely repair and rehabilitation is vital to keep the wheels of a country’s logistics chain in good shape. To ensure such tasks are implemented properly, the correct choice of materials and repair methodology along with proper assessment strategies are needed. Repair and Rehabilitation has therefore become a specialized field of expertise based on the wide variety of construction chemicals now available. Target Readership The book covers in full the topics prescribed for the Master’s Degree students of Engineering. However, given the fact that a vast number of building structures require urgent attention to implement proper repair strategies, a wide gamut of the topics are covered to facilitate a single knowledge source for consultants and academics alike. Book Material The Book starts with a short historical perspective on the type and load path of traditional building structures, materials used and a comparison made with the present. Causes, nature and types of deterioration of structures are discussed at length for structural and non -structural elements. Damage assessment methods, both qualitative and quantitative methods are dealt, starting with visual inspection evaluation procedures, data collection for building structures with particular emphasis on earthquake damaged structures. A comprehensive list of materials with their basic physical and chemical characteristics used in construction-chemical admixtures, coatings, non-metallic FRP reinforcements, anchor fasteners and materials for seismic base isolation are listed. Repair methodology is explained in a detailed manner for various types of buildings structures including underwater repair. Case studies of Repair and Restoration of some buildings and Infrastructure projects including Dams including the Takami and Makubetsu Dams in Japan, Morandi Bridge Italy, and prestressed concrete footbridgein Florida, are enumerated to present the practical assessment and repair methodologies adopted. The special topics covered in this book are Structural health monitoring and Demolition techniques, Repair and restoration of Heritage structures with typical case studies such as the leaning Tower of Pisa etc. Lastly, Research topics in this emerging area of repair are suggested.
